@@josephsalmonte4995 "bravery to run away" makes little sense to me, bcs bravery is often described as the act of ignoring/tuning-out/ not being mindful of your fear and its more spontaneous in nature. @@miks8 If you think about it, it is profound. How many people are ashamed of running away from something? It takes courage to be so open and at peace about your fears and shortcomings, to be a human. On the other hand, Magnus was joking.
The Bongcloud that we know and love was not always 1. e4, 2. Ke2. In fact, this opening he played was the second incarnation of the Bongcloud. It was a silly way to switch the place of the king and queen, originally using several king moves. Moving the queen like this added 2 potential checks that would aid in getting the king and queen switched, and Magnus played this opening, calling it the “improved Bongcloud”, for a while before we got the current incarnation.
Agreed with something Magnus said here, I love the Botez sisters, especially Alex. They are very entertaining to watch and I would argue are one of the primary reasons Chess has gained such a large bump in popularity recently, truly. But having a 'move' named after you when it's just blundering a few Queens is a bit much. It's funny, and definitely meme worthy, but definitely more of an unofficial thing for streamer chess.
I mean, did they really do that themselves? Like, blundered few queens and said, "hey chat, now it's called Botez gambit, after us." If that's the case, then I agree, but it feels like the people who are watching the streams are the one who came up with this meme, not the sisters themselves. And then it just kinda spread into the community
My favorite explanation of this opening has got to be Magnus looking at the board and thinking his king and queen are in the wrong position, deciding to spend the next few moves “fixing” it
Two question from someone who doesn't play chess... yet. I know just a few things, but I get confused watching this games sometimes. Why the game ended at 5:31? They realized that it would be a draw? And what is that movement where the player switch position between the king and the tower?
Its not a draw, the white is winning cause those are passed pawns and they are ready to reached the 8th ranked of the board(black side) and be promoted as a queen. The movement that you saw earlier are called castling; its where an unmoved king can switch positions to either of the unmoved rooks. This helps to put the king into a safe position, helps connect the two rooks, and its a move thats the equivalent of two moves
Yet random short videos on channels nobody knows have the stereotype of going viral. The truth is that this video was simply not chosen by the algorithm.
At 2:50, knight F6 check. Black looses its queen or it's checkmate (after pawn take, pawn take check, king move, Queen H6). Weird Magnus didn't see that
I think i found the mate at 3:10 instead of Kc2 he could have just done Nf6+ forking his K and Q then if Black takes with gxf6, then gxf6+, Kh7, Rg5 (if black Nxg5, Qxg5 and he can't prevent mate), Rh8, Qe4+, Kh6, Qf5 and can't prevent mate because (Qd5, Rh5# ; Nxg5, Qxg5+, Kh7, Qh7#)
3:48 he missed a checkmate no? Knight f6 then black pawn takes and then white pawn at g5 takes the black pawn(in the process there is a check by the rock at g1) the black king will move then capture it with the queen for another check.
