Exactly, the original the singing is not as good as this one, its almost like he doesn't know how to sing it. But here his voice just fits the song perfectly.
@@cowboys4life956 its not supposed to be a soulful song. the original ones vocals fit much better because its supposed to be a cool type of song with a cool sounding guy, not a guy whos sounding liek s hes tryig to hhard to be soulful liek this version doesm dont you get that?

This is definitely the better version. You get to hear more of Paul Carracks voice which makes the whole song. Bass and drums are also tighter and there seems to be more emphasis on the “wah-wah’s” in the chorus. Both in whammy pedals and vocals ;)
This version is really special. Paul Carrack had been out of Squeeze for a while and was asked to re-record this for the Reality Bites soundtrack with the other members. Class. Edit: has to had
I'm fairly certain this version is a remix with overdubs so it's Paul's original vocal here. He had re-joined Squeeze 1993 for 'Some Fantastic Place' so strictly speaking hadn't been out of the group for some time when this was done - he may even have still been a member at the time. He did come back to re-record the song for 'Spot The Difference' in 2010.
This version is so much worse than the original. This sounds like a live concert version where the singers always sing the songs differently than on the record. that always seems so pretentious to me. like, i came to this concert to hear the songs i know, not to hear them sung in a completely different way like a drunk guy at karaoke.

Holy crap this version sucks compared to the original. Paul carracks sounds like he’s doing his version of the thing, Christina Aguilera does when she sings.

Ain't wishing I was well
I said it's no occasion
(It's no story I could tell)
At my bedside empty pocket
A foot without a sock
Your body gets much closer
I fumble for the clock
Alarmed by the seduction
I wish that it would stop
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
What's been going on
Now that you have gone
There's no other

A damn crime that this song and When You Come Back To Me by World Party aren't available on Spotify.
It's not often a re-recording improves on the original, but this is brilliant.
No, the original one is much better. This one sounds like it's trying too hard.

not even close. the original one was much better and cooler sounding. this one sounds likea guy whos trying to sound black.
Was looking for this version, glad i found it, tighter bass and so on. awesome.
This is my favorite version of this song. I don't think it's even on Spotify.
It isn’t. I searched Reality Bites Soundtrack on Spotify and it just has the original recording from 1981
i could swear it used to be and then i went looking for it, thought i was losing my mind and had to track it down here! this version is SOOO fire
It’s not Amazon music either
One of the greatest songs in the history of music. Squeeze and Paul Carrrack at their absolute best
That whole soundtrack is solid
Hear, hear!
Paul Carrack has done so many brilliant vocals and songs of his own.😎😍
Love the drums on this mix. The definitive version IMO.
I'm wondering whether it's Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello) who was with them around this time.

Any way to clarify that? Parts of his delivery on this version sound different to me. His inflection of 'fruit', for example

Love this song!! Sounds better over time
I love the beat, the song, the vocals... Just missed the album of the 90s when I had to listen the whole album side to side
I have 2 of his albums. Both are promotional copies. I didn't really know much about him. I almost gave the albums away but I think I will keep them.
