I love how Ann explains reasons it night have failed. This attention to details is the reason why I love this channel.
I find most, if not all of these "cake fails" are failed on purpose so they can get views.
@@markxxx21even if they are, they're still based on mistakes that people make all the time. Having Ann explain them helps more people learn and avoid the mistakes in their own attempts.
@@markxxx21 who cares? people still have this happen to them wether it's real or not. she just showed a fake by accident. ok? good.
@@markxxx21 they are still VERY possible, especially for people without much baking experience
That Thomas cake rescue is just pure genius. Truly snatching victory from the jaws of defeat!
When I figured out where she was going my jaw literally dropped
The moment I saw her making tracks out of liquorice and biscuits my mind was blown. So genius.
That was so crazy to me, like she’s saying there IS no way to fix that. Make it a lawn.
Doing a cake with a toy on top instead of an elaborately shaped and decorated cake is almost universally a better idea. It's a colossal waste of time making a bog standard yellow or chocolate cake and spending two hours doing a bunch of buttercream decorations. 1. Unless you're really good at it, it never looks good. 2. What is the point of pouring three hours into a cake that tastes more or less like a box mix? Spend your time on a nice filling, a better frosting than sugar and butter, a more interesting sponge, etc.
I think it's hilarious when people spend six hours making an elaborate fondant decorated yellow cake with vanilla frosting. You know what I can make in six hours? Opera cake. Something elegant that tastes like it took six hours.
Thats also how cakes should be. Make a simple and tasty base, and then just put the toy on top! Don't serve the kids some artwork made of sugar and dry cake... If your kid likes trucks spend that money on a nice toy truck, Ffs!
3:40 when she’s reassuring the creator of the failed Pepa Pig cake . As a perfectionist who isn’t a real baker, it can be super frustrating when I fail at things like this. I bet the creators of all of these failed cakes felt incredibly discouraged, but Anne is here to remind us that it’s ok if we’re not the most amazing bakers because we have other strengths.
I loved that too. She’s so kind
This ❤
This. Pinterest and Insta don’t show all the practice attempts the decorator had to make before they got some that were photo-worthy. I always forget that, and hearing Ann remind that it takes practice is very encouraging.
Yes that was so sweet even tho I am just watching the video I don’t bake or nothing. Anne just wonderful in every way ❤❤
You also might be an amazing baker, but rubbish at fondant artwork - that's ok: just decorate your cakes with something else instead.
Sometimes parents forget that little kids just love a cake thhat even resembles their faveourite thing!! Doesnt have to be a work of art. That Thomas rescue is the Womens Weekly Kids Birthday Cakes ideas at their finest!
"You've got other skills and other things that you're great at!" Thanks, Ann!
I love that the Thomas rescue could literally be used for practically any cake fail. Grass and candies (flowers, gingerbread scene, toys), color brown and it's dirt, leave white and it's snow and you could add cake pop snowman. Could probably come up with all sorts of scenes.
The emotional footage of the glaze melting off the cake did it for me 😂
The “ think we’re falling dowwwwwwwnn” was hilarious 😂😂😂
That last cake fail was interesting, it'd be fun to see you try other cake designs from books to see if they actually hold together!
"Don't make it, forget it, glue the pages together" 😂😂
‘How To Cook That’ Friday begins
You ask everyone to be kind which is what you are with these cake rescues. You give such practical and caring help and, to someone like me who isn't a real baker, that is so helpful. Thank you Ann. You are the best.
Thanks os much Vickie :)
Remember people, your child is happy to use their imagination and will absolutely NOT see the imperfections. Your not making the cake to impress your friends your doing it to make your child smile. If he/she smiles you've done good. If your friends snigger - be grateful -- as they won't ask you to make theirs. I'm excellent at grass and lakes but it's amazing what a miniature toy and some lollies (sweets/candies) will do 💜
@@bunyipdragon9499excactly, when I was little cakes were never that realistic like they are now, but the pirate ship cake I got was still super cool! Photorealism isn't needed for children
I love this series because it gives people a chance to have a good looking cake for their children's birthday party. But i also love the imperfect look of most of these "cake fails" because it just has a home made look to them, which reminds me of my childhood and my birthday cakes when i was younger. At the end of the day it's all about the love, care and effort that was put into it 🧡
Absolutely agree! 💕
So many failed childhood cakes, but the memories of making them with my mum always reminds me of how much fun it was. They would always melt and look awfull but the process and the taste never failed! Love these vids Ann!
I'm so glad I finally know why so many children's birthday photos from the 80s and 90s had those identical creepy rabbit cakes 😂
How good were the women’s weekly cookbooks!? Mum taught me how to cook and I remember them vividly. Still have them!
I love that book, so glad I still have my mum’s copy
I bought the updated version with ALL the cakes in it. Almost wish I hadn't now 🤣
I was watching when Mum got up and came back with her copy of women’s weekly birthday cake book. I couldn't find any date or edition number, but must be about 30-40 years old. Price was $4.98 [on 'contents' page not cover], and food editor was Ellen Sinclair.
Pretty sure my mum made the figure 8 race track for my 8th birthday.
Pretty much, if it is a Women's Weekly cookbook, you know it's bound to be good. I still trust a Women's Weekly cookbook and collect them! 😁
I love the Cake Rescue series! You're music selection for the recreation of the glaze sadness was delightful!
One of my favorite cakes I ever made was a mix of the Thomas fail and the successful dump truck. My buttercream application was rough, but I made the windows out of white chocolate and filled the back with Swiss rolls. My coworker LOVED it. I was so happy that something that didn't look professional or even objectively that great could put childlike glee in his eyes. I learned to try and do my best and that even when my best isn't 'good enough' it can still be beautiful. Thank you for the reminder, Ann.
Such a good story embee, people love home-made.
I think my favorite part of cake rescue is seeing you try very hard to recreate the fail. Sometimes it is difficult for you.
I hope people are able to take the tips and tricks and put them to use
Shes so talented, she struggles to fail even on purpose 😅
Ann trying to make her frosting sloppy and having it just look fluffy in this video lmao
Rejigging Australian Women's Weekly cakes is a lovely new segment for Cake Rescues, I hope you do more! Maybe the Duck Cake as shown in Bluey?
Seconding the Duck Cake!
Thirding! 😊
DUCK CAKE!
I would love to see Ann make the duck cake, my kids keep asking for it but I know I don’t have the skills to do that 😢
Chip Lips the duck.
I like mixing my coconut and colours in a zip-top bag, shake shake shake! Thanks for the video Ann, its always a pleasure to wake up here (Canada) to one of your videos!
that's a good idea 😀
Shake shake!
I really love that she makes the cake rescues beginners friendly...❤❤😊
I like that too and I love to watch her videos because I learn so much new things I can use in my baking 😊
Right? And emphasis on _friendly,_ the sincere focus being on helping to offer solutions and encouragement, not to shame the "fail" nor mock anyone. Ann is such a wonderfully sweet lady, and so creative and intelligent too. Truly an inspiration!
Ann saying it's okay to not enjoy the creative process AND to know we have other skills we're good at that can be applied to solving a problem is so reassuring!
Having watched many of your cake rescue videos I was equipped to help a friend save hers today. Thank you so much for turning a very normal cake into the 6 million dollar cake (we have the power to rebuild it).
Love the artful use of music as the glaze cake was dripping and melting. Absolutely perfect
The falling down music choice for the glaze fail was just... perfect 👌
You know you learned so much from Ann when the cake fail picture comes up and immediately have a good idea how to make it right 😁
😁
The music/sound beats were comedic perfection today! I couldn't stop giggling through the "we're falling down" bit 😂
Saaaaaaaaaaaaaame 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Woman's Weekly birthday cake book is such a universal childhood experience of being Australian. Isn't the duck cake that was on Bluey (and has now been attempted by parents all over the world) from that book? I know everyone struggles with it. Perhaps you could make that cake Anne!
Duck Cake!!
I want to see Ann make the Duck Cake!
I wondered if maybe this was where the duck cake came from.
I had the duck cake as a kid one year. My brother had the train cake every. Single. Year! Now 35 years later I've made the rabbit cake, teddy bear cake and number 1 cake for my daughter; next she has requested the artist's easel 🥰
I'm pretty sure I comment this on all of them, but I absolutely love the cake rescues, they make me want to bake, they make me feel like it's okay if I make a mistake because it will still be a delicious cake and I can even still make it cute even if it's not what I planned. I love these videos even more than the debunkings.
Everyone - Trying super hard to make the cake look the best.
Ann - Trying hard to fail the cakes to rescue them again.
I love these videossss damn.
I thought for sure you were going to make the duck 🦆 cake from the woman’s weekly book!! It’s been popularized by Bluey so even us Americans know about it 😂 I’d like to see you try Bluey cakes on the future
I love how you are actually rescuing the failed cake rather than just showing off by making a whole new one!
i really love your determination anne, not only do you try to help others, but you also try to recreate the fail to show that it is do-able to create a masterpiece from a failure
5:21 the falling doooown was hilarious
I can't count how many times these rescues have saved my cakes 🤣
Ugh YAY I love cake rescues! When I started watching your channel in 2020 Ann, I never ever baked. Now it is one of my favourite hobbies and I credit much of that to you. Your videos give me the confidence to have a go and the reassurance that when I mess up, it will be ok. Thank you!
That is awesome! Lovely to hear :)
Cake rescue is my absolute favourite type of video on how to cook that, I just love to see how you recreate the fail and manage to make something beautiful out if it, and it helps a lot too, I can avoid making mistakes like the ones in your videos ❤❤❤
Wild to think that a little 8 minute video like this has Ann making, breaking, and remaking multiple cakes. So many days of work. Love the channel, and the support given to amateur bakers who are just trying their best :D
The cake magazine reminded me of one my mom had ages ago that I loved to page through, and we were all the way in Canada. I miss publications like that. In any case, awesome saves Ann - have an awesome day, and I can't wait to see your next episode!
I'm also in Canada and we definitely had a book that if it wasn't identical was incredibly similar... I definitely remember having a castle cake one year (it's shown as she flips through the book, though my dad used flat-bottomed ice cream cones for the turrets and I was at least slightly disappointed by that). I wonder if my parents still have it... my sister and I are in our 40s now and nobody is making us fancy cakes anymore so maybe not lol.
I work in higher education. It's usually stressful. But I always try and take a few minutes in the middle of the day to grab some lunch and throw on a TH-cam in my office. And I am ALWAYS SO EXCITED when I get to watch a cake rescue!
These are my favorite videos on the channel! I binge watch all of them when I'm really upset because of the constant, "It's okay! We can fix it it!" So much positivity. Especially when I was doing COVID-19 sampling and testing during the worst 2 years of the pandemic. I needed to hear that. A lot.
So great to see a new entry! These videos mean a lot to me!
My siblings and I were always treated to shape cakes for our birthdays - trains, bunnies, dolls, number shapes - lots of great memories!
I really love that she makes the cake rescues beginners friendly.... I really love that she makes the cake rescues beginners friendly....
The soundtrack on that glaze cake just made me spit my tea out laughing - savage, Ann; savage!
Please so a woman's weekly cake series! I still love flipping through that book
For my 5th Birthday my sister made me the castle cake and I remember flipping through the pages admiring the different cakes when I was younger so much nostalgia in that book. As always Ann your videos are amazing 😍
I think these cake rescue videos are my favourite. They still give so much joy!
Ann, you are just so wonderful. You remind me that I'm not alone in holding the world to standards of honesty, kindness, and generosity. Thank you.
I so love and miss cake decorating/sweet making videos. I understand the hack debunking etc gets rewarded by the algorithm, but yeah. It was your giant recreation of sweets that originally hooked me
I'm one of the resident bakers at my work (... i work in a dental lab) and i keep getting challenged by people to make different things. One person wanted me to make a chocolate chip cookie cake topped with chocolate chip cookies... topped with chocolate chip cookies. But also at the same time not make it one noted or like it was TOO much cookie. So i came up with a base of a chocolate chip cookie cake, topped with a frosting made with (edible) cookie dough+heavy whipping cream, and then crumbled crunchy chocolate chip cookies on top. It was alot of fun coming up with all the components and now its a favorite at the lab 🎉
The cake rescue for the Thomas Cake was really smart.
You are a real professional at this, Ann.
Thanks so much! 😊
I love the way Ann explains things in these vids. It's like hearing it from a really caring teacher.
That little pause of music while the cake was "falling down" was brilliant! 😅
"That's alright you're good at other things" Guys why am I tearing up right now? This woman must be protected at all cost
What timing, Ann! My 4 year old daughter has been asking for a birthday cake these few days (she's already had her birthday last May but she wants to celebrate others' birthday or wants a birthday cake for the singing and the eating of the cake 😂)
And the music track for the the glaze cake melting haha! I don't know if you have video editor but that was hilarious!
Your 4 year old is a genius!
Australia had the Iconic Cake Book in the 80’s. In the US, in the 60’s, we had the Cut Up Cake Book, which used cut up round cakes to form the different cakes. I loved the pink Ella Elephant cake my mother made for my 9th birthday.
Irish 80s baby here. My mother had that kids bday party cookbook. For our 7th bday each child (and our first cousins-that’s 9 in total) had their pick. My poor mother made 9 cakes from that and similar 80s/90s cookbooks!
Your choice in music with the too hot glaze was SPOT ON! Made me laugh out loud. 😂
We need more of these Cake Rescue Videos. Who else agrees?
I really enjoy watching these videos, especially when you go all the way to try to debunk or prove whether something might be true or not. Leaving a comment for the algorithm :)
I love watching these videos before school
That falling down song just SLAYED me thank you!
This is my favorite! Oh, and the historical. Oh, and the clever or never.
Okay! I like lots of them!
I love that your videos come out in the early morning for me, so I can enjoy it with my morning tea before heading off to work! You did a great job re-doing the dump truck cake! I recently learned about the Australian Women's Weekly when I found a lovely crochet glove pattern that was printed in a 1945 issue, so it was funny seeing it pop up in this video :)
I was looking forward to another cake rescue episode, you never fail to impress me Ann!
I really loved the Thomas cake rescue. It's so realistic and practical. Let's be honest with us, it's nice to for us and the child to have a cute cake, but guys, all the stress! And the 2 yo will still love the cake even if it doesn't look like a Michelangelo piece of art and it's so mich nicer for us to enjoy the time at the party then still being stressed out because of all the unrealistic expectations we put in just a cake. Imperfection is the key especially when baking is just a side hustle from being a parent, partner, employee, family member etc.
I love the cake rescue videos! It takes a lot of creativity to fix something that didn't go the way you wanted instead of just starting over.
Ann Reardon to the cake rescue! Love these videos, you have so much creativity and a great way of seeing past the crumbly mess. Thanks for keeping folks inspired. ❤
Growing up, my mom made most of my & sibling's birthday cakes. I made most of my children's cakes. Neither of us was good at decor and they honestly looked silly. AND the kids loved them! They were always happy to eat the cake. Never did I hear a complaint when I put a piece of cake in front of a child. Ann & her rescues are amazing! BUT if you are not artistic, feel free to bake anyway and serve the results. Everyone will enjoy them!
Yay, these are my favorites! The internet is so full of negative stuff, I love that you take a negative and then show how to repair it!
I love the use of the song with the lyrics "falling down" - comedy gold. ha ha Great vid.
i remember picking cakes from that same book too as a kid
"If that's not you, that's okay, you've got other skills and other things that you're great at" 😭ty Ann
hi ! thanks so much for these videos Ann, i am a... okay baker, but knowing WHY some things work or happen has helped a lot! you are my comfort channel i can watch over and over (i have AuDHD+ocd) so when im upset i just rewatch them, it helps a lot, you are a kind person inside and out ❤️
The sound track "Falling down" during the glazed cake is hilarious....good one!!!
The tragically dripping cake with the sad music playing 😂😂 So emotional 😢
Yay I haven't seen a cake rescue in a while. Glad to see it. ❤
the song with the falling cake is peak perfection
by far my favorite series. I used some of your tricks after one of my own cake fails, and everyone was blown away, especially when I showed them the before picture
the song on the glaze failed cake just broke me i cant stop laughing
I did ur thomas cake. It was my first attemp on doing something with a shape. It took me hours but ur tutorial was great!! I still have a picture of it. I gave it to my friends kid for his birthday :)
These episodes are always my favorite, if you put out an hour long cake rescue episode it still wouldn’t be enough for me 😝😂❤
Yippeeeeeee!!! Another Ann Reardon video, and I am happy!😊❤❤❤ I'm a cakemaker of 50 years experience... high end too, but the one thing that often fails for me is mirror glaze! Your videos are so helpful, and no one is too old to learn! Thank you.😊😊😊❤❤❤
Oh gosh that book brings back some memories, my nan used to have this birthday cake book and I remember her making me the piano cake, the dolly varden cake and the pool cake as a kid ❤
This channel deserves 10 million subscribers
I love experts who can remember a time when they didn't know all they do now. Sadly there are some people who haven't learned how to be kind to their former selves so they can't share that grace with others in their former position. Ann is a great role model in how to share expertise while being kind to those who don't share it.
I love these cake rescues they have simple techniques that inspire me when I make my own cakes. I'm not invested enough to work with fondant etc. but I do love decorating with lollies etc. My most successful to date is an empty tomb cake for Easter that honestly couldn't be simpler to make and used things like the green coconut grass (like this video) but everyone ate it happily and I could share the decorating process with my kids (something that would conflict with the goals of fondant perfection).
Oh man, what a flash back! I'm a 90's kid so I wasn't around when that book was new but I'm pretty sure my Mum held onto one anyway and I distinctly remember getting the Figure 8 cake for one of my birthdays (though fairly sure it was before I was 8).
Not much of a cook or baker myself but your videos are always enjoyable and educational whenever they pop up on my feed.
Yay! TGIF and my favourite series!!
Ann has morphed for a second into Karl Jobst when thanking the patreons.
What an absolute legend!
That said, very interesting video as always!
"We're falling down... it's happening right now..." lmao that killed me, Ann
Oh I missed these I'm so glad there's a new one
A new video in my feed from Ann always means joy!
I appreciate the attention to detail of the character cakes-giving something that will satisfy the child's request but much easier to pull off on short notice or with limited skills.
lol. Solid lateral thinking on the Thomas cake, Anne! My own solution to that problem was to have the kids make the cake as an activity, so they were super happy that they made some thing they could eat. :)
Finally, I've been waiting for a mirror glaze rescue!
Ann Reardon: Cake Hero!
Oh my favourite series is back!! Love from India❤❤
I recognised the pink elephant cake from an old picture of my brothers birthday! (A little before my time). I never knew it was from this, I always thought it was just something my mum made one day 😂 90s kiwi kid here 👋
I love the sad music for the glaze cake fail. I know I have felt like playing tragic music when something isn't working well in the kitchen!
I like how you have all these specific cake videos already up your sleeve, very impressive
