I still remember watching The Ewok Adventure on VHS as a kid for our family "movie night" on a Saturday. We had my grandmother out, got take n' bake pizza from a local mom & pop pizza shop (that was always outstanding), and my mother fixed hot fudge pudding cake (the Betty Crocker recipe) for dessert. God I miss being a kid in the 80s.
A bloke who played an Ewok used to be a local at the pub near me. People get confused when they go in now because the walls are covered with old black and white photos of the pub but inbetween them all is a random colour photo of an Ewok.
I agree, the Ewok movies do have a certain charm. They were aimed squarely at my generation of kids in the 80s. I did think the second one went a little dark, but if you think about it, most Disney movies start with the parents dying right away. The only weird thing canonically speaking is how the Ewoks learn some basic English in these, and then in the time line Return of the Jedi happened, and suddenly Wicket doesn't speak English. In my head-canon, it makes more sense that these movies take place after ROTJ.
My Grandpop rented & recorded these for my cousin and me when we were little in the 80s. Thanks for doing a vid on them, as no one EVER MENTIONS their existence.
I was 13 years old when the first movie was released and I remember enjoying it so much. I did like The Battle for Endor more due to its action and adventure tone. I do agree that killing off Mace was a bit of a shock to me at the time. He really resembled Luke Skywalker too.
The Ewok movies were so awesome. I loved them when I was a kid. The adventures in both films were so fun to watch. I saw them before I ever saw Star Wars.
I absolutely ADORED them, the only thing I hated was them getting me to care about the characters in the first movie and killing them off in the second. Minty's 6th point was why I loved it so much...a story without the main characters was the first time I thought of having adventures in the Star Wars universe without impacting the main story could be much more interesting.
@@dhenderson1810 A lot of that is how saturated it is today. Back then we ate up ANYTHING Star Wars. It took something on the level of the Holiday Special to make people hate and even then there were more than a few that still watched it secretly because there was a not tiny bootleg industry for it.
I was born in 1979 and grew up in the 80’s and 90’s loving Star Wars. However when the original Star Wars movies came out, I both lived in a tiny town without a movie theater, and was just sort of too young at the time to see them. But I grew up watching the trilogy on VHS copies recorded off TV. I definitely remember the Ewok movies though, and watched them when they aired on TV. In a way they were more accessible to me, not being in theaters. I remember the network promoting them pretty heavily, and by the time they aired they seemed like a real event at the time. Being only about 5 and 6 years old when they aired, I even remember some parts scaring me a little. Which seems silly to me today, but when you’re a little kid, and especially a little kid in the 80’s not exposed to as much as kids today, some stuff that was in these films really did unsettle me a little. Today I look back at them and they feel so 80’s to me, whereas the regular Star Wars original trilogy seems timeless, and I don’t think of those films as “80’s”.
Plenty of parts in The Dark Crystal scared me as a kid, that uncanny valley mixed with intentional creepiness really had an impact. Did make me enjoy horror movies, though. It's funny watching horror with people who are effected by it even as adults 😂.
I was also born on '79 and grew up watching movies that made no attempt to not scare the absolute crap out of kids. Going back and watching some of these movies has me shaking my head wondering wtf these filmakers were thinking. Was it sadistic? Were they trying to jar us with shockvalue in order to avoid the expense of good writing? We were the experimental tv generation. We survived the wild west of cinema when movies were devoid of standards or integrity. I don't even think There weren't even ratings til we were like 13.
Born in 70 and remember these movies liked them at the time but haven't seen them since the late 80's early 90's. Still haven't put them on for my kids and the oldest one is almost 30 out my 8 and the youngest 6. I'll put it on for them eventually
SO. VASTLY. UNDERRATED. Frankly, the Ewok movies were my gateway drug to finally watching the original trilogy. No, they're not quite SCI-FI (more "Fantasy"; though BATTLE FOR ENDOR had more sci-fi elements to it), but they're just fun adventure films (definitely some of the best 80s TV qualities as far as special F/X)

This were my favorite Star Wars films growing up. Caravan of Courage had a great fantasy epic with creative looking Ewoks. Battle for Endor had a darker tone with space witches and lizard guys who killed Cyndel's family. Wilfred Brimley was cool. I had the Ewok movie toys.
As a child of the 80s, I grew up not only with the original trilogy on repeat on VHS, but also watching Caravan of Courage whenever it repeated on TV (and I think at one point, we recorded our own VHS copy). I adored CoC, not only because I could picture myself as Cindel on an adventure (similar age), but I also had a crush on Mace. I think I was a teenager before I actually saw Battle for Endor (no idea why). And I was an adult before I realized there was any actual controversy over the two Ewok movies. And you hit it right calling them dark fantasy. As soon as you said that, my mind went straight to Willow, and then you also made the connection at the end of the video. So much nostalgia today, so thanks for this.
I remember when return of the jedi came out and it was an amazing movie, I have it on dvd , a lot of my friends including myself, loved the ewoks the most, I still to this day love how they made the special effects and the talented actors bring it to life! 😊

TWICE UPON A TIME! Thank you, Minty! That movie has haunted my memory since I was a kid and I would try explaining it to people and NOBODY saw it or knew what I was talking about. I didn't remember the title, but thanks to you mentioning it, I instantly looked it up and confirmed that it was my "fever dream" movie that I could never quite remember fully. lol Thank you for that. :-)
I loved Twice Upon a Time back in the day... even though it's been decades since I lat saw it, I can remember quite a bit of it! And I concur with Minty about Battle for Endor being better than the prior Ewok movie. Siân Philips and Carel Struycken? You have my attention.
I loved these movies as a kid. Even back then I questioned how people would actually live in the Star Wars galaxy. While the fantasy elements are strong we got to see people living somewhat normal lives. When space travel is so common it wouldn't be strange for a family in their space-van to hop from one system to the next. I was also surprised to see a Star Wars story that didn't involve the Empire and it was a fun change of pace. From what I remember, a lot of kids at school enjoyed it too and we had fun talking about it after seeing the movie.
I still remember the first time I saw Ewoks: Battle For Endor. I was supposed to be doing homework (UGH!) and my parents and younger sisters were watching Battle For Endor. I got caught sneaking a peek at the movie and got in trouble. Later, I was able to watch the movie and fell in love with it. This was the late 1980s. I must have watched it a thousand times. Yes it's silly and cheesy, but it holds a special place in my heart, and it always will.
I really enjoyed these movies when I was a kid. I was totally in on the Star Wars universe and was super excited to see these. I remember it being a bit of an event at the time.
I still have fond memories of watching "Battle for Endor" at our local cinema back in the 80ies. Had no idea at that time it was originally made for TV. Quite enjoyed it; only disappointment was the lack of space battles.
Loved COC as a child. The GORAX scared the hell out of me too. Wish they would reintroduce the GORAX and have it fighting multiple RANCORS or similar. 👊🏻
Minty this was great! I Never knew who really got me into Star Wars as a little kid, since neither of my parents are fans. I’m pretty sure it was my godfather. But I can remember being home sick as a second grader with the chicken pox, YEARS after the first Ewok movie came out watching it on a recorded VHS over and over. Not sure why I loved it so much, but I did. It was great seeing it again on Disney Plus. I had honestly forgotten all about it up until that point and thought I had imagined it.
I was a BIG fan of both as a kid but Battle for Endor was my number one! Born in ‘79 and always loved Star Wars but being the little sister with 2 older brothers, it felt like these were made just for me. I never knew about the connection to Heidi but it makes total sense now! And I was a big fan of that book as a kid as well. I remember watching the VHS we recorded off TV a million times but I think (as per usual) we missed the first few minutes of it so I didn’t know they killed off the family for years!
When I was little I rented Cavaran of courage from my local video store. I grew up in the 90s and missed when these movies were first introduced. However I remember really enjoying this movie as a kid. Definitely should give it a rewatch when I have time. Thank you for paying tribute to these two films.
I was at the Astor for their Star Wars marathons back in May, and the Caravan of Courage trailer was played in between films. So of course, a couple in their early 20s behind me were scoffing and wondering if it was a real film. I felt like turning around and telling them to get off my lawn.
Was a massive fan of the first 3 releases of Star Wars, but was in College buried in classes and study and projects and totally missed these when they came out. Thanks for this Minty!
Haven’t watched these in decades. Don’t remember them being particularly good. You really should give the modern Star Wars a watch and form your own opinion. All of the shows have good stuff in them, the acolyte in particular.
The alien pirates (marauders) are the same pirates species(marauders) in Solo : A Star wars story movie. Blurggs were in Ewoks first before they were in The Mandalorian series. Might as well have horse/equine species, there were crystal foxes in The last Jedi. Witches and sorcerer's and sorcery in general always complimented the vast array of low and high technology in Star wars. So be it.
I agree with you about the sequel. The little girl's family got killed almost at the start and I thought the bracelets that showed the other's vital signs was strange. Why have something like that? Maybe if she got kidnapped or lost instead of becoming an orphan would have been better, imho. I just thought it was pretty unfair for her after all that she and her brother went thru in the first movie.
My brother and I were both obsessed with "Caravan of Courage" as kids in the 80's, and occassionally still refer to scenes and dialogue when talking with each other. No one else we knew had ever heard of it, though.
I'm so glad you finally mentioned 'Twice Upon A Time'!! SUCH an underrated movie in its own right! (And there's certainly enough material on it to warrant its own video!) But now that I've said my piece, I'm still so glad you highlighted the classic 'Ewok' movies! STILL two of my personal favorites. =)
Love the hoodie, Minty! I still regularly sport a black T-shirt with the old school TMNT logo I picked up in the early 2000s that is still going strong to this day. Much better quality then the crap you get these days that fade out in a year.
Cindel became a journalist/ author in the pre-Disney EU around the time of the Black Fleet Crisis. Maybe this is where the Ewoks got the clothes in Return of the Jedi.
I saw Ewok Adventure : Caravan of Courage on the big screen when it was first released in Australia. None of my friends wanted to see it so I went by myself.
Can’t remember exactly what scared me about the Ewok movies but I remember being an Ewok for Halloween around 86/87 and the costume scared the crap out of my cousin
I remember sometime around mid to late '80s, both movies were on back to back, so I've spent most of my life thinking they were just one big movie, then I found Caravan of Courage and was confused when the credits rolled. George Lucas messed the prequels and original movies up with his insistence on altering and updating practical effects with PS2 - PS3 cutscenes.
Hey, Minty Channel, since you mentioned Robert Englund I remembered that also never mentioned movie starring him & Ted Levine called The Mangler that I think deserves a consideration by you. Thanks much!
The first one is great ! As a kid this movie was amazing… I did buy a bootleg Blu ray of it few years ago the transfer is beautiful … rewatched ! And this movie still amazing!
I have a memory of being very sick as a child. Mid 80's, my mom saw this ad in TV Guide, knowing I was a huge Star Wars fan, thought it would cheer me up. For years, I thought this was a fever dream.
When Ewok Adventures came out, I was so excided as I was a huge Star Wars fan. I even recorded it on a fancy new machine called a VCR that my parents bought. I remember being so disappointed while watching, that I was going to turn it off. But, I didn't. I ended up seeing the tape a few years later, and it kinda grew on me. The tape had degraded since then, but it was still watchable. I made a DVD out of it in the mid 2000s to preserve it. I still have the tape, but have not played it since the DVD conversion. I did see it once on Disney+, but something about the low quality recording charm and the original commercials just made my original recording more interesting.
The first movie that my son sat down and watched all the way through without fidgeting was The Ewok Adventure. He was about 3 at the time. He wouldn't even get up during commercial breaks.
As a big Star Wars fan I remember being so excited as a kid that there was going to be more Star Wars movies. But was so disappointed when I seen them. The only thing Star Wars about them was the Ewoks. I was so gutted that there was no Luke Leia or Han. And to make it worse the Mace character wore a X-wing pilot suit and looked like Luke. Nothing about these movies made any Star Wars sense to my child Star Wars obsessed mind. A lot of fans just wrote these movies off along with the Holiday special. But now all these years later I have found a new appreciation for them mostly due to the absolute garbage that Disney is calling star wars. I was wrong to think the Ewok movies weren't Star Wars. They are very much Star Wars compared to what ever the crap disney has made. As alaway awesome vide Minty keep them coming.
I never knew that the first ewok movie was set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi. I don't recall there being anything to indicate that to the audience.
Not all Star Wars fans hate the spinoffs. I know a lot who actually don't mind Obi Wan The Acolyte Ahsoka and Andor. I grew up int the 80s and loved the OG Star Wars and the Ewok movies. The new ones could be better but I think they're better than The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
I absolutely loved the Ewok movies growing up! I had them on video tape as a kid. Years ago, I scoured the dredges of Amazon until I found both movies on DVD and I bought them! I sat and watched them for the first time in 30+ years and I absolutely loved them all over again! This video you did just made my day!❤

I got caught sneaking a peek at the movie and got in trouble. Later, I was able to watch the movie and fell in love with it. This was the late 1980s. I must have watched it a thousand times. Yes it's silly and cheesy, but it holds a special place in my heart, and it always will.
We had these recorded on a vhs tape when i was growing up, not even sure who recorded them. I used to watch these over and over.
I really enjoyed these movies when I was a kid. I was totally in on the Star Wars universe and was super excited to see these. I remember it being a bit of an event at the time.
Both made with an ingredient that is utterly foreign to the modern Lucasfilm bunch: sincerity.
Also, the Droids' animated theme song? Total bop!
The Droids theme song was by Stewart Copeland, formerly of The Police.
I am a Star Wars fan who just loves that they put out new stuff in that universe. All good on some level to me!
I'm happy i watched these movies on my living room floor all those years ago. It doesn't matter if they were good or bad. Its a happy memory.
@@DoctorTwo Oh dear??
You know you STILL love COC! Can't get enough COC, can ya?
That's why "Oh, dear..."
😂😂😂
@@theelder4797 Not really bro. But the Gorax. Best thing about the entire movie.
❤❤❤ love it, "the screw-up of many" 😂😂😂
Minty this was great!
I remember watching these as a kid and loving it. Having no idea what Star wars was.
I remember loving these movies as a kid, and have watched both recently within the past year and I find they're still very enjoyable
Was a massive fan of the first 3 releases of Star Wars, but was in College buried in classes and study and projects and totally missed these when they came out. Thanks for this Minty!
Minty rockin that TMNT hoodie is great. Respect 🤜🤛
That logo on black background really stands out. 🔥 📛 👩🚒 🚒
IKR! Love me some old school TMNT swag. 😅
You know kids movies back in the 80s and 90s needed to scar children.
Yea , it was horrible seeing her entire family killed off
My brother and I were both obsessed with "Caravan of Courage" as kids in the 80's, and occassionally still refer to scenes and dialogue when talking with each other. No one else we knew had ever heard of it, though.
I love these movies. The first Star Wars movie I remember seeing was The Battle of Endor which I still love and watch on occasion.
Agree with you.
As a kid, I really enjoyed the Ewok cartoon series. But then again, ROTJ is my favorite film in the SW franchise. 🤘
The live action Star Wars shows have too much CGI and don't have that classic Industrial Steampunk aesthetic.
Thanks for always pumping content and having a good dig on cinema Minty, made my morning mate.
I watched these as a kid in the 80s - I recall them being fun. I have to re-watch them tbh. Its bee decades since I watched em.
I’ve never heard of these Ewok movies, until today. I was born in ‘78.
I loved the Ewok movies as a kid. Had them on VHS 📼 & i mist have watched Caravan of Courage 100 times as a kid! 😂
I saw both of these when they originally aired on TV, and I loved them! The cartoons also rock!
I had both movies on tape, loved them. Now I have them on DVD.
Hey, Minty Channel, since you mentioned Robert Englund I remembered that also never mentioned movie starring him & Ted Levine called The Mangler that I think deserves a consideration by you. Thanks much!
I'd had that frickin Ewok "Yub Nub" song stuck in my head since 1985... So thanks a bunch for bringing that up again 😂
The first one is great ! As a kid this movie was amazing… I did buy a bootleg Blu ray of it few years ago the transfer is beautiful … rewatched ! And this movie still amazing!
I used to love this when I was little.
Me and my Sister used to reenact the first Ewok movie with stuffed animals.
I adored these two movies growing up! ❤
George Lucas himself summed up perfectly about Disney's Star Wars: Soulless
Minty your channel is my number one channel ive learn loads watching your content
Moving my sound system and have the Star Wars Ewoks record/story book on my dining room table right now.
the parents just didnt feel like renting a secondary movie, thats why they said " its not as good as the star wars movies".
Insane these movies are less known than the Holiday Special nowadays... spread the love people!
The reason you will never see the "original" versions of Star wars anymore is that lucas' ex wife gets a huge cut.
I did not know that!
(Lucas evidently does not realize that _he_ could rake in more moolah - even after giving Marcia a "cut".)

God I’m so happy whenI find other fans of this. ❤❤❤❤
I loved these movies as a kid! thanks for the video
I flippin’ love those Ewok movies! Ever since they originally aired! The first season of the cartoon too!
They're not perfect, but I like em...
The biggest difference these two have with the newer SW media is that this was done with heart
I loved these movies as a little kid. Very nostalgic
My cousin had these on vhs. I wanted to watch them every time we visited.
I was of that EXACT Robert England bait and switch, and then you did it! Good job!
I never knew that the first ewok movie was set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi. I don't recall there being anything to indicate that to the audience.
As a kid I assumed they took place after Return of the Jedi.
The creature that kidnap the parents in the Caravan adventure gave me nightmares as a child.
Charal - the witch from the second film - is giving Nightsister vibes!
I enjoy all star wars more than the last jedi
Also, a lot of fans enjoyed the spin-off movie "Rogue One".
Love Rogue One!@@dhenderson1810
I absolutely loved the Ewok movies growing up! I had them on video tape as a kid. Years ago, I scoured the dredges of Amazon until I found both movies on DVD and I bought them! I sat and watched them for the first time in 30+ years and I absolutely loved them all over again! This video you did just made my day!❤
Another great video, Minty!!
