Hi doc, I purchased muse for the sake of knowing my brain wave if I've reach theta level .. however the app itself only gave you dB even the mind monitor app . I don't, can you tell us how to know by reading the graph the conversion of dB to Hz?
Thanks for your video! Could you please make a video to explain how to read the EEG graphs on the mind monitor app? I don’t understand why all different brainwaves appear at the same time (specifically on the discrete graph). How do I know when I’m in alpha vs beta for example? Many thanks! 🙌🏻😊
I have a burning question. Muse 2 vs Emotiv Insight I want to use it for beginner neuroscience projects. I'm a neuropsychology student wanting to get into Braintech at some point. The Emotive prepaid plan is way too expensive but i still want the raw data which i realised is possible with this monitoring 3rd party app in Muse. Now, I'm pretty confident that Muse is the overall winner in terms of price. However, the Emotive has BCI which is very interesting. Is there any (cheap) way to implement this with the Muse? It seems like Emotiv has a lot of plug-ins for games, 3D analysis and more. How does the Muse compete with that? All answers are truly appreciated! Thank you
Thanks Cody for this video. Could you please do one where you explain how to actually determine what the dominant frequency is in a sample record? So for example how do i recognise if my brain was in alpha or theta? All i see is that it shows every frequency range and their values in dB. Do i need to do an FFT to see that or is theta even possible to detect with the muse? Thanks a lot :)
Your brain isn't quite in anything. It may have a more dominant frequency, but functions involving one frequency or another still are present. In terms of dB, a signal with a dB of -48 is weaker than one of -24, therefore a frequency of -24 dB is more dominant than that of the -48 dB frequency.
Hi Cody would love if you could do a video about left-right brain symmetry. Also curious Myndlift gives an absolute percentage of brain symmetry in it's report I wonder what its formula is? I want to track this on mind monitor they have a graph that shows left and right but wanted to know how this compare's to Myndlift's calculation.
Have you ever done a video comparing, Muse S versus brain bit? That would really interest me their price point are very disparate-and I’m more interested in which one gives readings with greater accuracy; so I can really document my brain State presently before endeavoring down a path of intensive study of meditation!
Thank you, I find your work fantastic and I have just subscribed now even if I looked before without ... But, I was wondering if we can now have applications that give us the evolution of attention. For example, what could be put in place to track our attention when we work, and if so which ones would you recommend for young adults?
Hello Franck, that is something people are working on. Mendi will be coming out with an app update next month that will be great for this. FocusCalm is doing some ground breaking work as well. Those two companies are more attention based than Muse at the moment. Hope that helps.
@Cody Rall MD with Techforpsych what about accuracy? also I am only interested in being able to read and visualise raw wave data. Is the muse the best option for this use case?
Thanks, I think you will find the video I am putting out tomorrow with Holly Copeland to be interesting. She does a lot with these graphs. Be sure to check out her Facebook group. facebook.com/groups/468088840497387/
Nice video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Schallingora Success Key Scheme (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for creating health minus the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got cool success with it.
Would love to understand how to interpret the DB display for the Alpha waves to separate Alpha1 8-10Hz from Alpha2 10-12Hz. Should be easy to do with this app but I can’t figure it out. Please help!
Hello! so... it´s a mind blowing fact that I can see my brain scan at my home with my muse headband but I´ve been diagnosed with ADHD and I really want to know how can I use this EEG mapping while reading/studying so I can train my focus beside meditation purposes. I looked for myndlift app and found that they have no space for helping people out there :( I wish i could help myself but I don´t know how to do it. Yes, I read about gamma waves for focus but... how? Wish somebody could help this sad and unfocused girl (:
sounds like youre on the right track either way, nothing wrong with feeling sad or unfocused either, learning how to relax and focus in alpha may help you more than you think. keep meditating!
Yep keep meditating with Muse. I will be doing Myndlift group programs this Fall so hopefully we can get you in that way! Stay tuned for an update video this week :)
Cool video. I guess I am a little late to the party though. I have a background in software dev and have 700k muse points... the thing that needs to happen is pattern recognition to move you into a different brain space. The calm is fine but how about happy? Or energized? Or powerful?
Would you suggest Muse or Muse 2 for an entry level device? Based on amazon reviews, the Muse 2 seems like it either has bugs or is too complicated for most users. Thanks!
Yeah Muse 1 for now if you want to just get introduced to EEG. Although the company has been very responsive to fixing complaints regarding individual Muse 2 bugs
Hi, Cody, Can you inform me the preferable devices to run mind monitoring application as I need it to do research of analyzing brainwave at different sleep stages.? It runs better on windows devices or iOS devices? And, can it run well on Macbook Air? Thanks
It will run great on MacBook Air. Just get the Mind Monitor app with Muse S. Might need a good amount of storage capacity for all-night recordings but a 1-TB external hard-drive would be plenty.
Hi. I'm using Muse monitor on my iPadPro for a while. I've noticed that there is no point use the device which shows all 5 diapasons of the frequencies. Correct me if I'm wrong but my Muse2 shows that my brain emits all 5 diapasons even during awaking, sleeping, meditating and running. Whats the point of these data and how to trace the affect of all meditative technical impacts ? To be honest in current condition looks like a toy which simply shows all the frequencies at once. Again maybe I'm wrong but the idea of this tool supposed to help to tune your brain into specific frequency.
I can't find muse monitor or mind monitor on my mac app store :/ I found on my iPhone app store and purchased for $15 but need to connect to computer. Can anyone help?
@@CodyRallMDHai, thank you for your reply. I just bought it and use its sleep tracking menu for 12 days. Can you refer me to one of your videos that can give clue of how to do it?
Is there any affordable Mac software that works with Muse to do specific neurofeedback protocols (e.g., Alpha Synchrony)? The issue I have with the default muse app is that the style of feedback and the specifics of the actual protocol are vague. This study showed that the muse EEG neurofeedback (i.e., nature sounds) did not aid short-term stress reduction compared to unassisted relaxation. Yes the new QEEG feature does that. I'll be doing a deeper dive on that this Spring when I get the Brain Circuit Training program running full time.

You can try different techniques and see how the frequencies respond :). For neurofeedback use the Muse app or take a look at Myndlift
They disabled third party app development...
Yeah they are taking a look at revamping it in the future

What use cases are there for the data? What are people using it for?
I would look into Dr. Krigolson's work. th-cam.com/video/AaJpk2w4JBc/w-d-xo.html
accessing alpha state with more ease, identifying/troubleshooting ability to go into different states i what I am looking into it for
Seems to have a lot of issues with pairing with the muse s, just won't do it, even when main app is closed. Such a shame they disabled the SDK
I think the latest firmware update disabled using this app too

Has it been renamed now to - Mind Monitor?
Yep, looks like it

Yes definitely
Is this app compatible with Muse s?
Yes it is!
That's not on Google play anymore....
Good to know

Did they change the app name into “mind monitor”?
Yes
Can you see what brainwaves you are in on the normal app.
No, use mind monitor for that
Is it compatible to the Dreem2 headband? If not could they add it plzz, would be awesome
I will be reviewing Dreem2 soon
I dont see this App in Android playstore ?
Is there any method get real-time data in mac?
From what I can see, you can only do real-time with the app on iOS devices currently...

Aw I can't find it on the app store!!
I think it's been renamed to Mind Monitor
hi is there anyway to use the muse monitor to give real-time feedback on focus?
I'm not sure. It mostly just records the session. No feedback options.
Is there a link?
No.
It's pretty dangerous putting your brainwaves all over the internet
How so?
It is called mind monitor
You should've mentioned that this is 15 pounds.
My bad
fact: more people use windows than mac - windows equivalent?
if two people have the same brain wave are they thinking the same thing?
No
Because it depends on structure as well
