It fetches that much money because it is a mint example of a bygone era! Mint ones of these are rarer than most supercars of today! It’s not about the performance but more about what the car is and what it stands for! For the people that can afford this car, it isn’t about the price! It’s only about having it to look at! This car is a beast in any collection!
I had a very dear freind called Gary Hooper who had a wonderful collection of RS500 cosworths around 9 of them if a recall I was very lucky to be able to see them as well as actually have a little drive in his moonstone blue RS500 which the registration was GAF ??? if im.right. Anyway he took me to see a fella called Duncan pursell of Automotive Unlimited who sold the most immaculate cosworths and im going back now must be 20yrs or more?? Anyway he had a Black RS500 54.000 miles up for £18.500 yes £18.500 and Gary told me to buy it saying in years to come these are gonna be worth a fortune has Gary was also buying up RS500 spares etc. Cut a long story short i didn't buy it as the insurance was £1000,s but Garys words have come true. Still at least i got to drive his RS500 and spend many times with him at many a car show and at his factory where he stored his RS500,s Sadly Gary and his lovely wife Pam have both passed away and hes probably looking down now saying to me .. Told ya so you idiot you wouldnt listen you should of bought it 🤣 Yep you right i should of .. Miss ya mate RIP 💕
Duncan Purcell only sold the best - he knew his way round every Cosworth. A modest and honest individual. I bought a late 4x4 sapphire of him in 96 - perfect gentleman and I hope all is well with him now.
I remember when I was there he had the ebony black Sappbire Cosworth L20 COS it was up for.£11.500 which at the time was serious money when most saffys where trading atound the £5K to £6kmark. I heard later that the car was written off in an accident (if.thats true such a shame)
I’m a motorcycle man and a great believer in using classics out on the road so everyone gets to enjoy seeing them rather than hiding them away in collections. But when it comes to time warp examples like this I think they should be preserved.
It really is a beautiful example and the RS500 has been the car i have loved from the second i seen the first one walking to primary school . I remember the disappointment trying to find the same car as a toy in Woolworths , found the car the colour but couldn't find that spoiler and had to settle for the Xr4i . I had already fallen in love without having a clue what the experience in one was like . Hooked for life !!! . It is a shame that nobody will ever get that full experience again from the time when you could drive a Cosworth in the way that made the Cosworth the legend it is . I am so glad that the 20 or so years of Cosworths prime was the perfect timing for me to have many different Cosworths and be part of the best era to love cars . Pushing the limits of engine modifications and experiencing big boosts on green or grey injectors if memory serves me right . brought many £2000 Cosworths years ago and even had a Moonstone RS500 #494 . Was cover car on Fast Ford last year . But i know it was way more fun driving it 20yrs ago than I could have if i still had it now . Just glad I was there :)
The car model has a legendary racing pedigree and history, built up by the legendary cosworth, is extremely rare, is beautiful, and is worth every penny. I am not a collector and would prefer to buy a driver, but that car is about as good as it gets for RS500's. Kudos to whoever purchases it.
Immaculate Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 on offer with Silverstone Auctions Silverstone Auctions will offer this immaculate 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 with just 5,192 miles for sale at £150,000 - £180,000 in the hope and belief that it could well break the previous record which stands at £135,700 achieved at a Silverstone sale last year.
Only ever seen one moonstone blue one locally to me many moons ago…… gorgeous car and it eventually vanished. He’s now driving an r8 with the reg that was on the rs500
Would you really buy a 40 year old Sierra when there are so many better modern cars that make the RS500 look positively slow? I love the Cossies, and enjoy watching Adam do his ones up, but I would never buy one now - so many better cars out there for that price, IMHO.
Well done you you made it to today biggest pair of pricks in the comments 😂😂😂😂 do you get paid to write that bollocks you obviously know nothing about about fords
They say never meet your heroes. I could never afford an rs turbo when I was younger and when I finally could afford one and made the purchase I regretted it. Yes these classics are iconic, but most of them drive like shite and they are nowhere near as fast as you imagined as a kid
Yes, 1980s underpowered by today's standard, rattly, smelly unusable sierra, tell you what, il buy it and keep it in a heated garage for the next owner.... These were meant to be used, if the car will outlive you - what's the point, USE THEM
A mate of mine bought a black RS500 in December 2022, just under 14k miles, paid £124,500. Was thinking of selling, so sent it down to iconic last month but changed his mind and decided to keep it. Moonstone was always my favourite colour.

Ridiculous price for a 40 odd year old Sierra, but good luck to him. I know its not nice to deal with negative remarks, but you have to admit that you have had to be expecting them - its par for a course when you're trying to sell a Sierra for a quarter of a million pounds, nice as though it is.

Know guy who has a new rs500. At least I think he still has it. Not seen him in while. He did say he was never gonna sell it. Original owner with 3 delivery miles on it. Bought it and stored it.
Ex Mrs parents had a neighbour who owned one in moonstone back in the 90s. It was absolutely mint and original. Used to get it out on a Sunday to turn the engine over. Ended up selling it for a Honda fireblade. I'm pretty sure that man will have massive regret.
Up to £100k i can understand it if you have a really good memory point for them but a quarter of a million quid we’re talking McLaren money..i know what id prefer..saying that cars had character back in the day lovely thing 👍👌
Ceiling must be reached by now as lads of age when these were the cars to have are now in retirement and cashing in. Case in point by these two. That said, if I could I would. Stunning examples and looked after by the best professional and enthusiast.
Tell me, just as an observer, I don't own one, why is this £265k but one went last year at auction for nearly £600k, both mileages in the same ball park?
Adam nice to see u at Paul's doing a video I live in Dorset there is place called corfe mullen and there some bloke up there has got all ford every time a new ford came out mainly rs models from going back to the escorts I bet bet he's got cossie or two they have no miles no one nose where he live does paul
I'd love to know Paul's opinion on if he thinks the 5 pot Focus ST and RS in years to come will follow suit in the performance Ford market with hindsight of how it is today with all these old Ford classics.
This is the car Paul and Adam are referring to that was advertised for £350,000. Our car, now sold. th-cam.com/video/DXUzes-6f7A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-osSUtIYIjcnUI2A
Hi Paul I spotted the Rouse Sport Sapphire Sierra in the background is that a 302 or 304 version? When I worked for Weber UK back in the early 90’s we helped Andy Rouse out with the mapping on the Weber ECU’s for these limited edition cars if I remember correctly they were the P8 ecu variants love the Moonstone 500 3 door I would buy it if I won the lottery all the best Les👍👍👍👍
Sierra cosworth! Yeah, I remember a guy i worked with probably 20ish or so years ago in a sausage factory it was his day,le driver!! Cost him loads of cash to buy & run back then!! Same blue as well 😮
To put thing/prices into perspective. A Ferrari 250 GTO was new $18000/equivalent to 17000 Euros. In November last year, a 250 GTO was sold at RM auctions for around 48 million Euros!!! A car is worth the amount of money the buyer is willing to pay, end of!
They are still a thing. I was offered a genuine rs500 for 11k in 97 I was 18 years of age and wished I had 11k for it back then. That one was on a E plate, black, had rally work done on the engin and had two engine rebuilds, the guy drove it hard all the time 😅😅 he definitely enjoyed it.
a guy i knew that owned a breaker's yard took a 1.6 3 door and made it look like one of these and he was the envy of every single hot hatch owner for miles around. I wonder how many reps there still are out there....
1 owner on the logbook but it’s been owned by more than that. The moonstone car was part of the “rs bonkers” collection so has definitely been owned by more than 1 person as I remember him buying it and selling it
I wouldn't mind the price tag so much if they didn't drive like a bag of 5hit. Better of with an ST, Buy land If you want to invest! You can't make land.
Agree, I’ve had all of them and the thought of a standard one makes me cringe, they need stage 3+ some to make interesting, my sapphire cosworth drove far far nicer than my 3 door with lower miles.
750 mile from new. Jeekers That's why they can demand the huge price tag. Were else will you find one as most are horsed.. As the interior sagged the seats headliner door cards etc. Right buyer will put this in a heated vac shell
My favourite colour all day long absolutely stunning example, got me thinking of the cars you can buy for that kind of money though or multiple cars that will hold value and increase and drive.
Start early with diversified investments in stocks, bonds, and real estate. Maximize contributions to tax-advantaged accounts like 401(k)s and IRAs. Regularly review and adjust your strategy to ensure security
From $37K to $45K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.
Sounds interesting. I was planning to invest some few £ in some coins, stack them up and leave them for a few years, but seeing this changed my mindset. Thank you very much
Wonder what else is knackered? A garage queen like that has probably got knackered rubbers all over the place? I LOVE Ford (I've owned and still own Ford's from the day I passed & I'm 50 now) but that amount of money for something that sadly just doesn't cut it against modern cars?
I remember not that many years ago, pistonheads did an article on a mint low mile moonstone 500 for sale for 60k. The comments were predictable with the usual claptrap like my 330d bmw is faster. it's a crap old ford blah blah. I chimed in, saying these are ultra rare cars with real motorsport pedigree and would soon be 100k plus... people mocked me, calling me a fanboy etc...
Wow, that's like going back to 1987, fresh out the showroom. I'll never own one, especially at that price, but I'd have it in a heartbeat, but then becomes unusable to drive, still amazing though😮
I hope you still have your car mate gutted your selling it as it deserves to be in your hands you've had it so long and is part of you mate if I had the money I'd buy it just for you to have it as I've watched your channel for sometime now and you deserve it fingers crossed you keep it and it stays in your hands and also keep up gd work I believe in karma and all will work out 👍
Absolute peach of a car it’s the best looking rs produced by Ford closely followed by the escort rs1600i imo. If I’d the money I would have this. Glwts.
Watched two seconds and don't care about the rest - it's a FORD SIERRA not a house, don't care how many miles or owners or condition, whoever buys it needs their head looking at Edit: from an RSOC member with two cossies owned for over 20yrs
I don’t believe for one second you owned 2 Sierra Cosworths yourself , I am around the Ford scene, NOBODY would say IT’S A FORD SIERRA after owning TWO themselves. 😂
It will sell quickly, some pathetic comments in here tbh. Some people simply dont know what there are talking about. If Paul says its a minter then its a minter. Bonkers collection just adds to the provenance as that bloke had nothing but the very best. Hope it sells quickly just to shut the plonkers up!
amazing the RS marque gets so much attention these days , I do wonder if it is a trend though and in another 10 years it'll be another marque and the value drops. obviously I know cock all about classic trends and have never owned a thing that's appreciated other than a house. although I did own a mk1 lotus twin cam but sold it for pretty much what I paid and still missed the signs saying hold onto it. but a shame they are so unaffordable as the RS scene as far as clubs go is very good and almost all RS s are so nostalgic. trying to think of an RS that is undesirable ? is there one?
Absolutely wild price it's nice to see low miles but those cars were meant to be driven sad that most will never get their hands on one to experience it at supercar money
If it only has 1 owner did Mark from Bonkers collection not register it in his name ??? Paul said "Mark only bought the best of the best" so its 2 owners right ???
Great car Great asking price Their is a black rs500 1 owner Totally OEM Parked up in a garage in the midlands area , and untouched for Last 35yrs Owner parked it up after having a flat tyre, a few weeks after buying it and it ain't been driven since
Not worth the price seems a popular comment here, however this is a rare car and if it sells or not it sets a precedent, I’m not suggesting that’s right or wrong it’s just how the market goes, if the seller is a dreamer how much is it worth, how much money do you have to offer, how much is your one you have for sale or where is your link to one that can be bought significantly cheaper? Or are you perhaps dreaming?….
Dream on , this car was good in in its day. You could not drive this car in London with ULEZ. Petrol for the engine is difficult to obtain. The weather in Northern Europe will rot this car quicker than a French cheese. Performance with 224 bhp. Road tax £345.00 today. Modern hatchbacks would keep up with this car. This car will end up in a museum. Totally impractical in 2024.
I’m sorry everyone is jumping on the bandwagon since the black one went for £525k, £75k auction fee, on the day 2 people wanted to buy it, auction said on the day £150k but may reach £180k but £600k, don’t get me wrong if i was a multi millionaire I would of gone to £1M because it’s my all time favourite car, this one is beautiful better than the £350k just sold, in 2013 i got a black 1 owner (rockstar) 8k miles for £55k 😭 I’m sure the same car is here in this garage of paul linfoot

The car that sold for 600k had a middle Eastern Prince bidding and someone with to much money bidding so the price went stupidly high
@@hillbillymal9351and that car now resides in the Middle East never to turn a wheel and been seen again. I know that for a fact
@@revveduprides5125 l believe you
First Sierra Cosworth I ever saw in a dealer showroom was in Moonstone. It was a 1986 'D' registration & the price was around about £17,000.
Exactly what they are worth now with the amount of horsepower and car you can buy
Could you give a tour on that toolbox, bet thers a few quid there
Adam nice to see u at Paul's doing a video I live in Dorset there is place called corfe mullen and there some bloke up there has got all ford every time a new ford came out mainly rs models from going back to the escorts I bet bet he's got cossie or two they have no miles no one nose where he live does paul
RSC271 was the registration number of my 1959 triumph. That would be nice on a rs500 , especially the 271st one of the line .

304 as its a 4x4
What a car absolutely beautiful
I got offered a black one once for £500 and it had an original cosworth kit on it with the 500 lower spoiler. that was about 1999 - 2001 ish !!!
Wow guys what a fantastic car and video hope you still got your both car's mate 👍
1 owner on the logbook but it’s been owned by more than that. The moonstone car was part of the “rs bonkers” collection so has definitely been owned by more than 1 person as I remember him buying it and selling it
I wonder what the limit with these will hit? If it ever does hit a limit... Amazing car, thanks for the video.
That’s good money in that condition, cheers chaps 👍😉💪
Lovely car, just need to win the lottery first.
We definitely need a walk round of that massive tool box. Probably cost the same as the car 😂
grear video adam , lovely car 😍
I feel like this is artificially inflating the market, these cars shouldn’t be asking this kind of money
Jeekers
That's why they can demand the huge price tag.
Were else will you find one as most are horsed.. As the interior sagged the seats headliner door cards etc.
Right buyer will put this in a heated vac shell
He said mark owed it and sold it then isn't that two previous owners
Yes it is, this guy is the third owner.
I thought this
Car dealers get to lie n act like they didnt own it. Its standard practice
That was my exact comment before reading yours !!!
So is it 1 owner 2 traders that never actually had it in their names?
My favourite colour all day long absolutely stunning example, got me thinking of the cars you can buy for that kind of money though or multiple cars that will hold value and increase and drive.
Moonstone all the way, my 1990 Saph 4x4 looked gorgeous back in the day.

Celebrating a $30k stock portfolio today from a $6k start. Investing wisely has given me time for family and future plans.
Thank you very much
A beautiful Sierra RS500. It takes me back to my youth to see such a car. They were unattainable then as they are now.
All that money and the tailgate struts are knackered! Surely they’re available to change them!
Would love to see all them old motorcross bikes he has looks like a lot of old 80,s honda cr 500,s there❤
Adam and Paul have done a couple of videos of them. Sure Paul’s recently sold a few to buy something else
Sierra XR8, 5L V8, Windsor, change the spark plugs yourself, over 200bhp, no wait for the factory mechanic, tune it up as much as you want
I hope you still have your car mate gutted your selling it as it deserves to be in your hands you've had it so long and is part of you mate if I had the money I'd buy it just for you to have it as I've watched your channel for sometime now and you deserve it fingers crossed you keep it and it stays in your hands and also keep up gd work I believe in karma and all will work out 👍
We followed Colin McRae's mum driving a moonstone blue RS500 chase car in the 1988 Scottish International Rally. I wonder if that car still exists?
Went to a local car show near me and seen RS500 (E300RAT) at the weekend was plated as 456 out of 500
Absolute peach of a car it’s the best looking rs produced by Ford closely followed by the escort rs1600i imo. If I’d the money I would have this. Glwts.
Wow yet another stunning 500. Is the story of the missing 500 ( never registered) true or myth.??
Out of the 500 how many are left on the road now
Superb vehicle. It's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
cheers adam,be nice to see some nice normal 3 doors, hope all ok?
nearly as much as Pauls mega roller cabs ❤️😍
Did you sell your 3 door mate?
Crazy money, so it's for the enthusiast only. Personally, a late 4x4 with a/c would do me.
Asking price is not sale price though 👍
Watched two seconds and don't care about the rest - it's a FORD SIERRA not a house, don't care how many miles or owners or condition, whoever buys it needs their head looking at
Edit: from an RSOC member with two cossies owned for over 20yrs
Jealousy can make some people say sarcastic rubbish....
I don’t believe for one second you owned 2 Sierra Cosworths yourself , I am around the Ford scene, NOBODY would say IT’S A FORD SIERRA after owning TWO themselves. 😂
Sound a bit bitter pal ? Yours rot away did they or you just not get anywhere near what they are worth now?
@@leechampion6538 come to the rs owners club show at Cotswold wildlife park on the 30th of June and you can sit in my car 👍
@@stuartrobson4891 I'm bitter but you hope my cars rotted away or not worth anything - I'm not in it for the money - pal
Got lots of all model cosworth parts !!!!
Possibly the RS1800 fiesta but they still sell for decent money.
Absolutely wild price it's nice to see low miles but those cars were meant to be driven sad that most will never get their hands on one to experience it at supercar money
When is Paul gonna do a toolbox tour?
If it only has 1 owner did Mark from Bonkers collection not register it in his name ???
Paul said "Mark only bought the best of the best" so its 2 owners right ???
Special !! You know what it’s worth it.
so the purchaser/next owner would be the third?
Thanks again chaps
That tool box!! 😮 😊
Nice cars but its still only a sierra ....price is nuts
He must be on the sniff
350kish for similar a few weeks back
If i was paul though i wouldnt mind it selling for 265k. I inagine its a nice little eRner even 1% for chucking a shammy over it.
Only nuts if you can’t afford it
Stupid people pay stupid prices... the celica ST205 GT4 is a much better car and alot more rare.
Great car
Great asking price
Their is a black rs500 1 owner
Totally OEM
Parked up in a garage in the midlands area , and untouched for Last 35yrs
Owner parked it up after having a flat tyre, a few weeks after buying it and it ain't been driven since
You...and Paul....great item 😊
Seeing these growing up were like concorde moments for me
Not worth the price seems a popular comment here, however this is a rare car and if it sells or not it sets a precedent, I’m not suggesting that’s right or wrong it’s just how the market goes, if the seller is a dreamer how much is it worth, how much money do you have to offer, how much is your one you have for sale or where is your link to one that can be bought significantly cheaper? Or are you perhaps dreaming?….
I can’t get my head round why PL sold Adam such a dog of an Escort cosworth, why does that rs500 have boot lid struts that are knackered ?
