'Sunday Drivers'. They are the breed that are not particularly bad drivers but they are SLOW drivers. Taking the family out for a drive at the weekend involved no speeding, wrong lane, pushing in or mini roundabouts but motoring at the speed of a tortoise - or slower - was the desired forward projection. My dad was one for a 'leisurely trip around the countryside' before returning home for a vast Sunday roast dinner.

A30 going by the grille and lack of indicators - you can't see the rear window which would confirm it. Produced 1952 to 1956. The A35 took over and was produced to 1968 which surprised me.

Might actually be an A30 which had trafficators, this one doesn’t appear to have the orange indicators between the headlights and bumper, difficult to see the rear window which would clinch it as an A35 though. The earlier A30 had a much smaller almost crescent shaped window and no flashers, the later A35 also had a much wider, lozenge shape semi-wrap around rear window.

@@melissanewton7462 The majority of roads in Devon are the same, as per the original post its pretty common to have both wing mirrors touching the hedges in even a relatively small car, many of the A roads are like the roads at the beginning at 1.25minutes and a 60mph limit so long as everyone stays tight to the hedge its normally alright, meeting a 40 tonne truck involves rubbing the hedge, locals just get on with it. Its now getting into tourist season so we can expect to see camper vans and caravans having to be dragged out of some place and a good collection of wing mirrors on the road from drivers who have no idea how wide their vehicle is. Some people have no idea how to reverse either so often it is quicker to reverse 150m than expect someone else often a tourist to reverse 5m.

I’ve spent years as a delivery driver on roads like this and the one thing that annoys me is when you get to a passing bay and you are the first one there it doesn’t matter what side of the road it is on go in it. Just because it’s on your right doesn’t mean you wait in the middle of the road for the oncoming vehicle to meet you and they pull into it. The first vehicle there pulls in that means the approaching car doesn’t have to slow down and both of you are on your way quicker.

then I came back to france and noticed two things ; the roads are far wider, apart from in little medieval villages, and driving standards are awful.

Spare a thought for the gritter drivers, some of the roads are so small that the mirrors are hitting hedgerows both sides of the road and these can go for miles.
You're 100% correct, it's only a few drivers that should never go on these roads.

I have seen so many cars towing trailers/caravans where the lighting is all cocked up, does no one ever do the mandatory light check before towing, The wiring for said trailers/caravans is and has been industry standard for many years now, and in most modern cars they have a block connector for the wiring harness, how hard is it to follow simple instructions for wiring up a tow hitch electrics ? and there are even tools to plug in and assist you in making sure they are correct before you tow. PS also some HGV's have trailer light issues too

The trailer with the connector cable the wrong way around in Vol 342 can be a hazard waiting to happen, never let them know your next move!
On a serious note, on my car and trailer it is also really easy to put the cable in wrong way. Which is why I always do a quick check before driving off. In denmark we drive on the right side of the road, so before pulling off i would turn on my right indicator, step out of my car, then check if the right indicator is working on both the car and the trailer, to see if they are in sync.
I do this as a matter of principle, just to make sure i drive responsible and safely.

I think those pinch points at the beginning are traffic calming measures to slow down the traffic to ensure it keeps the the 20 mph limit. But I guess that it did anything but calm you down!!! It's not only creating traffic that is annoying, but it is the slowing down and then speeding up and it is this that causes pollution. 20 mph in populated areas is a good idea as you are more likely to go at an even speed and hence create less pollution that is limit is 30 and you keep going from 30 to 10 and then back to 30 again.

Just realized what Audi stands for:
    Absent
    Utilisation
    Derelict
    Indicators

It also stands for a lot of other tiresome. dated, and irrelevant cliches which are now well beyond their shelf life.

You are really lucky you didnt encounter a berk in a Merc on those narrow country lanes; I did many years ago.
The road was single width for 500+ metres, with one pull-in 100m in from my direction; then it opened out into 2 full sized lanes for another 100m before meeting an A road.
I was well past the pull-in when the berk pulled off of the main road, drove along the two lane section - drove ONE FUCKING CAR LENGTH into the single width lane, then started tooting at me to back up; as by that point I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting her.
So I applied the hand brake, switched off the engine and picked up the paperback I always keep in the car.
It took her a good 10 minutes of tooting and screaming at me, but she did eventually back up and let me through.

I live in the country side , Most of the 4x4s don't or won't move over, they don't want to get their tyres muddy ❤..

rangerovers only ones i really had issues with as you not expect it, you ready for vw,Audi, bmw and merc so they become a non issue. one week after passing my test on country road, a narrow straight bit i waited to allow cars to clear then went when safe 3/4 through a range come charging through moves more center road and gains speed i was run off the road as week driving i did not want a head on so i avoided with bit off road lucky no damage, 2nd range years later in 20 zone going around line parked cars i had loads time range over must been half mile he put his foot down in his v8 range and aims at me crossing the center line he must been doing 90mph when he reached me so yes i did put my foot down when i seen the prick trying to kill me easy up to 40 in 2nd i only just clear the car leaving set 11 on the road as he cased me to do emergency stop with inches clearance and no abs,esp it was dam close i almost gave chase but instead i made a choose 3rd will be a dead range-rover no matter situation so if you drive range and reading this you been warned i will not avoid i make sure im stopped as drive a correct speed then it all on them. stood my ground a lot since these cases and more so called posh less helpful i be

27:06 Isn't this more like this is why you don't change more than one lane at a time. Isn't it ok to drive the speed limit on the slip road if traffic is slower on other lanes as they go to different places and the Tesla isn't technically undertaking anyone?
