    So the Mondeo has been busy throwing down thousands of miles over the last couple weeks but now the Check Engine light has come on, luckily for something simple, and now its running better than before!

    I picked up a MK3 2.2 TDCi 3 years ago just as a temporary cheap run-about. Expected to keep it a few about a year and then sell it on as I was planning on heading overseas. However, covid happened blar, blar blar. So, 24.330 miles later I've put on a new set of tyres, front and rear disks, a couple of brake lines and a set of rear shocks. Total investment including buying it, to date, not including servicing is around £1400. The only thing extra that I did once I realised I was gonna be here for a while was to put in a Jag Xtype leather interior. Well seats, still trying to figure out the door cards. But great cars, I can see why they were so popular back in the day.

      Diddnt know the X type seats fit the Mondeo but I did know some of the X type is based on the Mondeo I'm looking at getting a Mondeo giah soon and I've got X type interior and wheels in storage be a good opportunity to use them

      @@jamieeedden777 Yes they did bolt straight in though had to switch out the air bags and seat belt buckles to keep the computer happy but they were an easy swap. Never did get the door cards to fit though I think they would have gone with a little work. I do have a playlist here of everything I did. th-cam.com/play/PLuZOqF6h2BKAe7KSzXOHkEg0qoNL4jvzK.html

    I drilled 2 little holes in a 50p coin and superlued it to the EGR (where a blacking plate would go.) .. It lets some of the gasses through to trick the sensor. Car runs brilliant and no EML. Obviously you can drill a blanking plate but im getting rid of the car in a couple of weeks due to Dual mass going on it... Don't want to spend more than 50p on it.

    You think that EGR was crusty, you should have seen my Passat one! Choked solid with crud and the anti shudder valve below it as well. Masked one side off, sprayed Mr Muscle oven cleaner in and let sit for an hour. Clean off with an old toothbrush and hey presto, one sparkling working EGR and no black smoke. Incidently, if you'd drilled a small hole in the blanking plate the CEL would have gone out. It brings it up because it doesn't register any flow through the valve.

      same here i did on my tdci fiesta .....car drives better and is more fuel efficient :)

    I changed my egr valve for a new one as old one full of sticky crap. It made car run worse. Lots of smoke and no power under 2000 revs. I removed egr valve and pipe work, now runs like a different car. Eml was on but its mapped out. My car is mondeo mk32.0 tdci Ghia X 178bhp

    I bought a corsa c 55 plate even though I hate them with a passion I had one before and hated it but I needed a stop gap and it was only £250 with a years MOT , had to do a little work on It cam shaft sensor needed changing , belt tensioner needed replacing , the plate the break servo sits on needed resealing has water was leaking into the drivers footwell and needed a service so around a £130 on top of the £250 to get it running good , had it for 8 months now it had 87,000 miles on the clock no got 91,000 , pick up my new car on Thursday a 2018 ford focus titanium, even though i hate corsa's i am still going to keep it for tasks where you run the risk off damaging the car as its still got a lot of miles left in it.

    My money is on a nice simple proven petrol for bangernomics. Fuel economy might not be as good but much less to go wrong.

    The bolts wind out of the old egr. Theyre very small star bolts so you just need a very small star socket.

    Egr is only there to meet emissions regulations and asuming they can be mapped off the ecu your engine will be alot happier. If you cant then it the eml will come on (as it did) and won't run correctly becuse the sensors arent picking up the data it is expecting and will asume a fault...
    By blanking it off you're stopping all that "crusyness" going back into you're intake manifold and eventually the engine

    • @furiousdriving

      This one couldn't be mapped out, I did ask around

    Hi mate...do you know what the small hose is what's connected to the top of the egr valve and it runs towards the dipstick...mines spilt when I pushed the engine cover back on 😕😕 cheers

    EGR valve just dumps a load of dirty sooty, oily filth from the exhaust, straight down your lovely shiny, clean intake manifold and does absolutely nothing for performance, if anything it dampens down performance to slightly increase mpg but are the 'gains' any benefit?
    In my opinion, not really, best to try and delete it.
    BTW those cheap chinese EGR valves off ebay and such, seem like a good economical solution but there is usually a catch ie they don't last long and will fail even more quickly than the original, you basically get what you pay for!
    Interestingly my 2.0 petrol duratec has an EGR and it failed at around 95k miles but gave no engine warning light just caused hesitation and stalling once the engine warmed up. I unplugged it to test and all those issues went away! But the engine light came on brilliant. ⚠️😯😁
    Just blanked it off, no light, runs great, no more issues. 👍😎

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      people dont delete for power but reliability a they clog up, jam and restrict flow too much

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@furiousdriving Yep, it's just manufacturers way of 'cheating' the mpg figures, I've found it makes little or no difference to actual mpg anyway, certainly nothing significant!
      EGR only has a negative effect on an engine! The shouldn't be anything combustible going out the exhaust ports anyway!
      When I took my throttle body off for cleaning, you can see where the EGR valve enters the intake manifold, via a pipe, just past the throttle body, everything past there was covered in thick sooty carbon deposits, there are other sensors such as TMAP sensor in the intake which also gets filthy etc leading to other poor engine performance issues. Everything on the air filter side of the throttle body was lovely and clean!
      Just delete them, no need to have them at all, they never used to be in cars! 👍😎
