  • This 15 mile day hike starts at the Blacktail trailhead in Yellowstone National Park. This is the time of year to do this hike because it is not too hot and everything is turning green. Later in the summer it will be hot and dry in this area. It is so nice to get out and away from everything and enjoy peace and quiet in Gods beautiful creation.

    Excellent comment at 9:52. I go out into the wilds of Utah almost on a daily basis hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing or backcountry skiing. Thank you for recording these incredible hikes in Yellowstone.

    Nice basalt colonnade at 6:19. What a treat!
    10:14 fair enough - but what if we miss something on TV that’s never shown again!??
    Stan - I know you’re not doing this for the views, or as some kind of exhaustive video guidebook of the park…but I would definitely love to see you do a hike or two in the southern third of the park this summer, which I’ve never spent much time in. I enjoy the content wherever you are, but that undiscovered country would be fun.

    I was happy to see a new video from you Stan. I always enjoy your hikes at Yellowstone NP. I would be a little paranoid if I was hiking alone there. Especially if I came across a pack of wolves or a grizzly bear. I go on a lot of hikes in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and Washington.

    So glad you did Blacktail Trail. Friend and I three night backpacked it in fall 2020 (1Y5, 1R3, 1Y7). Cool to see where we pitched our tents and took a few pictures (rock in three trees) along the way. There was a bison skull near that overlook of the lake. Site 1R3 had at least 8 big sheds collected there and a great rock outcrop above Yellowstone river at the back and to the left, if get that far or come in from the other end some day. Thanks for sharing your hikes, knowledge, and love of nature.

      The bison skull is still there. Even took a video of it but didn’t put it in this video.

    Nice video. I’ve done the Hellroaring to Blacktail hike twice, the second time in 2022. The second time going up to Blacktail Trailhead from the footbridge was really rough, even though I thought I was in good shape, was warm day too, I must be getting old…

    One of my favorite hikes in the park. Have done it many times. Coming back out has become a grind. Probably my all time favorite is blacktail to hellroaring. About same distance and easier exit if you have two cars.

    Stan, I noticed you never run into other hikers on your hikes. Is this because of the time of year? I assume these trails are more heavily trafficked in the summer months?

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did see one hiker. 99.9% of hikers go no further than 3 miles. So I don’t normally see people past the 3 mile mark. But I normally do see people at 3 miles and less.

      I can answer that for you. Yes it was a in and out day hike . One of the best. I've done it many times. But it is 4 miles DOWN HILL to the bridge. So you know what that means.
