- While the rainbow pride flag has become an iconic symbol for the LGBTQ+ community, the full story behind its creation has remained largely untold. CBS News Correspondent Elise Preston sits down with Lynn Segerblom, one of the creators of the pride flag, who shares her personal story and takes a look at how the colorful symbol of hope has evolved over the years.

I always thought it originated from “somewhere over the rainbow” sung by Judy Garland and the Wizard of Oz. She was such a huge gay icon, and I just assumed that that is where it came from made sense to me.
You learn something new everyday. This is interesting.
Once it became the alphabet community symbol, it ruined the rainbow for me. For me the rainbow meant, "look at the bright side." After the storm, comes the rainbow, but it doesn't mean that anymore 🤨

I don't like the new colors and stripes. They make the flag ugly. For me, the traditional rainbow flag is perfect because it's the flag of sexual diversity. It doesn't exclude anyone. So there's no need to change it.
Yeah it’s never had anything to do with race or exclusion of a race. Not sure why they had to bring that into it.
Exactly! There was no need for any new “pride progress” flag, the original is the original and so many flags to represent so many subgroups only creates more division.
As a gay guy, I always thought it was tacky, but hearing one of the creators of the flag, I now have a new love for it. "Represents the full spectrum." Lovw that!❤

If the history of the gay rights movement is honored at the Los Angeles LGBT Center , then why does the Billboard only mention the Assassination of Harvey Milk in 1978 and nothing about the Creation of the Pride Flag ? Those that blasphemed His Father, though, Jesus drove them out of the Temple with a whip and called others a brood of vipers and demons. He was lion and lamb, lawyer and judge. His grace is given for us to change to what He wants by choice, not to continue on what we're deceived into doing.
