  • Jack Dunphy (1914-1992) was Truman Capote's partner for 35 years. Living together in Manhattan, Sicily and then apart in Long Island, New York, Dunphy was the solitary shy foil to Capote. Once a ballet dancer, Dunphy published critically acclaimed novels such as John Fury and First Wine. Outshone by Capote in the literary world, Dunphy published a remembrance of Capote in 1987. Dunphy's first wife Joan McCracken (1917-1961) remained in their orbit for years. Dunphy and Capote's ashes were scattered together in New York in 1992.

Hi, deep diving the whole FX FEUD characters real time and portrayed enchilada so welcome to my crew! I found your video enchanting, I loved your self correction (AI, ack!), a lil early on there pix you were allowed but close enough!! Thank you for more narration on Jack. I was able to snag one of his publications via my library, I could not make my way through., I've been reading up a storm, everything from Dr. Henry Cushing, Babe's dad and on and on. Couldn't read 'Wicked' either, yet loved Joan Didion for example of that era of authors and of course the world exploded with IN COLD BLOOD. I was 10 years old when it published, I remember clearly the shock wave akin to Kennedy's assassination, or Columbia explosion ... not as important, but it got around if I can be clear. Knew little if not zip about Jack so you were very helpful. Didn't know his wife died of diabetes and I assumed Truman broke them up, but apparently not! Very interesting. Some times when one lives through events or are in on them it's easier to set the record straight, for the rest of us we're catching up. My exposure to anything by the way at that tender age generally came in through my folks, mom was a COSMOPOLITAN MAG gal, and Tru and his Swans were a definite ongoing feature as anything social in NYC. I read those rags as voraciously as ma, understanding some.
    Keep creating!
