My laptop can run Black Ops 4, yet can't seem to manage FL when loaded up with VSTs to the point I had to seek out this video. Turning up the buffering worked wonders, I don't record my piano rolls live and instead prefer to draw it up, so it's a perfect quick fix for me.
Games relies heavily on your video card (GPU) while music production relies entirely on the CPU. Increasing the buffer will give your CPU some more breathing room. :)
Glad to hear that it worked out! I know exactly how frustrating that is. When you have a good flow going on, and then suddenly you're unnable to keep on working due to technical limitations.. You'll be pleased to hear that Image-Line is planning on making the freezing process a lot faster / simpler in future versions. :)
Everything was going so well with my DAW until I started playing the electric guitar and adding vocals all with mutiple effects to write songs, and started using Omnisphere 2. I 've got an i5-2.8ghz and was looking for a new computer yesterday! and stumbled upon this 😀 a lot of the settings were as on the video, then looked at the ppq settings on the projects that were really struggling with playback, lowed the ppq to 24 and playback resumed normally! On these songs they are mostly audio clips of the guitar/vocals with Kontakt doing the bass guitar and FPC the drums, so not overly reliant on precise ppq, so if you've doing this type of production try the ppq! Thanks so much for this video, helped a lot!

I use a gaming laptop with 7th gen core i7 processor and my CPU bar in fl studio doesn't go past 30%. After working on a collab with another Producer, my processor tab went to the roof after loading two or more kontakt libraries. Turned out "allow threaded processing" was turned off as a result of the settings in the project I worked on. This video helped. Thanks a lot man. Really appreciate.
Holyyyy shit you just made my life so much easier. Was wondering why my CPU gauge would jump from 10 to 80 and hang at 80 for several seconds after playing notes. I had no idea that every single serum patch I had loaded was running well after it was triggered due to the upward compression pulling noise up. Thank you so much!
Also after watching your 'the best computer for music production' 👍 it made me think of core tempratures and inspired me to get a quality (almost silent) KLIM coolpad as I'm using a laptop, realizing how warm the laptop gets when working some projects, it's seem to reduce the CPU load by a further 5-15% Having an ice cold laptop will also help to keep those core tempratures down! 😁 I would recommend anyone who is struggling to watch that video as well.

Enabling smart disable is what did it for me, thanks a lot :p One thing to note about using smart disable though is that if you're using Fruity LSD in any of your mixer tracks, you'll have to click the arrow in the top left of the LSD window and untick smart disable because it's a generator that isn't directly linked to a piano roll, and so it forever mutes it.

@@FireWalkMusic I realized that it was opening the 32 bit version of the plugin so YES it was bridging it. Now I'm opening the 64 bit version and it seems to have calmed down on swamping my CPU. Regardless, my computer is such a beast it's hard to believe it would bog down my CPU regardless of if it's bridged or not.
2 years ago i finally replace my 2005 super weak pc, build a beast with an expensive core i7, tought i never heard about crackling problem again... I was wrong! My CPU never go above 20% and i still can't play midi decently on my 2 favourite DAW's. Certain plugins just crackling when i play them. I'm so tired of computers
I know the feeling. What kind of genre do you produce? And what's your buffer settings? are you using the asio drivers that came with your sound card? I've found that 250 - max 512 samples is working well for me. Anything above that and the lag becomes too prominent when playing live. Anything bellow 250 will waste a lot of cpu power while not providing any noticable in latency.
Hi, I'm a "Hip-Hop/Jazz/Soul/Neo-Soul "producer"". Usualy i'm start playing with a hi-hat/snare/kick and i can play my pianos, synths or bass with 128-256 buffer size value. Problems comes when the projects become bigger (of course), sometimes i just add a powefull synth on a project and i have too increase the buffer size (somtimes the max buffer wasn't enough for project with not hat much intruments and effects), i'am allergic to music created with the mousse, so it's become hard to maintain a decent latency (i recently had to admit that's 512mps/12ms and over was THE reason i felt/feel unconfortable with playing midi on pc) I used to asio4all but i don't see a big difference between it and the recent version of FL Studio asio, or my Magix Low latency asio... I have a regular Cakewalk/Roland (i have both) UA-25 EX soundcard, i know it's the weak point of my setting but can he affect my buffer problem so bad? BY THE WAY THIS VIDEO SHOW ME TRICKS I DIDN'T KNOW AND I FEEL MORE CONFORABLE SINCE I MADE THOSE SETTINGS YESTERDAY! THANKS!!! But i have a problem with the screen lagging/ not showing in real time what i heard due to one modificaton i did: i'm going to work on it tonigth: any idea please?
I'm watching your videos has my new tv show, just for pleasure, even when i know the subject or it's not my music genre. Quality on every level! Your voice and the music thought ha ha ha: National Geographic WITH SOUND GEARS IN PLACE OF ANIMALS. GREAT!!!
Sorry last question: How can the task manager tells me my processor is 5% and i have those buffer problems? I asked this question so many times since my new configuration
I see. The FL Studio asio is kind of a hybrid driver, which will allow you to watch youtube and such while at the same time using FL Studio. Asio4all, and the driver that came with your sound card (if you have one) will be the best bet since they take 100% control of the soundcard, and therefore can have direct access to it with no delay. Some times an internal soundcard can be the culprit. Regarding what you see vs what you hear not being in sync, try changing to "mixer" instead of driver, if that's what it on. Ideally it should be hybrid, but if you set it to Mixer then it SHOULD be in sync.
@@FireWalkMusic why i can't use all of my cpu in fl studio fl studio show me i'm using 50 percent cpu but in my task manager show me 20 percent how to use all of my cpu in fl studio ???
Awesome thank you for the video. I thought it was very well put together which made it super easy to retain the information, very concise. I have to say the most prevalent issue with online education or instruction is a tendency to over complicate the curriculum and even sometimes go way of topic : ). Not the case here . Well done ,I’m subscribed!
Indeed! That's the very reason I started making these tutorials in the first place. A friend of mine was struggling to learn music production. He watched countless tutorials but was always left confused, as many tended to drift off topic as you say, and make the video longer and more complicated than it had to be. I ended up making a few videos specifically for him, trying to break everything down and make it as short and simple as possible. And that's how it all started. I'm glad to see that people still find these videos helpful! It's what motivates me to make more videos like this :)
This just makes Ableton Live 10 look silly. Ableton doesn't bridge 32bit plugins. Ableton doesn't have a smart CPU saver. Ableton doesn't even support VST3.
When I enabled multi threaded processing on my kontakt instruments I got rid off the buffer grlitches and can play my track with only 2ms :O Question now is why this isn't just on by default since it definetly helped!
I don't recommend to freeze midi track because in some moment you will wanna go back to do some changes and to make changes you will need to load the plugin again and delete that freeze track.
yeah, freezing in FL Studio is quite tedious. Other daws have a simple one button freeze / unfreeze button, which makes freezing and unfreezing very simple and effortless. While freezing is not that difficult in FL, the unfreezing can be a real pain in the ass, as you say. You don't have to delete the plugin though, you can just disable it in the channel rack, and it won't consume any CPU power. However, you still have to re-route everything in the mixer, which can be a real pain. I try to avoid freezing whenever I can. Some times though, you have no choice. If the project start stuttering and you don't have any CPU power to spare, you simply might just have to start freezing tracks anyways. :\
Hi, how are you. Rather, the tutorial is very good. A query, in the channels of the mixer in the option "Audio output target", the other channels I leave by default (none) or I have to select the options of the audio that the ASIO gives me ?. Since the MASTER has it incorporated the ASIO and is connected or linked for the other channels. THANX XD!!... Sorry my bad english.
I'm not quite sure what you mean? Are you talking about the input selection in the various mixer tracks? The asio driver is just a low latency playback driver, since it's giving the daw direct access to the soundcard without it having to go trough the OS first.
Hi mate... For some reason I have never been able to use asio, there is no sound when I change it to the asio setting... Have you any idea what the problem could be? I should also mention i use a scarlet 2i2...
Hi, not all sound cards support asio. If you're using the onboard sound card on your computer for example, it might simply not support it. I recomend getting a dedicated audio interface if you make music. They will come with their own low latency asio driver which will increase performance. They also come with a dedicated volume knob, outputs for headphones and monitors and so on. I recommend you check out these videos: Top 5 budget audio interfaces: th-cam.com/video/g0x5thV50ig/w-d-xo.html How to choose the right audio interface for your home studio: th-cam.com/video/ant-Z_AymhQ/w-d-xo.html
@@FireWalkMusic Thanks again buddy for the reply... I used to think that because I had a scarlet 2i2 interface it would help with cpu, but not sure that it does.. I will deffo check out the links here.. Nice one mate..
okay i have a question. So i switched from what fl studio had for fl studio asio to asio4all and i tried playing your video at the same time to follow along to your voice. but then the video said audio renderer problem. it turns out it happened because I switch from one asio to another. How do I fix this?
The FL Studio ASIO driver allows you to use the OS sounds (youtube etc) at the same time as you're using FL Studio. The ASIO4ALL on the other hand takes complete control of your sound card, which means that you'll get lower latencies, but you won't be able to use windows sounds etc.
This is really a boom video i am thinking that why dont imageline did this i mean i know they have already uploaded about asio4all but deepen .hey firewalk u are rock.Rab rakha tere
No they don't do any processing in that regard, certainly nothing that can offload the CPU in any way. They just play back the sound. The CPU is doing all the internal processing, like generating the sound from the synths, then adding the processing in the mixer like EQ, compression etc, and then any mastering effects etc.
All the time but only when im recording my vocals the rest is good it's just when im recording vocale do you have anthing that will fix that solution? FireWalk
I have a problem. in live performance io play whit a launchpad and keyboard. Whens launchpad is playing a beat, the keyboard volume less power eventually, i dont know what is the problem.
why wouldn't FL have the default audio settings set to "ASIO4ALL v2" if that is best? how does this cause faster communication between FL and my sound card?
The FL Studio asio driver is a kind of hybrid driver, allowing you to play back sounds through windows, like youtube for example, while still using FL Studio. Asio4all has less latency because it takes 100% control of the sound card, and bypasses windows entirely. For this reason, you won't be able to pay back windows sounds, youtube etc when using that one.
FireWalk for me, the default setting responds faster when i am practicing keyboard with my midi. i can’t practice keyboard with asio4all because there is a very slight lag between when i hit my midi note and when i hear the sound
How come everytime I use the Piano Roll Chopper on Fl Studios, When I close the program and try to restart it, It says Fl Studio Launcher has stopped working? Like my program still runs, but i have to Click on Fl Studios like 3x so it can start. Through out those 3 times it says Fl Studio Launcher has stopped working. If you can please help me find a solution? The reason i found out something was wrong, I tried to refresh, it's because i saw that when I did "Alt U", It looked like it was loading for a bit then after that it worked perfect but when I exited out Fl Studios and tried to pull it up again and this happened. But i know its only when I use "Alt U" Because I did everything else and FL Studios pulled up perfectly. but when I click Alt U, During my session, and exit and try to pull it up again this happens. Please please help me.
How can i disable cpu core parking? Is it automatically disabled when the pc is in high Performance mode? I have an i9 processor and 32 GB ram, but when i use around 4000 mb the System legs... i guess that's not normal?
There's a link in the video description to an app that will disable it. I know it works in windows 7, but I don't know if it will work in windows 10. You can go into power settings and choose advanced for your power plan. There you should be able to set the minimum CPU state. Set it to 100%
I don't understand... My CPU load never shows anything above 3% yet I frequently get audio clipping and crackling when recording live "jam sessions" in performance mode.
@@FireWalkMusic yes I'm using the asio driver but I'm using USB microphones. I think that may be the issue for some reason cause no matter how much I increase the buffer size it comes in and out.
Is the Asio4All driver better than specific ones like "Yamaha Steinberg USB Asio" in my case ? Cant believe cause with the specific i can go 48kHz where it crashes at asio4all
No, it's just a general asio driver for all devices. If you have a steinberg USB interface then I recommend using the steinberg asio driver that came with it. :)

Hi,
I'm a "Hip-Hop/Jazz/Soul/Neo-Soul "producer"". Usualy i'm start playing with a hi-hat/snare/kick and i can play my pianos, synths or bass with 128-256 buffer size value. Problems comes when the projects become bigger (of course), sometimes i just add a powefull synth on a project and i have too increase the buffer size (somtimes the max buffer wasn't enough for project with not hat much intruments and effects), i'am allergic to music created with the mousse, so it's become hard to maintain a decent latency (i recently had to admit that's 512mps/12ms and over was THE reason i felt/feel unconfortable with playing midi on pc)
I used to asio4all but i don't see a big difference between it and the recent version of FL Studio asio, or my Magix Low latency asio...
Ideally it should be hybrid, but if you set it to Mixer then it SHOULD be in sync.
oh my god😱 men you're amazing I've really needed this tutorial, I love you so much
Glad I could help :)
@@FireWalkMusic you are a godsend
how to make sure fl studio is set to high priority in task manager ???
Hi, I don't think you can do this anymore in windows 10. :\
@@FireWalkMusic why i can't use all of my cpu in fl studio
fl studio show me i'm using 50 percent cpu but in my task manager show me 20 percent
how to use all of my cpu in fl studio ???
@@SinaJVH that's a good questions. I have a video that explains this here: th-cam.com/video/fWuC-OHsqiY/w-d-xo.html
@@FireWalkMusic thank you🙏🙏
Awesome thank you for the video.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCHHHHH! THIS VIDEO HELPED ME BETTER THAN OTHER VIDEOS.
Glad to hear it :) You're welcome
great tutorial. short and thorough. i appreciate you.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful 😀
This just makes Ableton Live 10 look silly. Ableton doesn't bridge 32bit plugins. Ableton doesn't have a smart CPU saver. Ableton doesn't even support VST3.
It's quite nice to be able to still use 32 bit plugins. You can always use jbridge but it's not nearly as stable.
Ableton and these programs r made to be used with higher performance computers over all
Thanks. Now I can run Kontakt Library smoothly
You're welcome :)
great tutorial.. People with CPU problems will be helped a lot. Thanks ! ;-)
Thanks man! :D
This helped me solve all my problems! THANK YOU! :)
That's good to hear! I'm glad it was helpful to you. :)
ITS WORKING! nice job dude
I have done all things you said & there is no CPU load but still pops & clicks are there, help!
You have set the buffer to the maximum etc? What are the CPU meter reading ? Is it red?
@@FireWalkMusic it doesn't go to the red at all, the CPU is pretty cool & free, I've done all the settings you said, this is so weird and frustrating
@@FireWalkMusic solved, some waves 11 audio driver was fucking up, thanks to you too
bro that allow threaded processing saved me serum is big gay for not enabling by default
Glad you found t helpful :)
phewh. thanks bro you make me tension free.
You're welcome :)
When I enabled multi threaded processing on my kontakt instruments I got rid off the buffer grlitches and can play my track with only 2ms :O Question now is why this isn't just on by default since it definetly helped!
Hi, It used to be on by default, then they made it off by default due to problems with some plugins. But now it's back on by default again. :)
This solved all my problems, thanks!
Glad to hear it :)
Very informative! Thank you!
You're welcome :)
Best tutorial on youtube
Thanks, much appreciated! :)
I don't have the process options
Are you using the newest version of FL Studio?
@@FireWalkMusic yes fl 20
I don't believe my version is cracked one I bought it off Amazon gave me flash drive n came in FL studio box had too use serial number too activate
Do you know why i get random "out of memory" errors even tho i have only just opened fl studio ?
Much much memory do you have?
Thank you so much! You deserve much much much more than just another subscriber like me. =)
Thanks! Much appreciated :)
I checked - everything is clean
I love you!!! Thank you very much! Daw works perfectly now ☺️
You're welcome :)
Macros Option finally worked!
Thanks it really worked🙏...
Cpu usage gone from 75%(average) to 1% with only one plugin idle😂
Great, glad to hear it! :)
Defenitly watch this video....
You are amazing bro you fixed my life😂🙉
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful :)
Awesome! Thank you!!

very fantastic video!
Thanks 😊

I'm glad I could help! That's why I make these videos :)
I recommend you check out these videos:

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! :) :)
Its works Great tutorial brother . Thank you soo much . ❤

Great video, thanks!
You're welcome :)
Ok i turned on the asio4all v2 on and everything worked faster.. but i couldnt hear anything.. sny help pls? ;(
Do you have two soundcards?
FireWalk no
Open the buffer length settings he showed in the video and toggle the blue (or red if it's not working) buttons on and off a few times
hey when i try to enable asio4all it immediately freezes and a pop up appears saying fl studio 12 has stopped working??? whats going on?
Try another asio driver if you have one. What kind of soundcard do you have?
Right when I clicked smart disable my CPU usage dropped! thankyou!
Thanks this has been à life saving tutoriel
Glad to hear it :)
This is incredible, thank you
You're welcome 🙂
i installed a 64 bit plugin and my pc is alsto running 64 bit but still it says the plugin is bridged
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of fl studio itself.
I'm right in thinking that your sound card in your pc /audio interface can play a part in the processing? In terms of performance
No they don't do any processing in that regard, certainly nothing that can offload the CPU in any way. They just play back the sound. The CPU is doing all the internal processing, like generating the sound from the synths, then adding the processing in the mixer like EQ, compression etc, and then any mastering effects etc.
what program do u use for screen capture
Hey, I used bandicam :)
incredibly helpful friend, thank you.
You're welcome :)
When im recording my vocals with fl studio it does a popping sound do you think this video will help me?
Where does the popping occur? At the very beginning or the end? Or all the time?
All the time but only when im recording my vocals the rest is good it's just when im recording vocale do you have anthing that will fix that solution? FireWalk
That's strange. Sounds like an issue with your interface, not the cpu. Try a different driver and see what happens.
I have a problem. in live performance io play whit a launchpad and keyboard. Whens launchpad is playing a beat, the keyboard volume less power eventually, i dont know what is the problem.
Geneally you could say that people _SHOULD_ use the 64bit versions of both, as all CPUs sold the last 10 years or so are 64bit :)
Indeed! It's a bit strange that so many still use 32 bit. Perhaps they are just unaware of the limitations. :)
why wouldn't FL have the default audio settings set to "ASIO4ALL v2" if that is best? how does this cause faster communication between FL and my sound card?
That's difficult to say. Which version of FL Studio are you using? Perhaps you have to reinstall the common files.
Set it to 100%
tip 9 was a gem
I don't understand... My CPU load never shows anything above 3% yet I frequently get audio clipping and crackling when recording live "jam sessions" in performance mode.
What is the latency set at? are you using the ASIO4ALL driver?
@@FireWalkMusic yes I'm using the asio driver but I'm using USB microphones. I think that may be the issue for some reason cause no matter how much I increase the buffer size it comes in and out.
That's weird. Perhaps it's a driver problem. Are you using the newest driver for it?
you saved the session Thanks!
Glad I could be of help :)
When Asio4all v2 is not dysplayed ? Where i found this?
Are you using an older version of FL Studio? The ASIO4ALL driver is installed when you install FL Studio.
Yes, thank you for supp. I search in googl “ASIO4ALL download” and i downloaded it. Thank you for great vid. 👏🏽
@@FireWalkMusic alright thank u
Great video! I like it
Thanks! :)
