You are awesome, but the right angles drive me crazy. I count 10+ places where you can have an extra road tile for free (like 2 in the white cluster from the beginning). Would help when low on roads!
100%, I could have saved myself a lot of roads on the right angled-driveways, it'd basically save me one road per subdivision if I'm thinking about it correctly (because any stretch of road connecting cars still needs to exist, so the edges are the ones that matter). It's also give a slight uptick in efficiency, depending on the density! For my 10K+ run attempts, I definitely keep this in mind, but for a really hectic weekly I kind of just went for it!
I used to not do right angles but I found after a lot of games and high scores that using more right angles allow to not have new houses and markets spawn in inconvenient places too close to market entrances, house driveways and other strategic places. In later game I often end up having to cut these corners to let a new road go through and I’m always really glad I left them. Also it helps structure house spawning areas and my houses spawn in straight line instead of forming a cluster
Very nice. Btw, I like to put a few roads around malls so that malls never spawn right next to each other. Always at least 2 tiles apart which allows two roads to pass between two malls. That leaves a lot more options open for road (re-)routing in the mid to lategame.
But in this challenge you get spawns slap against each other! 3x4 double dests can do the same in normal games. If you try it the mess means you cannot control anything soon enough! Spawns are too crazy
Just wanted to mention that roundabouts are kind of unnecessary when you have several colours going on to the same road stream. In general IRL roundabouts are best when separating groups going to different destinations smoothly. (Similarly any two colours heading towards a similar enough destination can be treated as the same colour) Thanks for the relaxing vids and stuff, just wanted to give a little hand :)
Question for the pros: If you have a double warehouse, is it better to keep 1 entrence (maybe combinded with a roundabout) or should you use both entrences? With 1 you have this neat "stream" of cars and no traffic jam because on both sides cars come in.
I hate to give this answer, but it really depends on the scenario! Overall, I'd say that a) two populations coming from two sides independent of each other is the best solution, and b) the second best solution for non-upgraded buildings is a single entrance. It comes down to the flow rate of a roadway, since the later stages of the game make the double warehouse areas pseudo-random (tl;dr it pathfinds to the closest open parking spot to the car's home, but once you get past ~4 active trips per warehouse, it can't give you good locations anymore, it's just whatever is open Source: I stared at the parking lots while editing until I could estimate a car's trip location lol). In that sense, the best thing to do is maximize your output flow and less so your input flow (which is still important, but not what will clog things up in late game!), which requires use of both sides of the lot. Rules of the road still apply, so you'll still have the circular traffic flow, an average distance from the entrance of 0.5 units (halfway between), both of which are the same as if you had one entrance... but the total cars exiting from any one entrance is 'n/2' (for two entrances in use) as opposed to 'n' (for one entrance in use). Where things get complicated is when you start having mixed populations, or uneven numbers coming in from one side versus the other, that's when skill and judgement come into the mix. Hope this helps!
i got 7500 in the challenge on my first try!!!!!!!!! :D this is significantly better than what i usually achieve, even though i would have thought the modifier of complete randomness would make the game more difficult
@@Retroflux the size is actually fine, its just when its later in the game with all the moving stuff its tough to find the cursor. I remember like 10 years ago when you could customize your cursor on windows XP good times
You're in the Highscores one hour after the Challenge released, I'm in your comment section one hour after your video has been uploaded. That's the deal!
You'd never know what would spawn, though! You might accidentally block yourself into an impossible solution. It's worth a shot, but maybe not worth the headache :)
@@Retroflux Well I wrote that comment only 10 mins into the video. Good lord the end result. Its just a huge headache no matter what you do. But yeah I saw some questionable decisions that lead to the cross-map trips.
@@Retroflux hm, they should change that. so you can decide to skip a moterway for getting it later. otherwise motorway will always be the only choice (it is just that good).
Nooooo you beat me 😭 pretty amazing that you kept it all separate though, that's impressive! Though I'm guessing with that score, you had some issues with getting enough cars on your main roads?
Motorways are bridges that also consume no road tiles and can cross over other roads without interruption. Oh, and they also go faster, if you needed more reason to love them. ;P
If your on a game show where there are three doors and goats are behind 2 of them but the other has a new car. And you chose a door to see what’s behind it, but before it’s opened the host asks you if you want to switch to the other door, do you?

@@victormustin2547 Me too! I deliberately don't optimise early game with low demand, because claiming space, spawn room and flexibility matters more.

I didn't get a second motorway my entire run. Watching to see how you did.
Really!?!? That's insane, I would 100% try it again. Motorways are imperative, unless you want to connect literally everything lol

Ayy after watching you for a while i've finally gotten good enough to beat you on a weekly challenge :D - 7,080. Love the videos.
Nice work! Maybe I'll have to try again later this week >:)
Bridge vs motorway, mostly go with the motorway however a reason for choosing the bridge is 10 extra road tiles.

The lack of zoning was so stressful, but somehow I got my personal best score on this

Love your video's! Will you make a video where you try the new traffic lights and give your commentary on them?

You can get motorways offered more than once, but it's random lottery AFAIK so you may never see another again
