  • In this video I go over some key reasons for loving photography and the process of breaking out of your comfort zone. While looking for some evening compositions with my Leica Q2 Reporter, I stumble into an impromptu photo session.

    Came for the Q2 Reporter, stayed for the photography philosophy. I resonate a lot with walking a divergent path when camera is in hand. I want to go to new places and stay around in areas I normally wouldn't. A pursuit forms. A magnetism builds between me and my environment. My X100VI with it's versatility and form factor has helped me break into new paths after quite the lull.

    Love this video. I had a similar feeling on a work trip to nashville last week, I had like 2 hours to either take a nap at the hotel, or to go shoot! I went to Broadway and got some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken and I met some amazing people!

    I totally get what you mean. It’s hard to go out sometimes but once you take the first shot it all falls into place. Great video!

    I had a similar experience yesterday. I was out shooting and found some graffiti artists at work. After they figured out I wasn't there to hassle them I ended up hanging out with them and shooting while they worked. Cool day for me. Good video.

    As a longtime street shooter I have experienced what you describe. Thank you for articulating this so well. . There are photos everywhere; right! My Q2 goes everywhere with me.

    Your video popped up (maybe because I have been checking out Leicas for the first time) and triggered wonderful memories of around 25 years ago shooting at Seattle’s Pike Place Market especially in the winters were best … so rich full of color & drenched wet. Since then I have strayed from photography and thinking about getting back into it again as you have reminded about those times when it’s so magical. Thank you.

      My pleasure! I lived in Seattle for a time as well! Glad you enjoyed it.

    Got my sub! I appreciated the caring for your equipment as you did the video. You sound like a busy guy, and sometimes we’ve got to multitask…and you were a great model for gear care while you did! 👍🏼 I had heard of the Q2 (I love Leica…I have 2 Leicaflex’s, an M2R, M3, M4, + oodles of Leica glass)…but have been looking for that one camera that inspires me digitally. I had it (Fuji X100F)…but then got destroyed on a hike across Ireland in the rain. My Sony a7r4 is wonderful…and almost gets the job done…but falls short. The Q2 Reporter is it. I’ll be picking one up hopefully by the Fall. Thanks again for your effort making this video, and for the inspiration & good words. 👍🏼

    I might have to take the plunge and get the Leica, I make the Sony work as a camera but it's primarily and video camera. And you're right the opportunities photography gives you such as an impromptu photo session is what keeps me going.

    Shooting around NYC this happens so much. There's a buncha everything all the time and you just wade in, letting it wash over you.
    Good video. Intentionality is sorely lacking for some creatives, I'd say. Somehow it's still a secret, but the fact remains: inspiration is created.

    Great video. Question; do you use 1/8 or 1/4 pro mist?

    • @NathanielRolland
      @NathanielRolland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jonathan! Actually it was the cine-bloom 10%.

    • @serrythiel
      @serrythiel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1/4 have a nicer and noticeable (but not too much) mist/bloom in my opinion. 1/8 is too subtle for my taste. However, given that cinebloom comes in 10% and 20%, I will say a cinebloom 10% is equivalent to about a 1/8. (math: 1/8=12.5%, so ~10%. 1/4 is 25%, so ~20%).

    I guess you broke the timer commitment in the end? (Being invited into the Tattoo Parlor and all that?) Not to call you out but to affirm what you said about photography (or maybe it's the Q2? Since the artist recognized it and opened the door) can take you down a different trajectory as things happen!! Great video, glad I came across you. Subscribed and saying Hi from Illinois!

    Man I can relate to this as I sometimes fight lack of motivation or creative burnout. Especially when you are trying to grow your platform. I just picked up the Q2 and it certainly helped to spark that creative drive again. I love my X-T5 too but there is something about the Q2. And funny story, I ran into someone that asked about my camera. He had a Sony a7. I was like man this is a more manual camera. You camera is a better performer. I didn't want to draw attention either. LOL

    • @NathanielRolland
      @NathanielRolland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! But the Q2 files grade like butter. If you can nail the shot, there’s a great payoff.

    • @NathanielRolland
      @NathanielRolland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Prinz! I’ve only shot video a couple times on the Q2, and I don’t think it has a record limit. However, it’s strength definitely isn’t video, since it doesn’t have an audio jack.

  • @serrythiel

    I laughed when I heard your stories about the Q2! When Q2 first came out, the spec interests me but that price!! (Ughh.) Yet almost 2 years later, when I saw the Q2 Reporter, I knew I just have to get it. (It is now more expensive because it has no red dot? Go figure!) The very first evening I took it out to a college orientation event, a newly arrived international (Taiwan) student came over and ask, "Is that a Leica Q2?" (What?!!! Epic Fail, you Q2 anonymity!!) Turned out, he is a photography media student. Morale of the lesson: those who knows, will know. This never happens again though (people asking if it is Leica/Q2), so "Those who don't know have no idea what it is." 😄

    Thieves know branded and unbranded cameras. Covering the red dot is pointless when thieves know very well what each model is.

  • @vidjoe8320
    @vidjoe8320 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    C'mon... you dont buy a Leica Reporter because it's more low key without the red dot. You're a creative... you could just colour out the red dot with a black marker pen
