A review as you would like to see it from others. Coincidentally ordered the Yaesu yesterday, but had I seen this review before, I wouldn't have had to hesitate to order it. Wonderful piece of technology.
I realize this video is 2 years old, but regarding the lack of mic jack in the detachable head. A lot of people put the display head on the sun visor and the radio under the seat with the mic cord running up between the seats. That way if you throw the mic under the seat and flip the sun visor up, no one can see any part of the radio from outside the car. The display is right in front of your face if you need to change something and the mic can be hidden quite easily under a newspaper or something if you don't want it under the seat. I like this radio for the same reasons you pointed out: Its simple. That is GOOD while driving. I feel a radio in a car does not need to do packet, digital wiz-bangery or a host of other things.
@@mikehume1540 In the same boat. I prefer Yaesu FTM-6000 over IC2730, because it looks cooler and has a data port, that I may use (one day) to play with digital modes.
Very informative video! You touched on several features that I didn't understand by reading the manual! I use RT Systems Programming Software to program my Yaesu FTM-6000R. 73, KB7TJM 📡👍🙋♂️
Thank you for your opinion on the radio. Im looking for my first radio and you have given me some idea how to approach this obviously overwhelming decision.
I would buy one of these right now if there is an open transmit mod that would cover GMRS and MURS frequencies. I know, I know it is illegal to transmit on those frequencies. It would be great to rely on one radio in an emergency. 73 and nice review!
Hi, nice review, I have this radio, is good radio in my opinion, easy to program, simple, the microphone is very useful with the buttons, made in Japan, 3 years warranty. 73, HJ4AVG
A great follow up to the FT-7900 for those of us who aren't interested in digital voice. Interesting they include a long head unit cable but as per the review there's no mic socket on the head so you need a long mic extension which is not included. They should either include both cables or neither.
Thanks for your reply 👍... very appreciated. And yes.... that'd be very helpful if you can send me the links for the MODS. When you can, OK. No rush! Have a good one!!! 73s from KJ4BGW
Reading and watched many reviews about the 6000, some not very flattering and largely based on assumptions rather than hands-on experience. Go with the hand-son experience reviews before you decide. Simply put, it is not perfect but it is right for me.
Keying the mic while scanning just stops the scan. HRO had these on sale for $199.00 recently, that’s a pretty good deal for a Made in Japan dual band mobile.
I would buy for $249.95 that's it . Dualband only 1 band at a time" . Narrow tx has no purpose. Decent looking analog FM radio. The radio looks tuff and durable . Yaesu needs ditch RJ-45 mic connectors use the 8npin barrel types. Lot yaesu mics break after 2 years cord or wire pulls out connector . They should kept making Ft 7900 it seems lot there radios discontinued to quickly.
Here is the problem with all these amateur grade equipment - they're amateurish and not completely thought through. The software features are nice but the lack of a mic connector for the faceplate is downright stupid. And it is obvious Yaesu still uses that micky mouse connector for the mic which will break off sooner than later. I'm using Motorola commercial gear and have never looked back.

One of the best reviews I've seen for this radio.

I have had an inward debate with myself for sometime about purchasing this radio. Your video has been quite helpful. Thank you!...M
I’ve actually been considering either this or the ic2730a. Glad I saw this review. Thank you!
Which one you went with?
i am looking at the same 2 radios, what did you get?

Thanks for the exceptional review! You have me sold on the FTM-6000.
Thanks!
Happy to see more Norwegian hamtubers!
Yaesu not showing the frequencies during scan is actually very nice and logical in my opinion.
You can alter it so you can see frequency
Awesome explanation of this yaesu ftm 6000, you have helped me make my choice, Thank You

Its an updated ft7800/ft7900. Nice little radio...
Thanks. The microphone hookup issues are a deal breaker for me.

Takker for en interessant gjennomgang av denne radioen.
Thanks for the very informative Review 🙏
Great review....does the radio do alpha tags to name your memories....Thanks
Yes, it does
Nice looking radio. Does it have APRS?
Well you can get a mic extension from 3 ft to over 15 ft
Nice review! Thanks for sharing! ....I wonder if there's any MOD to open the TX range.... Otherwise looks like a great analog radio.

How to chose between low, high power when transmitting?
Hi, if you are scanning, when you key up, does it transmit on whatever channel it happens to be on, or can you set a priority channel or something?
Keying the mic while scanning just stops the scan. HRO had these on sale for $199.00 recently, that’s a pretty good deal for a Made in Japan dual band mobile.
Hello how to reset the yaesu FTM 6000r
Hugs thanks

Hi, does it have a CW trainer like the FT-2980 ?
Hi -- not that I have found? But then again, I didn't find it on the 2980 either :)

I don’t understand why yaesu can’t make something like the ft-1500 anymore. No fan..simple, and super small. No removable face though.
They do. FT-2980 has no fan either. But keep in mind that these aren't dual band radios. Not the same requirement for cooling.
@@techstuffandmore those are nice rigs but huuuge. This looks like a decent analogue rig, which they have been lacking for a while. Nice review!
