Dude, you just saved me a ton of cash. And possibly my life. My VMAX has dang near thrown me several times in past weeks. Haven't had it long and I've been on it less than two hundred miles. Bike builder in my neighborhood says it's the wheel and tire. Just check my bike and it bounced hard right at least twice. Left side just one. So after work I will do the adjustment you showed us in the video and hopefully be back in the road with no expense. Thanks
I have a 2002 Vmax, I had a low and high speed wobble. I followed your instructions and my problem got solved right away. Thanks a lot Sean. AWESOME VIDEO
Your local dealer won't have a clue. Most only see one vmax get sold through their facility each year. As far as the manual. It's not always correct either and they are always adding in corrections and procedure changes as they themselves learn the best way to fix these bikes. Yes, the manual shows a different method of setting the tension. We've been around doing this a very long time and I will tell you this is the absolute best way to set these up for proper handling.
I still get comments about how this is not the correct way to set the tension. And it falls one way easier then the other since we're doing it wrong. This method works quite well and has solve countless bikes with the same issue (and not just vmax's). This is not a replacement for bearings that are worn, flatspotted, or just plain crap. The reason it falls one way differently then the other is due to the throttle cables. Adjust how you want but this way works!
thanks. I just fixed my front end wobble and saved a few hundred dollars. I thought it might be wheel out of balance or something else but glad I found this video so that I could fix it on my own. BTW, harbor freight seems to have the best deal on the 1 1/16th wrench. Its about 17 bucks for the whole set!! Thanks again. Keep up the good work. Ride on!!
Great job I am going to try to see if this correct my wobble. BTW What do you have your bike on? I have looked under mine and do not see a place to use a jack.
Hi Sean How are you..?..i am from bandung city..west java ,indonesia, would asking you.....what kind of steer bearing had..for yamaha Vmax 1200.model year 95 ?....,think i need to replace steer bearing had in my vmax.....,🙏
i just did this and used the Furbur order for putting the ring nuts back on. fixed the wobble but now the bike itself sways from left to right as I ride hands free. might need to replace the tire?
@@AndyLangley-s9h you may be a tad loose on the bearing tension with what you describe. Symptoms might include a wobble when letting go of the handlebar during deceleration around 30-40mph (add well as other speeds). You should be able to tighten the nuts to increase tension and get that to the fall and stop without bouncing which should improve stability
Sean. I have a Vmax in Bolivia. South América. I have a lot of questions. I suscribe your channel cause you are the best in this bikes. My vmax vibrates when I let go the handle bar or when I take a turn and it has a bump. Can you help me please. I don't know what to do.
Regardless of how long you've been doing this, its not correct. The neck bearings don't work that way. That's why you had bounce one way and not the other. Their tension setting is for center to [given measurement] left or right. Typically 1 inch either direction.
I did this to my bike last year and worked like a charm. Sean knows what he is talking about.

Fantastic explanation. I did mine tonight and it's fantastic! No more death wobble.
Thanks Sean, this will help on my used Max that has had the wobble since I got it.
Did you fix the wobble after? Lol I know, you may or may not have that bike today, but I am interested if it worked for you. What year is/was yours?

May i get that steer bearing had yamaha vmax1200 ..?
When I lifted my bike, I spun the wheel and that was wobbly, so do I have to replace the rim?

Hi Sean was told to watch your video on handle drop did that on mine and it bounced 1 and a half times on both sides so guessing that is wrong

Never heard of a torque wrench & factory settings ?
thats not how you CORRECTLY adjust your sterring head!!!! people follow your service manuals or ask you local dealer
