I noticed you said it draws a lot of current...enough maybe that if your battery was low it would struggle to work?
I am beginning to wonder one older smarts that all of a sudden can't get reverse gear this could be part of the problem...not to mention battery deterioration.

I need to know how to wire the pins please to move actuator. I’ve greased it, another video shows pin 1 as positive so what pin for movement please

    Hi @Ed Kok
    Great video ;)
Did you try to put another harder spring + faster electric 12VDC motor to improve gear speed changes faster ?
Any idea on the 12VDC motor specs & refs to see by which another one could it be replaced ?
    Thx in advance,
    Best regards

Hi Louis, thanks for the compliment.
No, I did not use a stiffer spring but did use a spacer to give the spring a little more tension. Can't say it is noticeble though, but the unit works well.
It is actually a real good idea to replace the motor for a faster one, but it won't be easy to find one that fits I'm afraid. But please keep us posted if you do find upgrade parts!

Actuator it's all metallic inside? Or there is some plastic?
It's because I want to use some oil spray but I can't use it if there is a plastic inside actuator

Diosquecrak Oooi I think the cog is nylon. Definitely not metal. Most use lithium grease inside.

Hello Ed. I have to refurbish the actuator from My Roadster to and I need to know something you may know: when you tested the motor outside, did it rotated freely in both directions with no limiting or did it had stops so it would only do a certain amount of turns in each direction? I'm trying to understand how it knows the position where it is at each moment. Thanks in advance.

Hi, yes the motor runs freely in both directions when not mounted to the actuator housing. The motor has Hall-effect sensors which generates the pulses as can been seen in the video. The ECU uses these pulses to 'know' what the position is. When mounted to the actuator housing the motor is stopped by the ECU.

Thanks Ed. Now I understand that also the motor runs from top to top to have a reference position and then counts pulses to know where it is. Mine hesitates a bit when retracting... is that a signal that the mechanical part needs to be cleaned? The ECU errors are something like "error in cluthc actuator position sensor". Please give me your opinion. Thanks

If you have the actuator away from the clutch, so on your desk for instance, than yes it is normal that it is slower in the direction of compressing the internal spring. This is because it misses the help from the clutch pushing back. Also your power-supply can be a limiting factor because it pulls a lot of current.
Can't tell for sure if cleaning will help. But if you do open up the actuator be sure it is in the extended position. The spring will bite you hard!

Ed Kok thanks for your help and advice. I'll try to avoid getting bitten. :)

how you wired the switch to turn on the motor on for the bench test?

The motor is simply 12 volt dc, so use a powersupply and wire a switch to reverse polarity to go back and forth. The connections in the connector probably came from Evilution.co.uk
Be aware the motor draws a lot of amperage.
