The Somali actors did a great job. It must've been pretty awesome to have no acting experience and get to work with Tom Hanks and get nominated for an Academy Award in his first role. I hope he has continued success.
Yeah well it's not like there's a whole lot of options for his profile in Hollywood. Not like you're going to see him cast as the lead for Notebook 2 or Black Panther.
Yup, he's writing and directing now. With that included I think it's up to 18 films total he's been a part of. Btw, he only got paid 65k for this role in Captain Phillips.
Its amazing how far Abdi has come, despite little experience in acting he starred in a movie with Tom Hanks and is now nominated for an Oscar. I have great reverence for you Abdi, well done
Tom Hanks: "I'll go first, but you gotta take some of this man". He is as good actor (and he is one of the best, if not the best) as he is humble! Barkhad Abdi, great acting too!
The last scene of this movie had me in absolute tears...just a phenomenal performance by Hanks when he is on the treatment table getting checked out after the ordeal is over...amazing
He played a phenomenal pirate in the movie, it was 100% convincing. The other pirates were just spot on too. The acting just set the movie off and the way they created tension. The one who said "You play...you play" he looked crazy as hell. Great movie, wish it would have gone more into what happened prior to the pirates setting out to sea.
A trained professional pirate can generally portray a pirate. They could've picked just anyone. They all look and act the same. It just happened that this one could portray it bit more vividly.
Took my 75yr old retired merchant seaman dad who was not only irish but was locked and loaded to critique the hell out of this movie. With every scene my dad went quiet. We were engrossed. So glad I got to see this movie with my Dad.
Ben Johnson : yes dude, During the failed state era, Somalis had to go to the pirate business seeing their fishing resources looted and cant do their fishing business as the looters were shooting them. They never aimed at killing seamen anywhere.

Saw it today, it was amazing! Abdi was incredible really took me by surprise, I'm not a person who gets teary watching emotional scenes in movies, but the last with Hanks gave me a knot in my throat.
Same thing here. I haven't been this emotional since 10 years back by watching a movie, just like you said..The last seen was hard to hold back the tears!
I went to see the movie Captain Phillips. Oh, boy, was it good. I can see why they offered Tom Hanks the role of Captain Richard Phillips. Because he was quite the spitting image of the man himself. Then they offered Barkhad Abdi the role of Muse the Somali pirate. He was definitely the spitting image of Muse, and they couldn't have gotten a better one than Abdi himself. Abdi deserves either Academy Award or an Oscar for his performance of best villain in "Captain Phillips" as Muse the pirate.
Tom Hanks will most definitely got nominated for an Oscar for this role. I just hope he wins it. The ending scene was some incredible acting on his part
Love these conversations! Perfect timing to relay this one. Emotions on high with this film. On a different note, opportunity is alive and well in the USA. I laughed more than I should reading this xD
Members of the crew disputed the Captain’s account of the incident.
If you haven't seen this movie... you should, it's very intense and great acting makes you forget you are watching a movie also if you open your eyes and see this in both the captain and the pirates point of view you will understand you can't just root for one side nor be against the other for both cultures have different ways of life one wanting to just deliver a simple job and the other of going to America where suppose according to he's dreams of leaving Somalia where the sun don't shine.
6:01 Tom Hanks' face is FUCKING PRICELESS!! 😂😂😂😂
Muse is a very important character in this movie he's acting is not bad

vfen Yea and as quiet and simple as he is, you would never expect that. He was totally convincing, he terrified me!
Awesome movie like like like,,,best actor Tom Hanks
Captain Phillips to Muse, who’s holding a gun to his head: You’re not a fisherman! you’re not a fisherman! Another great line, another awesome scene.
Love seeing people like barkhad doing well for themselves
That had to be such a surreal experience for Barkhad going from no acting experience to starring in a movie with Tom Hanks.
