Omar earned ALL of my trust with this video. Started collecting omnibus's... omni's? after this video came out last year. I've bought 4 books from this list (aquaman, the flash and green lantern by geoff John's, batman by snyder/capullo) loved everyone of them, thankfully my batman had the improved binding. Now even after buying 16 books this year I still look for your reviews before I buy anything. But now whenever my wife hears "this is uncanny Omar from near mint condition" she has to ask what am I buying now

GL v1 (Johns) 7. Animal Man (Morrison) 8. Doom Patrol (Morrison) 9. Aquaman 10. Batman (Snyder/Capullo) 11. Honorable Mention: Infinite Crisi So my list is very similar to yours but not into He-Man and the Garth Ennis Hellblazer didn't do it for me.
It's cool that your first DC comic was Crisis on Infinite Earths. I know what it's like to have an odd jumping-on point, because for me, it was a late 90s trade of Marvel vs DC. That was literally my introduction to both companies and their characters. Before that, I didn't even know there were two big comic companies, just that the X-Men and Batman cartoons had different art styles. I certainly know a lot more now. :)
It’s worth reading identity crisis, infinite crisis then 52 if anyone reading this is new like me, I just jumped right in never having read anything dc before and I was perfectly fine despite all the characters that show up

@@NearMintCondition Thank you for your reply! It's nice to know I'm not alone and confused concerning the release of Superboy and his dog Krypto in an omnibus. One closing thought. With the popularity of Planet of the Apes in recent years I am also very surprised that marvel comics has not released their comic book 70s adaption of Planet of the Apes based on the first two movies. Personally, I would love to see that in a mini omnibus.

Love all your suggestions Omar! Serious question Omar if you read this, I am a diehard completionist. Is JSA Omni Vol1 a self contained story or does it roll right along into vol 2? If there isn't a satisfying enough story arc end to the first volume I don't think my heart can take possibly never getting volume 2 or at least having that "hole" between 1 and 3. It's to bad because I deeply love older age and modern age comics equally and these sound so up my alley and I know I will love it and be soul crushed never owning the middle one.

This list brought to you by Geoff Johns. Thanks for the list, Omar. As always, I appreciate your perspective. I would add New Teen Titans Omnibus (Wolfman and Perez) and Justice League of America by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky (a silver age run) and Adam Strange Silver age by Gardner Fox and Carmine Infantino who has never looked so good as when he is being inked by Murphy Anderson. Gardner Fox is the Silver age Geoff Johns :). And if I was to remove and burn one omnibus on your list it would be the Superman/Batman by Loeb. The dueling dialogue boxes of Superman and Batman drove me crazy - and not in a good way.

@@NearMintCondition I'm thinking more of the Batfamily runs. With DC's announcement of the Gotham Knights game (focusing on Dick, Jason, Babs and Tim) and the Suicide Squad games, I think it might be cool topic to go into what comics readers should check out before playing the games that come out next year.
I’m not a big omni fan because my hands literally can’t hold them, but I’ve added so many to my library/hoopla list when the libraries open again. Snyder/Capullo’s Court of Owls in TPB were some of my first DC comics, so if the rest of their run is that good, I can’t even wait.
My brother has problem reading them as well since he has damaged hands. What I do is scan them with a czur book scanner unto my computer and he's able to read them off his my tv.
ShastaHawk Thats super smart. I got the DC app promo a while back for like a buck a month trial and I just used all my free time to mindlessly take screenshots on my phone to make PDFs. I probably got about a hundred and fifty and I just based the order off the omnibus contents I could find. So that’s always a strategy. The TV thing is so smart though I have to use a tablet on digital comics otherwise my eyes die
Great vid brother all the picks are spot on. Just got that He-man if they ever deside to make another animated show they need to model it after the comics for sure. The 2000's remake was great.

In regards to ivan reis, he is from brazil, so with words that begin with the letter "r" you pronounce it as a "h", as in "heis". If i translate his name correctly it appears his surname means "kings"
Interesting list. I’ve not read anything from DC in the last 20 years. Would you still recommend JSA for someone like me as the top pick? I hear you like Geoff Johns 😜 I need to get the Amanda Conner Harley Quinn book for sure. I’ve loved her stuff from back when she was doing Soulsearchers with Peter David a million years ago. She was great to talk to at conventions back then too.
I may be wrong but iirc the first two are really vintage miniseries. Im not sure they were even released by dc at the time. Think it was Mattel or something. I read just this omnibus and didn't think I missed out on anything.

Day 26278- Still waiting for Top 20 Manga 😂
I promise in September or I’m canceling the channel. :)
@@NearMintCondition now we have it hehehe
“Current continuity”
Me: laughs in death metal
Or 5G or Future State.. oh yeah it will keep happening.
I haven't read many omnibuses but I really enjoyed the Aquaman omnibus!
Thats a great one by Geoff Johns.
I see a lot of top 10 lists but as you already know there are so many good omnis what about doing a top 20 or 25 or even higher
Slightly unrelated, but I just ordered the Green Arrow omnibus by Mike Grell. I had no idea that book was going to be 1,500+ pages!
@dwyane carter Same! I was hoping that this would be split into 3 or 4 smaller omnis. I think my Green Arrow TPBs and I might have a future after all.
It's available already? I thought it wasnt supposed to be out until next month.
@@ShastaHawk it is currently available at cheap graphic novels. If you wait a few weeks, it will be available at instocktrades.
CGN had JSA omni volume 2 back in stock for a hot minute about a month ago.
Oh yeah. Who you think let them know? ;)
Thanks for making this video!!! It really helps!
Glad it was helpful!
James Tynions Rise and fall of the batmen saga in detective comics kicks both snyder and kings asses.
Yes! But if i had to go with my favorite it would be Alan Grant.
Batman run: Who is better Tom King or Scott Snyder?
Ans: Grant Morrison
Alan Grant then Dennis O’Neil followed by Chuck Dixon for me. :)
Scott Snyder is the worst
@Ryan Wilson i love Snyder's stuff
@@NearMintCondition i love them on batman especially in the 80/90s
I didn't really like Morrison's Batman, and I usually love his comics.
hey omar, can you do a top 10 comics runs/stories for the gotham knights game? i'm caught up on batman, but i guess more for the batfamily.
You want my favorite Batman runs?
@@NearMintCondition I'm thinking more of the Batfamily runs. With DC's announcement of the Gotham Knights game (focusing on Dick, Jason, Babs and Tim) and the Suicide Squad games, I think it might be cool topic to go into what comics readers should check out before playing the games that come out next year.
Nice video! I own 4 of these myself!
Right on!
It baffles me how Geoff Johns film/tv trajectory just hasn’t translated all that well, yet he’s reigns supreme when it comes to comics
I don’t think he actually had much to do with the movies, although he did write some of the flash show, which I’m not a big fan of.
There are other writers/producers on the films/tv projects. In comics, it's just him and an editor. Not so many chefs stiring the pot.
Would love to see videos about the *least* recommended for new readers.
hmmm I always think about that. But its difficult as I may end up insulting some people's favorite books. Even with my reasons.
I can always go through some stories that are collected in TPB.
Great vid brother all the picks are spot on. Just got that He-man if they ever deside to make another animated show they need to model it after the comics for sure. The 2000's remake was great.
Oh I loved the 2000 series too, my brother.
wow so huge nice collection
Big thanks
Some Honorable Mentions:
Justice League Darkseid War Saga Omnibus
Batman by Neal Adams Omnibus
Lucifer Omnibus
Deathstroke the New 52 Omnibus
Batman and Robin by Peter J Tomasi and Patrick Gleason Omnibus
Blackest Night 10th Anniversary Omnibus
Wonder Woman Omnibus by Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang
Absolute Batman The Court of Owls
I almost put Wonder Woman on here, but realized I didn't have the omnibus, just the trades.
ORNR for: JSA Virtue & Vice and Avengers Forever. Two awesome books that share an artist: Carlos Pacheco.
YES!
In regards to ivan reis, he is from brazil, so with words that begin with the letter "r" you pronounce it as a "h", as in "heis".
If i translate his name correctly it appears his surname means "kings"
Thank you.
Interesting list. I’ve not read anything from DC in the last 20 years. Would you still recommend JSA for someone like me as the top pick? I hear you like Geoff Johns 😜
I need to get the Amanda Conner Harley Quinn book for sure. I’ve loved her stuff from back when she was doing Soulsearchers with Peter David a million years ago. She was great to talk to at conventions back then too.
I like Geoff Johns a little. :) You know, I think JSA would be up your alley. oh man, Soul Searchers. I haven't thought of that book in years.
Oh yeah, I like big books and I can not lie!
You know I do.
Its like he has an advanced doctorate in comic books!
So for that He-man book I don't need books 1 and 2 for that series? Goodreads has this listed as book 3-8.
I may be wrong but iirc the first two are really vintage miniseries. Im not sure they were even released by dc at the time. Think it was Mattel or something. I read just this omnibus and didn't think I missed out on anything.
Those were the Mattel minis so you don't need them. Everything you need is in this omnibus except the Injustice crossover.
Hey, Omar! I'm brazilian and I know how hard our language is. So don't worry LOL. Ivan's last name is pronounced as "Heys"
Thank you brother.
@@NearMintCondition Don't mention it!
Damn love it again! U gonna do a New reader on non dc/marvel comics too? Looking forward to it!
Excellent idea. I can do that.
Love this video. Looking forward to the Manga one.
Coming soon!
Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Sandman, Y:Last Man on Earth. All must haves for any comic owner. Surprised these were not mentioned.
I have my Sandman in Absolute format, my Y in OHC and there is no Omnibus for Trans. But i would have mention both Sandman and Y in Omni format if I had them.
@@NearMintCondition There is a Absolute collection for Preacher, Trans. and Y.
Wouldn't you consider Absolute formats Omnibus as well? Omnibus is a collection of books in one.
Oh dear. I have 8 of those but read only 2. need to do something about my backlog...
We all do.
