Thanks LTK. I, like you. Didn't really think this one would be a great fit for me either. I put off buying it, and resisting the hype. Until later, when the first run was just about sold out. I then ordered one, and was surprise when I got it in hand. It really is a great knife. Then months later, after listening to few others, who had later gotten the CQI version. DaddyO EDC, mainly. I buckled, and ordered this second one, on Sept. 11th. The action improvement on the second one, is just nuts! I put the first one back in it's box right away, and sold it off. This knife, now. Is on a whole new level. : - ) For some who may not know, and have read this far. Spyderco Date Codes their Boxes. This latest CQI version, is Dated 'HS'.
I finally was able to get my hands on one about six weeks ago. It’s a fantastic slicer and great EDC knife, but I do wish it was the blade was slightly shorter than the current 3.6 inch. As part of Spyderco’s Continous Quality Improvement program it turns out that the newer ones have an improvement that makes them far more ‘drop shutty’. Nick Shabazz has a recent video on the subject where he disassembles a recent Kapara. For the purists that want to replicate Alistair Philips’ original Redback design, you can replace Spyderco’s dark red back spacer and buy a bright red G10 back spacer on Alistair’s website. I got my bright red back spacer in last week and personally like the contrast with the carbon. Other colours are offered as well. @@michaelrast4263 yep you're correct they added a pivot bushing . I want one but would want to make sure I had the newer one but idk how I could tell without disassembley but I'm SOL either way bc I don't have a place anywhere near me that sells quality knives 🥺
@@OsamaBinDarrel lol, I've been wanting to get one, just havent been able to order one. I want to say I'm going to TN in like may or something, so if SMKW has them in stock, I may grab one
This one of best released knife that Spyderco had in the last year or so. Feels nice in the hand a good slicer and premium materials, and that is why they are never in stock.
this is one I think should have been done in LC200N steel, as the Kapera was specifically done as a food prep knife, along the same lines as the Sydie Chef. Not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate a good design when I see one.
Not really a spyderco fan, but this one definately does it for me for some reason. Love the blade shape & grind, or maybe its the carbon fibre or the compression lock, who knows? Great review Lee my friend, take care brother 👊🤓👍
Looks like it has a lot going on for it. I like the design and features. A considerable touch out of my budget at this time though, yet I like it a lot. But I've been drinking, so....
Technically it does have a bearing. Donut style on the cqi versions like the one in this video. Never thought I'd be a Spyderco guy, but this knife, the para 3 lightweight and the manix 2 proved me wrong. Now, if the makers of my beloved Osborne knives, Benchmade, would stop their path to being the lowest value and overrated knife company I would appreciate it.

Another good offering from spyderco thanks for sharing great video bud.
I think you took me off the ledge on this one. Thanks for the video 😎👍
Really nice. Would love to see a comparison video with the BM 940.
You made no mention of the CQI version. I think this is a significant improvement.
Frank Salem That was an oversight on my part. Mine is the updated version.
Did you buy yours from WMK?
Frank Salem No I didn’t. They didn’t have any available.
Wow really amazing looking Spyderco knife!!!
I really like it, whitemountianknives rocks ! Thanks LTK
Great video man. Can’t wait till I get it. Love the channel.

Yeah, I think they added a pivot bushing or something, that make it more drop shutty

Does your kapara have the pivot bushing ? I want one but I'd like to be able to make sure it's one of the newer ones .
It is in my top five favs. Love that Kapara...

Allmost all folding knives have bearings
@@MightyRude I wouldn't go that far. Just about every case type folder doesn't. The majority of benchmade and spyderco are on washers as well.
If’n I didn’t already have a Shaman CF I’d grab one of theses...
Out of stock already.
The world's most overrated knife company. I realize that's a very controversial statement, but it's the truth.
Nah, that's Benchmade
@@karlizen4990 Good point. I forgot about Benchmade.
Lol! I made mention of benchmade in my reply. 750 bucks for a "gold class" bugout? No sir.
Looks really nice; lock is good too.
