I might catch flack from other shoe shiners, but with that Febings Saddle soap, I suggest you get it dry for a minute, wip off the excess and buff.. just that by itself will produce a dull shine.

But yes you can usually give them the benefit of the doubt unless they have other obvious signs like tattoos or patches.
In the 90's when doc martens were still made in England they were crafted so much better and even felt better. Now that they're made in China they are terrible.

Dude you really shouldve taken the red laces out of them. Certain coulored laces in docs can mean some pretty bad things in the doc community.
