So crazy that this was on my YT recommended! I recently graduated this year from my Ivy and although we have very different background and upbringing I totally understand what you're saying about having it all figured out. I literally remember my college common application being about high school stress and watching my other classmates struggle. I think what else is important to consider is that I see the school system as a stream. You start off the top of a mountain as snow, then you turn into water in a pond(school), then a stream (ms), then creek (hs), then river(college/uni), then that river leads to the ocean. It didn't hit me until I graduated but there are literally so many different ways to go once you hit the ocean and everyone's path is so unique. It's hard to see now from where you are but the world is so big that what you are worried about is so small when you get to this side in a way. I'd say you are at an advantage in the sense that you have nothing to lose, apply to a lot of places! Including safety and reaches and use your application to talk about yourself. They already expect you to change your mind a lot but they know you will stay the same. You are unfortunately correct about making sure you pick a practical major. My friend recently graduated with an arts degree and kind of regrets it because they haven't found a job yet. But hey, at least you're ahead of the curve in that sense! Keep your head up and I'm not sure if you're religious (I wasn't until HS) but going to church for me used to feel like a chore until I treated it more like meditation/thinking through my anxieties. I used to literally think worse case scenario I'll be a nun or something lol. But I hope you are finding something to relieve your stress with be it Journaling, meditation, listening to asmr, coloring, yk SOMETHING. I've seen what this kind of stress does to people and I want you to know that whatever you're going through you will survive and make it out of whatever situation you're in. I can already tell you are so thoughtful and driven to pursue the life you want that any plan you think of will be great. Comparison is the thief of joy. I hope you find something that you are proud of yourself for doing even if that's just waking up. My friends and I also tell each other all the time that "No" doesn't mean No it means next opportunity. Even when you're sad we allow ourselves to be this way for a day or two but we always pivot to the next thing. Everyday is another opportunity to make the best of our situation and sorry for the ramble but I just wanted to make sure you knew you're going to be okay.
awww tysm you don't know how much I appreciate your comment! I love the ocean analogy, and also no way I actually do listen to asmr really often LOL. thank you for all of your advice, your words mean so so much to me :)
@victoriainlimbo I subbed so I will def be cheering you on haha. You remind me so much of me and all my friends and we just graduated uni omg. Find comfort in knowing it's competitive for everyone and that in the end you should only compare yourself to your goals. The hardest lesson I have learned is that I was the cause of my biggest stress and anxiety because I compared myself to others. If your worst case scenario is taking a gap year or doing community College because you are still unsure that's totally okay! Any decision you can rationalize to yourself you can rationalize to whatever college admission essay prompt is out there. Keep learning what's out there and find ppl online who seem to be in places u think are cool and ask them for their advice. Most people love taking time out of their day to help others (case in point haha) you never know what kind of insight or tips you may get. Life gets so much better I promise ❤
I think i found an underrated channel, since i may be a few or some (4) years younger i still feel you getting a career is just not it, i feel that we need something petter one career you tell me will continue in my whole life? no i want more i want to try everything a little to little a single job or passion cant be set why cant we explore i dont want a single passion i am really poetically passionate about passion it is sometimes life to be honest but we need more we cant be stable to one kind of options as doc, lawyers etc etc my family dosent care about my grades rn but in 10th they actually do! WHY CANT WE ROMANTICIZE LIFE LIKE LETS LIVE HAPPILY YALLL !! LETS LIVE LIKE A FAIRYTALE! (and ofcourse it wont be possible in a life like this we are expected to be best of best create toxic competition that tears you down until your last the little desicion you make still is regreted by you, Love dosen't exist anymore world is chasing towards validation) so anyways i love you channel now here, from the start!
yes! I feel like high schoolers are so focused on college apps that they rarely have time to truly explore the world; the competitive culture here can be really frustrating. tysmm for your support
