    What's so good about old movies is that there's decency in them, something that has been lost today.

      I made up a music playlist for the '60s and '70s. There's about 2700 songs on there and out of all those songs there are only 2 cuss words in the whole list. One of them is Country Joe singing at Woodstock, "Give me an F."

    This was the first year in my life I wasn't in the mood for Christmas, and I've been through 58 of them. I hung no lights, sang no songs, and saw no family. It didn't feel like a wonderful life. By chance I woke to this movie, by chance next year will be better. Merry Christmas, y'all, and a Grand New Year too.

      Dom I know you won't believe this but the good old days are now in spite of this damn Covid mess. I was born in the 1940's you know WWII. Back then things were really bad as the world had turned to shit. But I will say this todays world and its people have EVERYTHING but are too dumb to enjoy it. I agree 2020 was bad news. People today are depressed. The current global mood could all be summed up in a few words; Western civilization has lost it's GOD and once GOD goes bye-bye.

I've been Saved the whole life since twenty, found Christ right after the military then my wife, been very good after that, after about twenty years getting over the military that is. Don't be careless in this Life, God has Gone To A Lot of Trouble to connect with people, you for instance!

    I've seen this quite wonderful film many times. It never ceases to amaze me. The three wallets thrown out of a window, with two returned through honesty and integrity have been a stalwart reminder in my life. There is a mansion in Manhattan, till standing, that I associate with the window from which the wallets were thrown in the film. I go by it every year when I can, at Christmastime, and in my minds eye see the three gentlemen, through the lace curtains, preparing to toss out the wallets, and of course I know Madam Ouspenskaya is there too. It is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Hence the power of a good film well made.

    • @marbleman52
      @marbleman52 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Sameoldfitup....Even though Tennessee Williams certainly doesn't need anyone needing to validate and support his thoughts, I will most certainly agree with him on this. Our memories are what gives our life continuity, and just like the framework of a house, so too are our memories the framework of our lives and as we accumulate memories, they become the rest of the house and make it Home. Loosing our memories is what makes Alzheimer's such a tragic and despicable disease. To watch someone's home crumble around them is so very sad.

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I have a book that explores the theory that before our soul is placed into our body at the time of conception, we knew all the secrets of the universe. But once being born, we need to learn all over again, but only up to a point. Then, when we die and if we are lucky enough to get to Heaven, we have all the knowledge again and apply it to our experiences here on earth. As for memories, its all true. As a middle aged bachelor who's immediate family has mostly died and is now all alone and in poor health, memories are what sustain me. Its truly a sad thing to have done so much in life and met so many people, yet none of them cared enough to be your friend. As for Alzheimer's, that's also very true. I am going through it with my 90 year old father at present. I had to put him in an assisted living a few months back. And with the virus, there are only outdoor visits allowed and with the cold weather, I have not seen him since before Thanksgiving. Physically, he is healthy which is what makes it all the worse. Just last December, he was still shoveling snow by hand. How many 89 year old men do you know that can do that? And it was a blessing because physically, I cannot.

    • @marbleman52
      @marbleman52 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@retroguy9494 That book you have seems like an interesting book to read that discusses the Soul and knowledge and the Universe. I also have a very interesting book that also talks about our memories and our Soul knowing a lot of things before we are given a Human body to live in. Are you familiar with this: "That which has been is what will be, and that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the Sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, "See, this is new"? It has already been in ancient times before us. There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of things to come by those who will come after." This came from Ecclesiastes 1:9-11.This fits very well with what you talked about. Our Soul had been around long before it found itself with a Human body, but when we are born, we cannot remember the former things that our Soul knew; at least not normally. But it can be done to a certain extent. In Psalm 77:10-11, David says " This is my anguish; but I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High. I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old." Yep, there is so much more going on besides just what our 5 senses tells us.

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marbleman52 Yes, I am familiar with Ecclesiastes. I have always thought outside the box, meaning beyond the limited scope of what our fellow human in general thinks of our bodies and our souls and the limited parts they want to pick from the Bible. One of my favorite sayings is "history always repeats itself just with a little different twist." Take the Coronavirus for instance. 102 years ago, the Spanish influenza pandemic was just as bad if not worse. My grandmother was a little girl at the time and told me horror stories about it (I could listen to her stories by the hour). What really hurts me is that the scientists have learned from that but many people don't want to follow the simplest of guidelines and restrictions.
