Yes Santa is loosely based off Odin from Norse mythology, the type of clothing Santa wears with furs was also loosely inspired from the Lapp/Sami shamans of northern Europe who would bring food, recourses, gifts, sing & spread joy to those in their village. I liked the twist of Santa being a former viking (Nicomumd the Red) and give us a backstory for him. My theory is that he wears red to remind himself of his bloodstained past, why he reformed & brings gifts to people. Great reaction by the way. Happy winter solstice! ✌️🎄❄️🎅

My son and I saw this in theaters and were cracking up. It was such a fun time. It reminds me of the kind of off the wall concept you’d find in an 80s or 90s movie. I’m glad some people still have the balls to take a chance on stuff like this.

    • @ashleyneku5432

I hate having to point this out, but these types of gonzo films with weird concepts are way more abundant now than any decade before. Independent studios and advances in filmmaking technology and the accessibility of the equipment makes it easier than ever for almost anybody to make a film they want, and studios are endorsing more weird films in general. In Fabric, Cocaine Bear, Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway, Palm Springs, Tenet, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, etc. These are all just films since 2020 with pretty weird premises and sometimes even weirder executions. In the 80s and 90s, very few, possibly next to none of these would have a chance at a studio budget to maintain any level of quality. Getting actors or actresses to sign onto them back then? Nearly impossible. The weird films you remember from those years are specifically standouts because there wasn't as much competition for "that one weird film where that grown woman from Back to the Future is attracted to a space alien curiously looking like a small man in a duck suit."
There's more insanely weird, fun films these days, but the market is so saturated that it is harder than ever to pick them out of the crowd. By and large they are stranger, take more chances, have more quality and have much better acting than their predecessors. Not to say they're better or more memorable, but the whole "movies were better/weirder/funner in the 80s/90s/00s" is a disservice to how far filmmaking has advanced for the types of directors and writers who were inspired by those decades to make their own weird, wonderful films in response. This entire film here is an homage to Die Hard, and it's fantastic that something like Die Hard can lead to it.
Edit: I also want to point out they're getting more recognition than ever before. The last film to win Best Picture featured a fight scene wherein the win condition was unplugging two men's anuses. That doesn't win anything in the 80s, guaranteed.

They tried with Cocaine Bear. But the people who made that movie weren't competent, which is almost always the case. Violent Night had people capable enough to almost make it great. All the family members sucked so bad, on every level. I didn't like their casting, or dialogue, or motivations, or faces. But they were just serviceable enough to make it still a good movie.
