- To honour Carl Weathers' tragic death, we put together some of our favourite moments from his iconic role in Happy Gilmore.
Carl Weathers, the Rocky franchise's Apollo Creed and star of films including Predator and Happy Gilmour has died aged 76. He died in his sleep at his Los Angeles home on Thursday (1 February), his manager, Matt Luber, confirmed on Friday (2 February).
What is Happy Gilmore about?
Happy Gilmore is a 1996 American sports comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan and produced by Robert Simonds. It stars Adam Sandler as the title character, an unsuccessful ice hockey player who discovers a newfound talent for golf. When Happy learns that his grandmother is going to lose her house, he decides to enter the golf tournament to win the prize money to save her home. The film also stars Modern Family's Julie Bowen, Christopher Macdonald and Carl Weathers.

My favorite part was when Happy showed up the next morning and he asks Chubbs why a big guy like him didn’t play football and he says his mother wouldn’t sign the permission slip because she thought it was too dangerous.

We all learned that from the movie Forrest Gump. Sally Field played the part of Forrest’s mom who passed away when she said death is just a part of life.
“There is no tomorrow!……there is no tomorrow!” Best line delivered by Carl.
The transition from poking him in the shoulder with the fake hand to pulling out the eyeball that he apparently just always carries around always makes me laugh. RIP Carl!

RIP Carl Weathers. Another legend taken from us. My favorites of his work are in Happy Gilmore as Chubbs, Predator as Dillon, and Rocky movies as Apollo Creed, arrested development as himself. At least he went peacefully in his sleep.

It was Adam Sandler's idea to make him have one hand in this movie. He spun a yarn in his head where Dillon actually survived his predator encounter, came back to the US, changed his identity and made up a fake story of how he lost his hand lol. RIP Carl Weathers, loved every movie you were in.
