    First off, have a REAL NEED for a dozer before buying one, they are expensive to maintain and repair. To give you an idea of how much, an average D6 runs over $20 an hour just for undercarriage wear. Add fuel, service, and other mechanical wear, you're talking $40 an hour.
    If the transmission, the engine, or a final drive suddenly needs rebuild, figure $12 - 20K each. And trust me, any one of the above can come apart as fast as blowing a belt on a snow machine. If the U/C wears out while you own it, figure $25k+ for a rebuild, and don't figure you will recoupe that expense in the sale.
    Then how do you plan to move it around? This isn't something you throw on a fifth wheel trailer behind an F350. If your thinking you have all these little jobs to do here and there, unless you have access to a lowboy, you will quickly spend more hauling it around than you buy it for. A D3 or D4 C series Cat would make more sense, they can be moved with the above setup if you're carefull. Even more usefull is a rubber tracked skid loader, they can perform amazing amounts of work.
    Then,.... no offense intended, but operating one of these isn't as easy as it looks. A good cat skinner will do more in a couple hours than an above average joe will do in a day & vsvs it sometimes takes a good operator all day to fix the issues a novice creates in a couple hours.
    You want to play with a dozer, pick a task in mind to accomplish, call your local Cat dealer and rent one, have it delivered, and hope you get what you were planning to do done in a weekend.
    After that, hire a pro who owns the equipment needed to do the job and talk them into letting you play for a while.
    If you still must own something like this, call your local dealer and pay them for a full T/A inspection so you have a little idea of what you are getting into befoer spending your money.

    I see a lot of hate LOL. I have owned a D6D since 1999. The D6D , D8K and D9H are the best dozers Cat has ever made (I have owned all three). Parts are readily availble at any cat or aftermarket store.

    Buy it and use it to plow in the winter and build a track for atv rzr and snowmobiles. Plus with the race at hay days coming up this could make a convenient at home practice track :)

    I'd say no because of how much they cost per day to run. we had them at work and they would burn through a full tank (250 litres I think).

    Would it turn into something like the jet? You have to think along the lines of : would it be used 10 times and then when you realize it cost too much to repair what will you do

      +PowerModz tracks work great for pushing snow like in that video but, in that video, there wasn't much for ice, but from experience, ice and steel don't work well together. So I don't think that you would have a problem with slipping on ice, so in that sense, would work just fine. Would DEFINITELY buy that dozer if the price is in your price range.

    Have a D6 and a D8 at my job less than 3000 hours on one almost 5,000 on the other in the last 3 weeks the two machines together have cost my boss $24K. think about what you're doing before you do it. that's a very expensive investment if you don't have the work to back up what your spending especially if something breaks

    • @hankandtilly
      @hankandtilly 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Last a year or two? You aren't around machinery much are you.... Age has Very little to do with condition. Hours are what maters.
      I'd buy it in a second, ever high hours as long as it was cheap.

    • @snowblowerman5115
      @snowblowerman5115 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      back woods LOL year has absolutely nothing to do with how long it will last

    • @jaredfournier2077

    • @snowblowerman5115
      @snowblowerman5115 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      back woods I doubt a 12 year old like your self is around heavy machinery everyday. If you were you would know its more of maintenance hours and etc that matters in how long the machine will last.

    Don't waste you time my dad n I run heavy equitment, we know quite a bit bout that stuff. It will take a lot of work to fix plus trying to find parts if it breaks. You would be money ahead by just renting out a bobcat with tracks, plus you would get a ton more work done a lot faster...
    My suggestion would be to run the other way!!
