We hope you enjoyed exploring the incredible Perch House, where pH+ Architects have beautifully balanced dramatic views with private, intimate interiors. The seamless connection between the natural landscape and suburban surroundings is truly inspiring and makes this home a perfect example of indoor-outdoor living. The glass floor shot at 1:00 was trippy. Very cool & unique detail. Beautiful setting. Beautiful home. Great work, & job well done!

It is so nice to see the sandstone used in this way - it instantly reminded me of Sydney's more historic buildings and acts like a built bridge between the ancient rock and the modern concrete. It is hard to celebrate the design skill and ingenuity when it is available to so few - I am a lifelong renter and feel lucky even to have a home - but I do appreciate the efforts to bring nature on to the roof and to preserve the crag as much as possible. It would be so wonderful if these projects were scaled for sustainability and available to us all.

I completely agree! The use of sandstone in this design beautifully connects the ancient rock with modern elements, reminiscent of Sydney's historic buildings.

I'm glad to find this comment! I love the house, it's SO beautiful. The juxtaposition of the raw and elegance, the streamlined, minimalist modernity... But to me it almost seems wrong that there's this incredibly decadent house that's completely inaccessible to 99.99% of us.

You know for the past couple years now TH-cam hides the thumbs down ratings to accommodate the snowflakes (people whose self-esteem is tied to public approval/disapproval). Administrators can see the thumbs down, but not the public.

At last an architect who does not feel the need to do the extremely hypocritical but recently ubiquitous land acknowledgement. Thanks for that!

      Hi Dave,
Maybe you have worked hard & had a very successful & fruitful business & personal life and you develop a life altering illness or have a life altering accident through no fault of our own.
      Maybe the ramps have purpose.
      Cheers,

@@lesleymcmullen961 you mean it is necessary because the owner may have mobility issues? I think in that case just buy a single story home with no change in elevation

@@lesleymcmullen961 Just use an elevator that takes up 1/16th of the space that this vastly oversized concrete ramp takes up.
I fully concur with daveb, really not a fan of the ramps.
The rest of the house is stunning but using up half the front garden for a concrete ramp is silly.

There is a lot to like with this house. The views, the interior arrangement and design, the unusual swimming pool placement. Though I can't get over what to me looks over-complicated "privacy" elements towords the street and neighbours. I think an even narrower placement and wood as a primary "cladding" would have produced a more natural calming look from the street as well as out of the house - especially if mixed with garden / plant elements.
This ramp up to the roof top maybe technically needed or wanted, but the very light coloured yet heavy construction material emphasizes this feature too much. To me it looks like a maze of "gangways" that serves an apartment house of 5 floors.
Overall everything seems slightly oversized, the way up, the privacy protection, and the sea front.

Agree, the only thing available is ugly , badly made homes. There should be stylish and functional homes that are affordable for all. Not on this level but using some of the design elements from these expensive home, with more affordable “ materiality” .

Why is it so many architects love modernist boxes and cubist structures? There is SO much more to architecture than these yet they are always featured? God awful boring and uninspiring designs that are out of sync with humanity and nature alike.
