Never spray them it damages the silicone you flour them then shake the flour out after a few uses or seasons and you don’t need to do anything. Also if you hold it up to a light and you can see through it, then throw it out

    • @HeyLeFay
      @HeyLeFay ปีที่แล้ว +29

@@jaycee533 Silicone reacts with oil and it causes the silicone to degrade. The changing color is a side effect of chemical reaction taking place. There is no way to undo the reaction, you've gotta just throw the mould away and get a new one. And avoid excess oil in the future.

@@shizukagozen777 No,l think Donna may well mean what she wrote.
I suspect you don't know much about baking,or cooking in general.
Many pots, pans, moulds specifically say they don't need to be washed between usage, only wipe clean, depending what is cooked in them.
I have only one silicone cake pan, which l seldom use as l also have metal pans l prefer and do wash it,but washing can cause damage to some materials because of the detergents.
It makes silicone harden l believe, thereby shortening its life.

Professional baker here! Another tip is to add a small amount of water to a baking tray on the rack below your cakes. So long as your temperature is correct and all the heat isn’t being directed to the top of your cake, the higher humidity will help prevent the crust forming too early in the baking process, when the crust forms too early, the raw batter in the center of the cake will expand upwards causing a large amount of cracking, and a very large dome to form. Smaller dome = less waste to cut off.

    • @Sugarologie

@@Sugarologie no problem! It’s actually the exact same reason why you’re supposed to steam bread while baking it. Once it’s hit it’s “Apex” (aka the farthest it’ll rise before developing a crust” you can take the tray of water out (or vent the steam, if you’re using a bread oven) to help develop more color on your cake if desired.

    • @stillnotstill

Does the same thing happen with fragrance free soap?
In the USA and Canada "unscented" means that it can contain a masking fragrance in order to make it smell "neutral". "Fragrance free" means no fragrance of any kind. But fragrance free products can sometimes smell like the base products. But my guess is they wouldn't transfer smells to the silicone in the same way as a scented cleaning product.

Silicone molds don't need coating. Your recipe needs work to properly to cook in it and that's it. Don't be stupid either, a super moist cake will come apart if you aren't gentle pulling it out. That's just you being a bull in a China shop.
Silicone is the hardest thing ever to make mistakes with as a pastry chef. Just don't go over 435 in the oven with them and they are S tier material. Shitty they are unsustainable though.

Silicon is not a thermoplastic, it would burn instead of melting but you can confidently use it in your oven since it can't even go as high as the kind of temperature needed to burn silicon.
You bake a cake at around 200°c while tipical silicone can handle 280°c without problems, some silicone molds can even handle 350+°c and have molten metal poured in them.
If you ever have a doubt read the manual that come with it, it should tell you the temperature range supported by your mold.

Candle silicone is only good up to 250 due to sugars hard crystal stage being 234. A 250 mold is plenty considering heat loss when moving your candle material. But not at all good for making even custard.
