The town of Bhavani is well known for its handlooms and its hardworking army of weavers. It is home to the finest and the most durable carpet in the world- The Jammakkalam.
What flourished as a tradition and an art form for 200 years, is now facing a crisis. The average age of a Jammakkalam weaver is over 50 years, making the future of this craft a big question mark. This film is to throw light on the current status of this art and its artisans.

@@BIGshortFILMS to be frank i dont know that bhavani is famous for jamakalam eventhough i am staying just under 100kms from bhavani. This makes me feel shame and also makes me to buy jamakalam frm them and also recommend this to my known persons! Thanks once again!

Nicely shot film but not a fan of Sakthivel, we tried to work with him on some contemporary designs for an exhibition, spent a lot of time back and forth to Bhavani, he took our money and didn't deliver, really bitter experience. There are other very honourable weavers in Bhavani doing great work, he is not actually trying to save the craft, rather interested in the media attention and 'getting ikea orders'. Wish this documentary focused on the real weavers and gave them the airtime rather than Sakthivel.
We people first need to know our own value of products and need to support them by buying their product at their profit prize & need to spread our proud culture to many 🙏🏻 respect
