So I was at the Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles when Jodie was there in 2023, and I attended the Big Finish panel (who is there every year). I asked Jason Haigh-Ellery which characters and actors they wanted to get, and Jodie was on the list. He told us that it was the fans' warm reception at a previous Gallifrey One and a five minute in-person meeting at that convention that finally persuaded Christopher Eccleston to give Big Finish a chance after years of saying "no." Jason then looked at us and essentially gave us the task of doing the same thing for Jodie that weekend. I'm glad to hear it worked!
The audio you did, The Collateral of Ivanhoe, still counts in my eyes as the first Audio Adventure for 13. The Prelude of what's to come on Big Finish with 13 and Yaz. So Excited for this. :D
Jodie and Mandips energy in the Big Finish Podcast was incredible. Cannot wait to hear their stories soon.
I think it’s interesting that this will be a longer single series than her actual TV seasons were. I’m most exited to see some interesting standalone episodes, I think that’s where Big Finish can really excel despite them making more money from their event crossover things. I hope they can capture some of that series 11/12 vibe. I don’t know what that would mean because I’m not sure I could define it myself but I’m sure they’re up to it. Most of all I hope they are fun and varied.

So glad we’re getting more of the 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker was always great even if the some of episodes weren’t.
Good to have Mandip back as well, hopefully Graham, Ryan and Dan could join in the future.
The best part about this announcement is that it was announced on my birthday 🥳 so that was the best Doctor Who related news/gift I could’ve received
I hope since we're going for the standalone stories and not Boxsets this time, that there are small storylines or reoccurring elements that longtime listeners can follow but aren't intrusive for those who'll dip in and out, basically like the Sontaran stories we got for their 40th anniversary this year.
They said she didn't enjoy her time as the Doctor. They said she hated the fans. Instead, she returns for Big Finish faster than any other New Who lead
I'm really excited for this. I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of her time on-screen, but I look forward to see what Big Finish does with her. Having the TARDIS team be just 13 and Yaz is already a big step in the right direction imo

I hope we get a good John Dorney audio with Jodie. He's my favorite writer at Big Finish so far, and a lot of his stuff is just really good
Next box set I wanna see is the Shalka Doctor with Richard E Grant, Sophie Okenedo and Derek Jacobi.
I also wanna see John Simm's Master get his own box set.
Prediction: The Ninth Doctor will appear in Call Me Master and be the incarnation "O" met in the past.

@@ZDProds-c8pI've watched every era of the show, and there are things that I enjoy about all of them, but the 13th Doctor's is by far one of my favourites, in part because of the way it incorporates elements from all of the preceding eras in a way that I personally don't think the other eras of the revival did. We don't have to like the same things, but as someone who loves the show, I can see that you feel as strongly about it as I do. It's fine if you don't enjoy all of it. Which eras are your favourites?

I'm optimistic about 13 in big finish, I think it could be genuinely good, big finish has a good history of making "poorly treated" doctors better
I hope we get a big multi Doctor story with Doctor's 4-10, 13 and Fugitive. I know we just got Once and Future, but Tom is obviously getting on now, so I'd love for him and Jodie to interact together while they can
I was thinking the potential of a Fugitive and War doctor story would be so interesting! The meeting of the two least doctory-doctors, i feel they could teach and grow so interestingly.
I adore 13 so I'm very excited for this. Also, the description screams "They were roommates!"
I really hope the 13 audios are, for the most part, specific to her era. I'd love for them to overlap and connect with the Master and Fugitive series' in some way, to make this whole additional web of off screen 13 era content. But I'd never thought of getting Bradley, John and Tosin back, which I'd love to see (hear). As somebody who loved Swarm, Azure and the Fugitive Doctor, it'd be great to expand on that some more. Like an extended, more in depth version of Once, Upon Time. But that's just me and what I like and whatever they do, I will be listening
13 sounded like a very strong character on paper. After 12 finished his arch, he became an optimistic, act now think later, warm and unassuming tinkerer who had an increasingly hard time hiding her dark past. I thought as the episodes were coming out, "well, I guess we'll have to wait for Big Finish to figure out what Yaz and the Doctor did between seasons. Maybe someday, some writer will try to flesh out this love story."
We didn't have to wait that long. I'm looking forward to what a different group of writers can do with those ideas.

Personally i think maybe wirh the 13th doctor adventures they could take place in the time gap between revolution of the daleks and the Halloween apocalypse after ryan and grahmn leave and before dan joins them

The only thing I'd like more is a surprise extra story (like in the Eleventh Doctor Chronicles run) so her first full season is 13 episodes.
I think Big Finish is doing a series where River somehow gets resurrected after The Library, so ik kind of terrified we're going to get a Thirteen/River/Yaz love triangle at some point soon.
Let's hope at least some of 13's stories will be written by John Dorney.

While I don't want their performances to be any different (I don't want River to treat the Doctor differently), having Yaz involved could bring something interesting. How did Mickey put it, "The Missus and the Ex"?
Anyhow, Thirteen is one of my favourite Doctors, and I hope this is the first steps of a long journey. Jodie had so much stacked against her during her run, and I genuinely hope she gets the chance to shine.
And since she did travel without the Fam for a while, I'm also kinda hoping she gets some solo stories and maybe a few new companions- I always though she could have had a few adventures with Noor and Ada.
After seeing Tosin Cole in Supacell, a new Netflix series. I went and watched him in 62nd Street.
Both of his performances were incredible. It makes me really upset that Ryan was so woefully underwritten. I hope Big Finish can resolve that and bring him back soon.
I'm kinda surprised Sacha wasn't announced for Once and Future, given that... To not spoil, things happened and I'd argue the Master's story in it was never actually concluded, not to mention we saw two incarnations of the Master, neither of which went by that title so it's like we haven't had vanilla Master in this huge celebration.
Super excited for the 13 and Yaz audios! Can't wait to see how BF writers expend on their characters and relationship, and I agree that for the first few boxsets it'll probably just be the two of them - but still hoping for them to eventually cross River, as well as maybe some other Doctors for a multiDoctor story :)
I would like the box set to eventually delve into The Division more. Really give us the low down on this black ops division of Time Lord society and maybe even give more on The Timeless Child to give the closure it needs or even bring it to a story that potentially everyone will absolutely love. I personally like The Timeless Child and I would love to hear more about it in Big Finish.
I expect better written stories as is the tradition with big finish.
Just finished a rewatch of Series 11, and now this? Definitely hyped for more 13th Doctor adventures, especially with Yaz onboard the TARDIS. While it was fun to hear the 9th Doctor audios, you did feel that lack of a companion. I think Yaz and 13 will definitely be the highlight. Honestly I advocate for not being super restrained to the canon. I'm not sure if there's some kind of stipulation or rule or anything about the BBC and what Big Finish can do Canon wise, but I'd say let's push for more "Thasmin" kind of content. Nothing too crazy, but that storyline was really only hinted at in the show. I know that in Canon you couldn't do too much with it, but come on. I think it could lead to some very interesting stories

There have been a few boxsets where he's voiced by Jacob Dudman which are pretty good.
However, no news of Peter Capaldi reprising the role.
The only thing I'm hoping they won't do with Thirteenth is changing her personality and contradictions for the sake of trying to appeal to a certain part of the fans who wanted she had behaved differently in certain situations.
I would like them to stick with her character in both merits and flaws, because that's for me what makes this Doctor so interesting to write about.
Just like they did with the Seventh Doctor, basically: instead of covering his extremely manipulative persona, they focused particularly on that flaw and showed us a dark Doctor, with relative implications.
Not like they did with the Sixth Doctor, who was changed and smoothed a little in terms of character and has become a softer version of what we saw in his TV series.
I'd prefer Thirteenth to be her, as shown in her three TV series, with her own merits and flaws, rather than some sort of "revisited" and "sanitised" version of the character.
I imagine they’ll just characterise 13 in the same manner that her novels and comics have portrayed her, where they just embrace the more wholesome aspects of the character from series 11.
Completely disagree. I'd say Six has only become so beloved because of Big Finish, which kept the quality aspects of his character and leaving out the unbearable ones, giving him the character development he would've received if Michael Grade hadn't forced JNT's hand to fire Colin.
Also, Thirteen's personality is incredibly inconsistent in her TV run, so Big Finish will probably be able to provide her with a consistent one that feels like one character, rather than 3 different ones.
Well 6th wasn't changed in personality really, he was just given better writing. He's still the same as on TV but if anything changed it was the emphasis of certain bits. There was still mad arrogance, but not looking down on others as it could sometimes come off, but more like "I'm just amazing and you should know this" kinda way that's more fun than being a jerk with it. He's still a jerk from the baddies perspective I'm sure. I hope I'm describing this well. Anyway, I think 13th will be exactly as on screen with just better stories.
@@EditedAF987I hope they'll include also her irritability towards Yaz when she tries to be pushy with her, the tendency to hide her true self behind a smiling facade and the moral grey attitude against villains.
Otherwise, they might as well not bothered in bringing her back. Those are the interesting parts...!

Like, one of the things I still see brought up is the fact that for some people she was both okay and not okay in killing, like there was no difference in context between the times in which she chose to behave in one way rather than the other: she was mad when villains were killed after they surrended or were unarmed, but was okay with it if they were hostile and kept in willingly cause distress. It's called conditional pacifism.
That's the kind of nuances people just pretend weren't there, when you can materially search and find in specific scenes, repeated multiple times across her tenure.
And a character is also their unbearable aspects; without those, you can't really say it's the same character at all.
I'm glad I am into BF now because it's hard to justify buying a bunch of the 9ths stuff retroactively but now I can buy these in one go and just get them in the post throughout the year
Usually they give doctors stories with aliens they never had in there era I'm gonna predict a ice warriors story maybe a silurian story and 100% getting a river story
big finish really out there jumping between series in finales making it as hard to listen to in order as big event comic crossovers are to read in order.

I'm just hoping for good standalone stories.
The fact 13 is finally about to get a brilliant run is exciting.
I order almost everything from BF but I did not order Fugitive Doctor or Call me Master, because I didn't care for either character, However, I will be buying the 13th Doctor Adventures. Really wish they were doing a box set format though.
If I like the treatment of Fugitive in Once & Future I may change my mind on that, but I don't think I can be won over enough by the last Master, I really dislike the return to un-nuanced villainy of the 80s.
Not a good thing that Big FInish is hiring a Zionist. Ugh. Didn't they fire the transphobe Master? Thought they were better than that.
I've always been against having a female doctor, and Chibnall's writing/showrunning was so consistently disappointing that I really disliked 13's era. I'm interested to see if Jodie's Big Finish run brings me around on her.
His showrunning and writing were great, in my opinion. I hope you enjoy her audios.
