FYI the elevator on 1:54 actually is the most stable kind of elevator in Malaysia. It's called "Cargo lift" which is often use by workers for carrying heavy equipment and tools.Those plywood you saw in it is for preventing scratches from those equipment and tools. It's totally 100% safe to use. In fact most of us use it to avoid crowded main elevator.

When in Singapore, the lifts were boarded up by removalist. The removalist usually have had to provide large bond to the owner of the building, thus the need to protect the lift (and bond). I am sure the lift was working perfectly.

Both sites worked out great and not a bother from any staff at all. Several days later I bumped into your video on KL caves and discovered we stayed at the same apartment and went after the same sunrise and had the same challenges, a closed elevator. After trying the alternative elevator route I came down and the security removed the maintenance barrier at the elevator and I made it just in time.
Yeah.... A very nice place to visit... Been there few times, and enjoyed. KL and surrounding thoroughly... Genting Highlands, Malacca, Penang etc... Must revisit... Nice...

I like shooting a sunrise a lot more. The light is much softer and normally a little less people are around! Great video from a great city I been once - but I was not really interested in photography a few years ago. Means for me: I have to visit KL again with my camera and tripod!

I managed to get sharp 0.6 second exposure using one of those red pillows you sat on to secure my camera. Worked like a dream and did not cause the security people to get hysterical... ;-)
These are really enjoyable but if you want to have some additional fun turn on the closed captioning. It's on auto and really comes up with some classic translation. Finding the view through all the construction showed a great deal of patience!
2.05 the elevator was not in bad condition.. it's covered by plywood to protect it from screching.. it's used for moving heavy things like furniture, machine and all stuff when someone movein or moveout from the apartment.. in this case the elevetor used to carry the construction materials as shown in 2.29..

The elevator scene at 2:07 is not stripped down to the bones. These are large plywood planks put inside the elevator to protect the surface of the decorative interior when there are large heavy items to be moved, for example home appliances and furnitures. Usually it is a sign of renovation works being done; otherwise it is what we in Malaysia call a "cargo-lift" or "firefighter's elevator" (Bomba lift), it is the toughest elevator around the building. Don't you have that from where you come from?
Eila, thanks for that tip for the photo pills app, it's great I'm hoping to try some milky way photos tonight so its going to help 🤞 it stays clear after 2.30 am unfortunately it's a full moon tomorrow night but the moon set time here is 2.30am so I'm hoping between then and 4am I might get something.

Those internal elevator covered by plywood is simply protecting the finishes of the glossy stainless steel surface avoid scratches while mobilising the construction stuff. I'm sure you've noticed kind of construction work on going up there right? Some of the contractors might cut off the control of the elevator automated door to ease their work, moving stuff up and down.

I try to find it first myself. If that doesn't work, or I find a locked door, I politely ask for permission from the building manager or security. :)
