After so many years of ownership, feels good to see a fairly recent review of this car. Self import mine from Australia to Malaysia in 2014 and still drives great.
Very cool review. I smile every time I get into my 2012 TSX Sport Wagon. With 72k on the clock, it drives and feels like a brand new car, and certainly exceeds the build quality of any Hondas I have owned since my first Prelude in 1983. I like the paddle shifters for engine braking to hear that wonderful Honda 4-banger sound....glorious!
Props to your videos man, makes me love my CU2 6spd manual even more than I already do. And yes the modulo body kit on them are fire, which I don't think I've seen a manual in apart from mine in NZ. I Appreciate the videos
Got one myself a while back, 6MT K24 EX with the Modulo package. Simply fell in love with this car. Navi while not great is workable, sound system is very capable and the interior is really comfortable. The best thing about it though, while not the fastest thing on the road when you get on the highways it's like riding a bullet train. The comfort on long trips is unmatched.
It's fantastic...with a manual. I did not like the automatic in my CU1. Because the gears were too long, and the downshifting was inconsistent. For just coasting around though, what it was made for, the AT is alright. But it takes all of the fun out of the car, so if that's what you want, get a manual.
Cu2 is my 5th Honda/acura and it’s so far my favorite as a daily, the double wishbone makes it feel like a more premium car and the k24 while underpowered for racing actually has a good torque curve for daily driving, 150k miles on my 2013 tech and still get 33-37 mpg highway on roadtrips using premium fuel

Honda Accords in general are just such good all rounders. I have never been in a Accord I didn't like. The CD6 SiR, CF4 SiR-T, CL1 Euro R, CL9 Type S, CL7 Euro R, CU2 Euro S and lastly CP3 V6L. I can't wait to see your video on the diesel one and also will you consider doing a video on a hybrid Accord?
I always wanted to drive the 2.2L diesel Accord (EUDM). They’re very hard to find in manual, even in the UK; but the automatic diesel models are also kinda hard to find, just less harder to find. I’m lucky to live in the US, where the USDM Honda Accord’s are loved in the V6 form. Most people, including me, will snatch up the manual models without hesitation. A lot of them are now really beat up and even harder to find in clean condition. But if you truly care for the car, you’ll go the lengths to properly rebuild and maintain it to restore the car to proper shape.
I have a 2013 2.2 idtech manual (uk). The engine is almost petrol car quiet, pulls very well and the 6 speed manual is a gem (I believe it was taken from the S2000). It didn't sell very well in the UK probably due to being close to the price of the 3 series and A4 and the English will always go for the kerb appeal of a badge rather than refined reliable engineering.
@@garytreez I always wondered whether I would like an automatic or manual diesel, but I do like in the US, so most hardcore performance diesel setups are done on Dodge trucks with Cummins engines, etc. I do know that modern automatic transmissions are superior, but I would probably die for a diesel engine setup that was paired to a DCT automatic. Are the English really that sad about not getting “rice burner” imports, for the sake of face value? Jesus…. I’m Asian American, and yes, we’re known for going with Asian technology as well, but we’d theoretically go with American tech, if it wasn’t semi-problematic as well. Newer car manufacturing is starting to become problematic in tons of areas though. God forbid, some random patriotic American buys and supports a Japanese car maker, and they’re shit on for not acting “American”. I’m sure the same “logic” applies there in the UK, with all of the conservative right wing extremism politic stuff…. Anyhow, foreseeably, I will probably rely on Toyota/Lexus for a while, as they’ve always been reliable for me. I’m just not as familiar with their platforms.
@@isnowyazn the UK is very much about image in the main. They are not concerned that some of the Mercedes-Benz models have renault engine blocks for example, as long as the perception of driving a Mercedes is there. I have had many different makes/models over the years and will now only have toyota/lexus or Honda (my previous car was toyota that I handed down to my daughter). Also, my accord is made in Japan rather than in the UK honda factory. There are many perceptions and snobbery about cars here and some are correct e.g., BMW x5 or range rover may have drug dealing tags connected. Other bmws and Mercedes may have gypsy/Irish traveller connections where I live.
Im gonna say the exact same thing. Subbed you your channel and today I went and bought a 2009 2.4 auto exec good price and really happy for it. Next thing a little modding. Awesome channel
Fully agree about the open road being where these models have found their home. My Tourer N used to regularly hail from Auckland to Tauranga every couple of weeks sitting at around 6-6.5 l/100km. You can really sit comfortably for a few hours without any issues in the seats. Stereo in this is pretty epic, though I agree the N-spec nav unit isn’t its finest feature, and really shows its age now. The import versions to have the advantage with the lane assist options but lack the heated seats which is a dealbreaker for my partner 🤣. Have to say that this series of accord also has the most reliable sunroof I’ve ever owned on a vehicle, most of them pack up will start to leak at some stage, but mine has been functional and firm for 13 years! About the only gripe I have is the lack of automatically retracting mirrors and auto door locking on nz versions but minor woes. It’s a pity they discontinued them, would love to see an accord, especially a tourer in a modern style.
Great video Liam! We had this offered in a 6MT as the 2.4L I4 Acura TSX in Canada. Essentially, a more premium Accord. However, its appeal to enthusiasts was dwarfed by that for the Acura TL which from 2008-2013 was offered with a 6MT, 3.7L V6 and Acura's sought after SH-AWD system (especially for our winters). It made 305HP and 273lbft of torque! Those were some good years for Honda enthusiasts here in North America :) Love the videos, please keep up the great work!
@@KiwiCarLife Thanks mate. Still can't beat the awesome JDM scene you guys got. We got to wait 15 years in Canada and 25 years in the US before we can import them.
I dont know if you said that you can Also get the option of Lane Keep assist and adaptive Cruise control, if you search the internet you can Also find a part that automatically bends the mirrors inward when you lock the doors, thats even an original Honda part. These are fantastic cars, i Will driver mine as long as i can
A note for anyone buying one of these cars, it is possible now to replace the navi system but it's not straightforward. There's not really an off the shelf harness available - there is a place in the USA who have developed one from the TSX (called Acura Audio Garage) but the wiring is slightly different. The amplifier in the boot's volume/balance/etc is controlled electronically from the factory head unit so if you just go ahead and splice wires in to send it a line-level signal, the volume is stuck at around 50%. I am currently in the process of replacing it in my car and I hope I will find a complete solution soon. Failing that you can rip out the factory amp and replace it but you need a rather expensive 6/8 channel unit with a DSP to get it working properly with all speakers.
I really enjoy driving my dad's CW2. The really long gear ratios in the auto let it down a lot for me though. It does get good fuel economy because of those ratios but probably not the car for me. Very easy car to drive long distances on the open road though. Amazing seats
Hi Liam. Glad you enjoy the Accord Euro CU2. I have myself the 2012 Lux. Navi in AU, bought from the 1st owner back in 2016, just 20K on the odometer! Now it's nearly 120K and still perform very well. The factory setting is a little bit sluggish in my opinion but it becomes very responsive after the ECU reflashed. So the throttle response is instant. I'm using the S mode all the time to compensate my dissatisfaction of the auto transmission only option for Lux. Navi. Another thing is the pinging/rattle sound around rpm 2.0-2.7K while uphill with load or cruising. Wondering if you experience it as well since as I'm aware that issue has been fixed by Honda post facelift version.
Nah. Always 98. Will find a tuner who really knows about it cause brought to Honda authorized service center already but they said it is fine. Maybe it's bit hard for them to replicate the condition I experienced.
I got myself a CU2 executive with 170.000 km for 8.5k from a dealer and i cant stop to smile everytime i see it in my driveyard, im so happy to have it as my second car but my average l/100km on my dash lies asf
Owner of a 09 CU2 K24 Manual here, owned it for about 5 years now, absolutely love the car. Though has developed an issue where the car seems to vibrate/shake on acceleration very noticeable when accelerating up a hill, So far I've changed tires, rebalanced the wheels, alignment done with no fix, which now seems to be pointing at the Driveshaft. Anyone had similar issues and advice? For some reason my local independent garage couldn't help due to lack of parts from any reputable Motor factors? Which now my only option seems to point me in the direction of Honda for a royal shafting with my wallet.
Hopefully i can buy a Type S version of this with the 2.4 liter engine this year or next year maybe , first time i saw this car i kind of fell in love lol , Currently having a Toyota Corolla E150 which is a decent car especially for a first car, but that Honda is just different
Good review mate! I just got mine 3months ago as used, odo reading at 150k km. my commute is a city/hway even mix but not seeing alot of traffic jams since its in brisbane suburban area.. getting 12.0 l/100km this seems pretty high for e95/e10.. should i be concerned?
Frankly these things are rated at like 9, so 12 isn't too far off that. Unfortunately these things are extremely thirsty around town due to weight and long gears
Just before you get rid of your cl9 (or if you already have rip) you should do a modified CU2 vs CL9 Modified but the cu2 has similar modifications to you.
Driving a 2011 CU2 manual. Incredible car. I can afford a far better car but simply can't justify getting one, especially when family friendly manuals are so hard to come by.
If you had to pick between the CL7/CL9 and the CU2, which one would you own? Both are very appealing in similar but different ways. Also, what grade fuel does both generations use? In America, we need at least 91 octane
@@KiwiCarLife interesting. A lot of people say the same thing. I've drove a CL7 and I loved it! Haven't been in a CU2 so I can't judge the driving potential of that yet. I've been thinking of the CW2 for the extra space. We didn't get the wagon style for the CL7 unfortunately
in 2024 what would you pay for a clean 2013 CU2 luxury with 114k kms? it has a reversing camera put in with apple car play, they want 15k and i am pretty tempted
Brilliant review mate! Fortunate enough to have the 6 speed manual in luxury trim, fantastic car to drive with exciting dynamics for a big front wheel drive sporting a four cylinder. The only issue I have with my one is the interior trim. The door cards are all scratched up and there’s a tear in the leather on both front seats. I blame the previous owner though and not the build quality. They could do with a bit more grunt imo but they are brilliant for what they are. I’d have one a million times over before I stoop so low as to buy a Camry, Commodore or Falcon.
@@KiwiCarLife it’s so weird how different the Honda market is from Australia to New Zealand. I don’t think it’ll ever happen anymore but it would have been amazing to have had Honda’s full Japanese and American range sold internationally. 😔

I get it, it’s your first car, but seriously any Honda or Toyota or Mazda or whatever will be just fine. All the issues you hear on the internet are like worst worst case scenario. 99% of them have no issues at all outside of regular maintenance
@@KiwiCarLife Australia has stupid parallel import laws ... so for many cars if they aren't sold here locally, you can't just import them. I reckon the wagons look great. You guys just have mega expensive petrol.
Do these cars consume a lot of oil, I heard this guy had a oil hungry accord euro cu2 on the honda forums. Did you have any oil consumption issues with your previous accord cu2?
Cu2 had recall for bad piston rings so 1l every 1500km is not unusual... Depending on where you live that repair is free from the honda, also k24z3 likes to destroy it self with crank bearing failure and likes to eat exaust cam. And from what I see drive shafts and cv joints are even worse than on cl9 and are way to expensive to replace.
@@CL9k24a3 in my experience these are very reliable cars, haven't seen any come into our Honda dealership with many issues at all. Yes the driveshafts will eventually go, and yes they can burn oil if not serviced well, but in general they are really good
Well, there's a couple of versions like the K24A2 and K24Z7 that make 152 and 153kW respectively in the JDM Accord Type S and USDM CIvic Si. But there's never been a K24"A" as such like the red top K20A. If there was it would probably make like 180kW
@@KiwiCarLife ah I understand, I was just looking wiki and it says "K24A High performance" and "K24A Eco" the and the k24a HP makes 203hp which isn't impressive considering your old cl9 made more than that

Totally agree
Good!
Damn I rewatched the video and looked at your rpm at 80 MPH. Wow I didn't realize how different your final drive/gear ratios are from my auto.
Speedo is km/h
I have a CU3 (2.2 diesel) 150 hp 350 nm 6 speed manual it's my first car
Nice
AMAZING CAR. I have one. Automatic. LOVE IT TO BITS.
Very good
Love to put it in sport mode and role with paddles only.
Yeah man so good
Anybody notice that the engine oil level goes down every 2/3k kms? There is no leak in the engine. Also the oil turns quite dark quickly.
Yeah that’s just classic k series burning oil haha
in 2024 what would you pay for a clean 2013 CU2 luxury with 114k kms? it has a reversing camera put in with apple car play, they want 15k and i am pretty tempted
Probably about 8 grand
I love my CU2.
Lovely vehicles
I just brought a manual nz new cu2 i love it!!!
Nice! The grey one in Christchurch by any chance?
@@KiwiCarLife No this one was from wanganui Was on trademe for a while.. Dark grey one with sports pak..
@@moonbrothers9098 oh that probably is the one I was thinking of... Couldn't quite remember where it was
@@KiwiCarLife Just got a tune today and its a lot more peppy.. i think it needs a clutch tho..
Clean👌🏼🤙🏼
Cheers
Hi. Can I ask from your opinion which you preferred. The auto or the manual transmission? Ta
Manual
Brilliant review mate! Fortunate enough to have the 6 speed manual in luxury trim, fantastic car to drive with exciting dynamics for a big front wheel drive sporting a four cylinder. The only issue I have with my one is the interior trim. The door cards are all scratched up and there’s a tear in the leather on both front seats. I blame the previous owner though and not the build quality. They could do with a bit more grunt imo but they are brilliant for what they are. I’d have one a million times over before I stoop so low as to buy a Camry, Commodore or Falcon.
Yeah a lux CU2 would be an awesome car. Too bad we only got the base here with a manual
@@KiwiCarLife it’s so weird how different the Honda market is from Australia to New Zealand. I don’t think it’ll ever happen anymore but it would have been amazing to have had Honda’s full Japanese and American range sold internationally. 😔
@@oscarkabowski8413 yeah I agree it's to Hondas detriment that they regionalise all their models. They just need to have a global lineup to cut design and manufacturing costs
@@KiwiCarLife absolutely. It’s too late though, I worry they’ll leave Australia all together soon…We’ll all be forced into driving Kia and Hyundai rubbish.
I had CU1 AT with EX spec. Loved it, but was sometimes bit underpowered. CU2/CW2 would be perfect, but drink too much if you drive town/city mostly. Atleast with these gas prices..
Yeah agree a cu1 wouldn't be the best
Great review mate. Does anyone make perfomance parts for the R20 in the CU1?
Thanks, and not really unfortunately
Thank you god i have manual Accord. :)
Hahah
Do you use 95 or 98 unleaded petrol. I read somewhere they are supposed to use high test gas?
95
Hey I’ve got a CU2 and was wondering if you know anywhere I can get the modulo sport kit I’ve look around everywhere and can’t find it
I would not know sorry. They are very challenging to find
Is the CU2 or CL9 more reliable? I was looking into them but I need one which has lesser issues. Do tell me please
@@dhrubonildas they’re both equally reliable
@@KiwiCarLife I heard they have transmission issues? And steering wheel issues? And brake issues?
@@dhrubonildas bro that could describe any car HAHAH don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
Find a well serviced relatively tidy example for a good price and it’ll be just fine. You won’t end up with anything if you keep talking yourself out of cars worrying about steering wheel issues or other pointless things like that
@@KiwiCarLife Man that's the best thing I needed to hear on this, thanks man! I was talking myself out of these cars if I see even one issue being talked about. Maybe because it's going to be my first car so I'm a bit nervous. Really appreciate it buddy! 💯♥️
I get it, it’s your first car, but seriously any Honda or Toyota or Mazda or whatever will be just fine. All the issues you hear on the internet are like worst worst case scenario. 99% of them have no issues at all outside of regular maintenance
Looking at moving from my CL9 type S to a CU2. Any differences between the 24TL and type s? Just the trim and 18's?
Yeah and just generally quieter and more refined. It would make for a nice upgrade if you just want a daily.
You will gain in a more refined car, but you will loss performance
Cu2 likes to crap on exhaust cam, crank bearings and piston rings so be careful when you go out to look for one.
We never got the wagon in Australia
Oh really? They're quite common here. Especially coz we get Jap imports
@@KiwiCarLife Australia has stupid parallel import laws ... so for many cars if they aren't sold here locally, you can't just import them. I reckon the wagons look great. You guys just have mega expensive petrol.
Honda should have made ia rear wheel drive version with a 2.4 vtec turbo.
Goodness me
Do cu2 have exhaust and intake vtec like a cl9 ?
It does yep
Yes the driveshafts will eventually go, and yes they can burn oil if not serviced well, but in general they are really good
My dad's has always used a bottle or two between services. Nothing broken. Just how it is.
Thanks for the replies.
isn't there a k24a high performance motor that produces more power than the k24a3/k24z3
Well, there's a couple of versions like the K24A2 and K24Z7 that make 152 and 153kW respectively in the JDM Accord Type S and USDM CIvic Si. But there's never been a K24"A" as such like the red top K20A. If there was it would probably make like 180kW
@@KiwiCarLife ah I understand, I was just looking wiki and it says "K24A High performance" and "K24A Eco" the and the k24a HP makes 203hp which isn't impressive considering your old cl9 made more than that
@@Pixels1920 yeah bear in mind mine had modifications… the “K24A high performance” is just because in Japan they market all K24’s as the K24A. But really it’s an A2. Same as US market TSX
@@KiwiCarLife ah cool, thanks!
CL9 will always be the best
Lovely car
I love my cu2 2.0l manual
Nice!
U mean cu1
I wish my ‘06 TSX could get that good fuel economy 😅
Haha I'm sure it could get close! I've seen in the 7's in mine
Hi there Could you do a Honda CRV Please
Potentially
Love my gen2 CR-V, which one did you have in mind, there are a lot of variations!
If you don't have these cars in manual it's a waste . The autos are for high way driving only . That 5 speed auto box ratios are longer than the great wall of China. Still a nice looking and comfortable car . Still prefer my cl9 though.
I disagree, I think the auto works just fine. I took this one for a good drive down some back roads and it was great
in my opinion previous generation its much better quality and less plastic :} edition
Oh mate nah the cu2's interior is much nicer than the cl9 for sure. The cp3 though? That's the plasticy one. Cm6 has a much nicer built interior than the newer one
i wouldve liked the TSX version better if acura didnt put the god awful grill on it
Just swap it out for an accord one
