      u will and you can. honestly most the shit you see on youtube is modded and not practical. the whole combo an enemy into the air if you look only looks cool. I recommend looking into jump canceling with trixter and shotgun for a start. If i can do it so can you. other than that you just need to pace yourself.

      @@saltymedpac3943 agreed, you just need to learn the mechanics slowly and practice a lot
      I have 80 hours on DMC 4 with Nero and I already have done Bloody Palace, it was an entire odyssey, it was hard but I did it, I learned a lot and my playstyle has a huge difference between the start and the end, it was an incredible evolution, honestly I'm very proud of it
      I'm not good as pros but I really feel like one so, if I can feel like I'm the fucking king of that game even if I'm not the best playing Nero, I know you can get good as you want

    One mechanic in dmc 3 that no one really notices is that each weapon on Dante(doesn't happen for Vergil) gives a special effect when you are in devil trigger state, Nevan gives increased healing from devil trigger, Beowulf gives more defense and makes you have more stagger value meaning attacks won't disrupt you as much, cerberus gives you more running speed, agni and rudra gives more damage to their element damage, and rebellion gives stat boosts like damage and speed
    Also, Vergil is one boss in dmc 3 that you don't want to use high stun value attacks on unless he's in devil trigger so you can knock him out of it, meaning you shouldn't use cerberus against him as it does very little damage while stunning him a lot, when Vergil stun value is reached after attacking him when he's vulnerable, makes him block your attack and start attacking again
    This is why speedrunners of dmc 3 use Beowulf starfall attack on Vergil if they can as it does the most damage while not having a lot of stun value

    • @CoralCopperHead
      @CoralCopperHead ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Thank you. I took Cerberus into the fight because I didn't take the time to learn Agni & Rudra, so with Rebellion/Cerberus being my weapons for the first fight, and Vergil's new weapon functioning similarly to Rebellion, I felt kind of compelled to intentionally recreate the first fight.
      ...Obviously, this did not work.

    • @damsen978
      @damsen978 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      DMC5 doesn't have all these amazing details in both gameplay and aesthetic. They don't make weapons change DT looks anymore, or this you talked about. This is why DMC3 is still the king, plus the gothic art-style and atmospheric music is way more immersive than "LOL PULL MY DEVIL TRIGGERXDDD BURY THE LIGHT D33P WITHINXDD".

    • @billyboleson2830
      @billyboleson2830 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      @@damsen978 dmc5 and 4 give you devil trigger unique attacks though, something 3 doesn’t have. Vergil has multiple moves he can only use in DT and Dante’s stinger and kick 13 change when you are in DT. Dmc3s DT effects are just stat boosts most won’t notice
      The gothic atmosphere in 1 also craps on the one in 3 since it was originally supposed to be an RE game.

      vergil blocks after 13 melee hits, or after too much time passes
      people spam killer bee divekick on him because it's a high damage repeatable single hit

    • @motivatedstorm3816
      @motivatedstorm3816 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Aidan8N nope not completely true, just tried spamming high time and helm braker with rebellion only for Vergil to immediately start blocking on like after the 5th hit
      Once again, stun value on attacks still matter
      Both helm breaker and high time are meant to juggle enemies into the air and knock enemies over, when using against vergil who can't be knocked over or juggled, all it does is decrease his stun value before he blocks again

    How very specific, despite DMC3 being basically my favourite game of all time, I had no idea about these specific mechanics. A little surreal for me to know about something simple yet highly effective because it feels like the kind of content if you shared or talked about back when the game came out, or a few years after, people would either not believe it or the pros will be eager to test it immediately then feel like the special 1% who possess sacred knowledge on how to be a combo god. Kinda not surprised that people outside of DMC forums from back in the day don't know about this mechanic to even talk about it along with other mechanics like Jump Canceling, Buffering, DT Flux/Mini Flux, etc.
    There was a data table (not sure if it still exists today) that provided each non-boss enemy's Knockaway value both for non-DT and DT along with a numerical value for every attack from Dante and Vergil's move set in order to reach that Knockaway value and everybody had access to it.

      Bad enemies and terrible bosses make replays a genuine chore instead of something fun to do and THATS the problem this game has

    • @Handles..
      @Handles.. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlankBlonk I feel like that goes for a majority of action games. The first playthrough is amazing, then everything after that just turns into you bullying the same bosses until you get bored and put the game down. This is due to action games mostly being about spectacle, and doing cool things in game. Once you’ve already experienced the spectacle, there’s not much else to do.

Then in Dmc5 or the Switch remaster allows freestyle mode. I've been waiting for someone to make a comprehensive video on this subject because it's such a hidden tech. Nice job Beeg. This mechanic on top of being underrated give 3's combat more depth than most might realize. DMC5 is great, but I've noticed a lot of the modern fanbase assume 3 doesn't have much depth to its combat simply because it doesn't have as much moves. The classic Truestyle Tournament MAD days of 3 are missed, because they easily prove this wrong. Brea, Blowhard, 475, & Schnee are some great examples of 3's depth, and they're some of the top DMC3 players ever. The cool thing to me is most of the players mentioned & a lot back in the TST era could be this stylish in DMC3, and they didn't even use style switching/freestyle.

    I feel like dmc3 must be one of the most underrated games ever because of how deliberate the combat seems to be designed. People say it’s all air combos but it’s not close to that at all, it’s unfortunate that some combo channels only post spammy air combos with repetitive motions that make the game seem much less interesting than it is and this video proves it. The combat is so much more and there’s so much to account for in every single ability. I’ll use a few examples too: most people think air hike is just a double jump but it’s a defensive maneuver and is good for cancelling attacks and combos. Ice age I believe is a way to attack with invulnerability instead of just something useless. Every ability in dmc3 has a place and much more than anything in 4 and 5.
    Idk, basically what I’m trying to say is that the game is easy to grasp but ridiculously deep and other games don’t do it well. It’s why I don’t love bayonetta or the sequels in dmc after 3. The sequels after 3 had a lot of attacks that felt the same but that doesn’t happen in 3. Big comment but this game is one of my favorite games ever made.

    I just love this game and series. I'm unable to perform complicated combos, my mind just doesn't work fast enough and only managed to beat dmc 3 at hard difficulty but this game is majestic and still my favorite. great video and thanks for the explanation on theese mechanics.

    This is why Dodge Offset was created in Bayonetta, the ability to pause combos for a second to reposition yourself. Not to mention in DMC5 Nero specifically gets his devil bringer jab so that his normally launching attackws can be combo'ed into. Dante and Vergil dont really need it cause in 4 and 5 they properly assigned launcher values to only certain moves and both of them get an easily accessed teleport to get them closer to enemies without breaking the combos. I remember really liking DMD mode becuae you could really combo with it, but with style swiitching being added to the Switch version I found myself still able to pull off longer combos. on normal difficulties and having more fun without worrying about teh death any random hit could bring.

    My problem with DMC 3 is definitely a "me" problem that I could solve by installing the trainer to sidestep the issue if I didn't insist on finishing the game with vanilla settings first: _I can't bring myself to hang up Rebellion even though I both suck with it and can't seem to get it to work with Nevan or Beowulf (probably because I suck with it (or more likely just because I suck))_

    If they ever remake dmc3 they should give you an option to choose between all styles and all devil arms all at once or the original one style and two devil arms, same with yellow and gold orb and turbo-on-off

    Thank you for this. The extent of my combo knowledge in this game was Killer Bee spam to get SS ranks on DMD lol. Someday when I actually get a controller that works properly, I may try to do some combos! It was nice of you to stick to the standard 2 Weapons and 2 guns + 1 style set to make those clips :)

    DMC3 was my introduction to hack and slash and was the game that made me fall in love with the series, after playing it I decided to go through every other game in the series, Even DMC2 just for the meme.

    This was really a nicely done informative video. I’ve been curious as to the math for a bit so that I can optimize my own runs for DMC3 but I play on a PlayStation and not a computer so I can’t peer into the files. I couldn’t find a source online either, most likely due to my own lack of skill in investigating.
    Regardless this does help to get me started!
    Thanks!

    Nice vid! Always love to see DMC3 content, to me it proves the game wasn't just nostalgic but something really special I was playing with when I was a kid on my PS2. Also question, how did you get those strange cutscenes, like when you had the sloths Tposing? I want to mod the game to replace the royal guard perfect guard sound with the vine boom but I'm working with strange file extensions and I might need to learn assembly and some crazy ish. I was trying to look for a central community page of dmc3 modders or something but I can't find much. Especially when it comes to modding PS2 games, it's crazy to think that it's relatively new but the architecture isn't fully understood if I remember correctly but idk. Can you point me to some technical folks?

    Imagine someone arguing that DMC3 isn't objectively the best game in the franchise.
    By every single metric that matters it's one of the best games of its entire genre, and most other genres besides, period. The most options for combat, the most variety in different character looks that also actually changed the game. The best writing the genre had ever seen up until that point, and still some of the best it ever would see almost TWENTY YEARS later.
    In almost any other game, Vergil would have been Angry Fast Katana Guy #1,257,401 and we would have forgotten about him in months. Instead, well.
    This is the game that saved this franchise, and even as good as 5 was in most respects it couldn't do everything as well as 3 did it.
    And you don't even have to be this deeply invested in the mechanics to know that.
