I thought I was the only one mixing history with restoration Excellent job! Interestingly enough I just finished a vapor blaster. TH-cam just recommended your channel. Nice to see the algorithm connect me with a channel I'm actually interested in.
You know how that wrench ended up there? Some guy was working on something 100 feet away, rounded a nut, busted his knuckles and in a hail of profanity, threw that wrench there like an Olympic hammer thrower.
Hey, you found my spanner! Seriously though, that vapour blasting technique makes the zinc plate much more acceptable as a finish. I just got through zinc plating some parts from my set of wood planes and the best I could do was to lightly scrub them with steel wool before going into the blue dip. I didn't realise you could bake them in the oven to harden the conversion layer. Good tip! Regards, Preso
Steel wool works good too. I took the lazy way out and vapor blasted. Caswell says you can just use a hair dryer too, to heat the part to 150 for a few minutes to cure.
Great Video !!! Great idea to replacing the adjuster screw ! ! ! Thanks ! If you don't mind me asking, what is the blue solution you use to harden the zinc plating ...
That was pretty awesome! Did you really find a wrench like that or was that a set up for the video? Cuz if you did I'm going to go digging holes in my backyard :-)
Sir, I am vapour blasting parts but the shining result you have shown us on youtube. How would I get the polishing result from vapour blasting? What is that technique, the correct air pressure, 45 degree gun angle while blasting, or distance of gun from the object.
Yep, things are fine. I've been focusing on getting the diy vapor blaster manual finished instead of posting vids. It ended up being more work that I thought. It's about 80% finished. I've also been doing a lot of vapor blasting work.
Hi Brad, Removing rust reminded me of this video I watched this morning. At 1:02 into the video is something that looks like a "Flash Gordon Ray Gun". No information is provided and it is most likely in a foreign country. The tool just blasts the rust away with what appears to be a wide laser beam. You can bet Harbor Freight will not be selling this soon. th-cam.com/video/2gw7Xzt4bGw/w-d-xo.html
Yes, I've seen those. They are so cool. I'd love to have one, but I priced them a while back, and I think even the small one was about $50,000. Give it a few years though, and they $29.95 at Horrid Freight.
Fantastic ACTUAL "restoration"! Not just another video where they butcher off half the metal, or something worse. I loved this.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.

Thanks. Good luck with your vapor blasting.
I love the history with this. I have a tool addiction.
The wrench came out looking good. 👍
Thanks

I love your video but is it possible to find two wrench buried in the woods?
That was pretty awesome! Did you really find a wrench like that or was that a set up for the video? Cuz if you did I'm going to go digging holes in my backyard :-)
Some artistic license was taken, but I did find the wrench in this rusted condition. Thank you, btw.

:-) It would be nice.
What are the odds that a tool guy would find a tool with a metal detector.
Yea right.
