Yesterday while watching someone stream this game, I learned that when you're going through Oogie Boogie's house, next to the green door, there's a tree root that looks like it's growing into a tunnel and if you examine the dark area it teleports you to the top of Oogie's house.
I literally just discovered that in my recent playthrough I'd always just jump down there you can also take that same spot you get teleported to back down to the green door area
It enraged me when I tried to use party commands and ended up accidentally moving to the bottom of the house 🙃 (for those that don't know, kh1 didn't have triangle reaction commands it filled in the 4th slot on the commands
I found this on my most recent playthrough. It's actually an amazing spot to 'checkpoint' in case you die to Ooghie 1. You enter the tunnel, then go back down through the door you come out of; that way if you die in the boss, you respawn right by the green door.
We'll find out we actually could play as Kairi as a secret unlockable if we beat Sephiroth at a certain time frame and then do something random in Hollow Bastion. 😂
"Hey guys it's old man 78 year old Cynical here w another KH 1 unknown fact ! " *as he explains the unknown detail he dies of a heart attack thus never letting us know what is is !*
Another interesting thing about the time colors that I just realized: They are the colors of the main characters: Blue for Donald, Green for Goofy, and Red for Sora. Wow!
I really wish they bring this back I can't believe they didn't do this type of stuff in any other game. It just makes the game feel more mysterious when you play it.
I don’t think anyone actually noticed this until now. I remember being frustrated that sometimes the stones were easier to cross than others but I just assumed I fucked up at the time.
There's an scrapped puzzle in Halloween Town, related to the pumpkin lamps at the beginning: There's no clue about how the puzzle was, but the assumption is turning on all the lamps will activate the pumpkin above the save point: The mouth will open and a lil spider will come out from there, probably along some magic orbs, munny and an item. This is known thanks to the game files of those specific objects; The pumpkin has a bone to rotate the jaw so it can be opened, and theres an spider which is the same model as Jack's doorbell except the tail is longer. In fact, the Re:Chain of Memories version of that map has the pumpkin mouth open and there's an spider hanging from there, which confirms my theory. PD: In the PS2 version there was owls sounds on the Mysterious House. These sounds were completely removed on 1.5 :(
I knew about the clock. I had a bad PS2 and would sometimes leave games running overnight so I didn’t have to worry about the disc not loading. I knew about the rocks. I struggled as a kid, would walk for precision, and noticed I got farther and the rocks were nicer when I did.
I didn't have a memory card when I first got my PS2 as a kid, so I understand well the struggle of having to just leave games running and hoping that doesn't break the system or disc somehow.
You know, thinking about it, that's probably the reason why I managed the jumps perfectly the first time and then could never do it again. When I was a kid I had no idea brightness was a thing (could never see the guy in the brown cloak on destiny islands) so I could barely see in Merlin's area leading me to slowly walk up so I knew where the water was. After I moved the console to a different TV and could see I just ran and jump leading to constant "I swear it was not this hard the first time!"
I think KH1 focused more on hidden secrets because it was more inspired by platformers. With the later games being focused on action combat more, I think hidden level secrets just aren’t a huge aspect of the action rpg genre.
I've known about the color changing clock forever. I remember the earliest videos of someone hitting lvl 100 on destiny Islands and noticing the color change. People commented that they didn't have a memory card so they just left the game running and noticed the color change as well
So I actually just played Kingdom hearts maybe a few months ago just to relive it and I actually did notice that! I was just playing around with the joystick of how fast sore can walk or run and I noticed the rocks we're moving a different paces I really didn't think anything of it but I didn't know they actually coded that I thought maybe I was just thinking the rocks moved faster than before so that is cool though!
It’s such a shame how the other games have significantly less detail in them. We ain’t discovering anything interesting about Kingdom Hearts 2 20 years later!
I found out about the moving rocks because of being bad at platforming as a child and my best friend noticing that if I don't run they move slower. Basicly it's saying don't rush take your time enjoy your self
The fact that this is in the 1.5 HD version means that someone on the team actually knew about this little detail, as they had to remake the game from scratch, as they had lost the original source code, and thus had to recreate this function from scratch.
I swear, Kingdom Hearts 1 and Bloodborne are gifts that keep on giving past their release. I've seen so many things I've never noticed before with these two recently
Wait. The island jumping thing is something I knew since i played it the year it came out. I used to think it was dumb to go so slow. I’d just glide across after Peter Pan. Their speed is also affected by how fast you’re moving when you touch the load zone to the area. There is also a button you hold to stop Sora from running and his walk animation goes from the strut/ swagger walk to a more sedated walk. (Think similar to the walk he does while lifting boxes/ crates/ barrels but obviously hands down and a slower. I don’t think it’s on the remasters though. I only ever did it on PS2.
I’m the on of the devs for KH1 Archipelago rando. Digging into the files for Traverse Town reveals there was originally going to be some sort of race in 2nd District and it would have cost postcards

That the color went to green, i knew from my own gameplay back then. The other colors i saw some years ago on youtube. Kingdom Hearts is not the first game where time color changes after 100h. Some Final Fantasy titles have that feature, too.
I’m ecstatic this is coming to light over 20 years later!! I swear I’ve encountered the rocks not moving before but just had no idea why. Definitely never got a chance to translate my own Ultimania either . LOVE YOUR CONTENT BRO!
The first KH Ultimania starts with a detailed breakdown of Sora's jump distance and angles, and how to use that little boost from a Keyblade swing at the optimal time. You might expect the official guide for a game to be a bit vague and wishy washy from the stuff we got in like Nintendo Power, but Ultimania doesn't mess around.
I did see the clock color change when I crossed over 100 hours recently (so that I could get the Speedster achievement), though I didn't pay much attention to it. I think I kind of noticed the rocks moving slower in this playthrough, but I don't think I really grasped it. It is a clever bit.
My younger self is screaming inside my heart upon learning this fact 7 years later. Edit: And here we thought that KH's plot is the only thing capable of driving us nuts
@Darth_Spyro Not sure what you mean, I do follow the game's plot including the phone games, I meant it in the way of "every new plot reveal is mind blowing"
Omg. I did notice inconsistency! I did not know it was tied to speed. After all, you only enter twice, once at the beginning and then later when you get…Gravity, was it? The chest behind Merlin’s home!
It's honestly a shame the other kh games didn't focus on the quality and secrets that kh 1 had. Maybe they thought it wasn't worth it. 😂 I'm kinda wondering if maybe after kh is over, maybe Kairi could get her own series because Nomura said as long as it's Kingdom Hearts it will focus on Sora. So it kinda made me think what if that implies Kairi will get her own series and maybe they could return to the hidden details of the first game. 🤔
As someone who plays these games way too much (I'm pretty sure my current playthrough is my 20th at least), it amazes me that there's still at least one secret I hadn't stumbled across.
I knew about this. It felt like a movie detail to me, but I've never seen the Merlin movie, so I wouldn't know. It's like the rocks are sentient or something. You have to approach them as you would a wild animal. They get spooked if your movement is abrupt or creepy. Gotta be casual. Don't spook the stones. They are very good boys. Life in proximity to Merlin has put them on edge, they have anxiety. It's a trauma response. I feel like the clock thing is for the boys who didn't have a memory card and left their PS2's running for like three weeks straight. I know I've done that, I did not have a memory card the first time I finished KH1. I did not notice the clock, however. If I did I don't remember.
I actually semi-knew about this but it seemed more like a superstition in my head, because I struggled with these rocks when I was a kid and I'd always try to "sneak up" on them and sometimes it worked.
I knew about this but I think it went over my head. Like I was really young so I didn’t put it together that it was the speed of my walk that made the rocks move slower but I remember them moving fast and slow sometimes lol. Love this game and so glad i was a kid when it came out. Truly a magical experience. 1 will always be my favorite and 2 will always be the surpassing sequel.
I definitely miss that era of games. It feels like after a while teams became far more organized and micro-managed. You had fewer people just adding in random tidbits here and there in their spare time and the result is an experience that certainly feels more curated/polished but feel less ambitious or mysterious. I think to how studios like Bethesda with their earlier RPGs or Respawn with Titanfall 2 would actually allocate time for devs to go off on their own and come up with prototypes for things they'd like to see in the game and it results in tons of huge ideas as well as tiny touches that make the games feel so much more memorable.
thats not even possible, after the first 3 worlds you have to go back to traverse town for the gummi, and cid only gives it to you after you visit merlin and give him the winnie pooh book.
@@schwazernebe Did I break the game then? I got so lost playing KH1 that it took me so long to find the house, I know I was at level 30 before I found it. I may be misremembering
No joke, why was kh1 worlds so full of passion/creativity that was never recreated? It just wild that kh1 has the most secrets outta of all the game with no shenanigans of the story

I did know about the rocks because it was hard for me to get passed when I was younger. I didn’t know they were random though. I thought they always moved slow when walking near them as I only went there like 2 or 3 times to get everything.
I think why KH 1 remains as my favorite in the series, despite later installments having overall better gameplay, is just how experimental it was in its design. Square had a lot of ideas of what they wanted to have this game to be, and it's so apparent with the level design. It also has the best story, and despite the simplicity, the gameplay holds up well in my opinion still
I feel like Kingdom Hearts 1 and Devil May Cry 5 are two sides of the same coin when it comes to detail because there's a lot of attention to detail in both games and they still have hidden secret details that we discover years later
Tbh I thought it was if you were jumping while approaching or not because when I'm running around I always jumped for funnies lol but sometimes I just walk-around and act like a npc
I’ve found something in KH1. I’m not sure if I’m the first to discover this but I’m sure many of you out their noticed the party menu in kh1 would have random colors from time to time…. It’s not random and the way it works is really cool. The best way to play around either this is in first person for more control. So here’s the secret what ever color Sora is staring at will determine the menu color. And it is not just the general color it is the color of the textured pixel at the center of the screen that the camera/Sora is looking at. You can prove this by going into first person and looking at a save point and intermittently opening and closing the menu rapidly every second(yes party menu works in first person for some reason) and you will see the menu go from green to white and back to green. I don’t know why they put this here or why they took it out of the other games but yeah that’s what I found late last year.
I should add it is very precise it’s by the pixel so have fun looking around with the first person camera and change my the menu color. Maybe it’ll help some of you go past a 100 hours for that speed run trophy trick!
What's even funnier is those who are aware, thought everyone else was aware. Same with using fire in certain combos or raid making you invulnerable. Or how there are chest in the games you can get without trinities.
Alright, of all the new things in KH 1, I didn't know the moving stone depends on your speed. I assume it something like you can freeze the bubble in Hollow Bastion, keyblade have hidden stats and act differently in battle and/or you can clip out of bound in Atlantica
6:37 @TheGamersJoint to answer your joke question yes i did play kh 1for over 300 hours on one file as a kid back on the PS2... after beating games i would continue to play to role-play and to admire the world design, so i knew about the clock changing color but i thought it was a mandela effect... And as for the moving platforms speed... i honestly thought that was common knowledge... i find out because i used to suck at landing, so i slowly walked to it watch it move to get the timing down and i noticed it was moving slower... i don't know why i hold onto information like this for years lol
Ok so i walk everywhere in games, to appreciate scenery and shit, I'm fairly sure i ran into the rocks stuff, but as i was appreciating the scenery and not the water rocks, It's likely I never even realised the speed changes.
Oh yeah, I definitely reached well over 300 hours in KH1 as a kid! But then, that's only because I didn't own a PS2 memory card. So I was forced to just keep the game running non-stop. 😅
Hmmm strangely, I've seen them behave that way a few times before, though I never paid attention to why exactly they would go slow or fast most of the time. So now that I know it was because of your approach in terms of speed, I guess I'll keep that in mind, especially as a lesson in mechanics for handling difficult curve for level navigation.
I did kind of notice that when i was playing it on the ps4, they would go slower or faster, but i couldn't figure out why and thought i was going crazy, and eventually forgot about it, glad to see this got solved and that it was my walking speed lol😅
I sort of knew this genuinely because when I was younger I used to get angry at missing the jump and in my tilt state I would walk towards it seething lmaoooo. I thought for sure sometimes it moved faster. I must’ve been doing this by accident because I legit thought the rocks were fucking with me as a kid. This and Monstro broke me LOL.
This would have been useful information back in the day. When I was a kid me and my older sister could not get past this part because we were playing on the PS2 and on a TV that was always too dark for some reason. No matter what we did to the settings, this area was impossible to see in. The only way we could play the rest of the game was my sister got one of her friends to just play past that section to the nearest save point. So it wasn't until the 1.5 Remix that I was able to play KH1 start to finish. I had a PS3 and a better TV. However if I would have known they moved slower when walking up to them, I might could have got past that section. Maybe lol
One of those things I'd have never figured out why but I always wondered why I had such difficulty with those platforms going back to that spot. I just thought it was my timing and just a jank platforming section since I always tried to rush it.
The one guy hitting lv 99 on Destiny Island is the only person that needs the changing clocks. 😂

Fire door glowing? So cool I think!
4:33 sounded like a cat that fell in the bath 😂
6:37 @TheGamersJoint to answer your joke question yes i did play kh 1for over 300 hours on one file as a kid back on the PS2... after beating games i would continue to play to role-play and to admire the world design, so i knew about the clock changing color but i thought it was a mandela effect...
And as for the moving platforms speed... i honestly thought that was common knowledge... i find out because i used to suck at landing, so i slowly walked to it watch it move to get the timing down and i noticed it was moving slower... i don't know why i hold onto information like this for years lol
An MMO based on KH1 would slap, and I would live in there until my hair starts greying and my knees start giving.
I knew about the clock because I would fall asleep with my game on
I love your stuff. Keep it up brother😁
I definitely had my save timer tick over, but that's cause I had a PS2/disc/memory card that didn't like saving so I left it running for days on end
After giving that game at a plus thousand hours I never knew it
Ok so i walk everywhere in games, to appreciate scenery and shit, I'm fairly sure i ran into the rocks stuff, but as i was appreciating the scenery and not the water rocks, It's likely I never even realised the speed changes.
😂😂😂 This game and this channel is fantastic.
I actually do remember someone telling me about this in school years ago.
Took me 26 years but finally found Waldo
Just watch. There'll be some additional secret that ONLY pops up if your game clock is orange.
This is why us kingdom hearts fans will never be fully sane. Bc we’re still finding out things about the game 20yrs later😭
The ammount of love and care put in KH1 is something that never happened again in the series :(
It was made by SquareSoft. Square-Enix made the rest. That's why
Someone with social media should send this to RegularPat
I learned about this over 10yrs ago 😂 I was bored while replaying KH1 and kept trying to have fun with those rocks.
I want more puzzles, secrets, and environmental interactivity from KH4.
Could easily hit 300 hours bumping traverse town music in the background 😂
I only reached 100 hours+
I never noticed the green color, lol!
Yeah, played this game many times but never realized this. 😂
I knew about the time color changes but not the floating moving rocks!
Maybe lol
Wow. That's awesome! I didn't know either of these things
One of those things I'd have never figured out why but I always wondered why I had such difficulty with those platforms going back to that spot. I just thought it was my timing and just a jank platforming section since I always tried to rush it.
I swear I remember this being a thing when I was younger
Also this design makes since for being Merlin's area
Whoa, a cameo appearance!
