Love the way you keep smiling, I think my 🧸 would have been well in the corner of the garage…
One of my closest friends was a master mechanic for Ford. I wish he were still around because he would really appreciate your problem-solving and mechanical skills.
It's logical captain....
@@BritannicaRestorations Not for many people it isn't.
I like the double fuel filters fitting ❤❤❤❤❤❤
If the injector pipes were all lining up ok...looks like the loose nut slipped timing. good job...neat spanner tool thingy.
Thanks 👍
It's all about the timing..!! I've just rebuilt my V8 and got the timing 180 degrees out. Got a build up of fuel and blew the valley gasket out... nearly blew my neighbour's head off too... I won't make that mistake again... 🤣🤣
Lol!
Timing on a petrol is very different to a diesel
You are earning your money on this one, the owner should be very grateful for your diligence and expertise.
Don't I know it!
That engine sounds fantastic Mike. Ballache with the pump though but no problem for your expertise. I wouldn't have a scooby with the pump setup.
I have seen domestic reconditioned pumps set up wrong in the past - there was fuel coming out - but not at the right time!
Just as well you are a pretty savvy Mechanic as that would’ve foxed many.
It helps if you’ve experienced something similar before but it’s also easy to jump to conclusions.
Easy to end up wasting a lot of time and introducing additional faults if not careful unless you’ve narrowed down possibilities and through logical faultfinding isolated the fault.
I became suspicious when I was informed it was a reconditioned pump - in the UK they would have set it up correctly, but here I don't think they know.
I just wonder how they have set up the fuelling - I bet it is very lean
What a professional, so good to see you work through that issue and get it running .
I didn't know you could get the pump off without pulling the entire front cover and timing belt. That is great information to know about thank you
Maybe this will help too

Cheap on eBay.great kit.used to do 300 timing belts while the client had a coffee.200..different story!
Having a td5 defender & tdv6 disco, I find it so interesting watching rebuilds of engines/ gearboxes & all the marvellous things you do, it’s a dying game where people make do & mend in this throw away society.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Well spotted Mike, top job
Thanks Graham!!
We had a similar issue with a Cummins pulley was turning on the pump. Had a key way but no key. Started and run sweet as but after a couple minutes the pulley turned on the shaft. The spring washer had compressed flat.
Seems to be more common than I thought!
That sounded lovely Mike. A thing of beauty and a joy for ever. Well done Merlin you never give up. Jamesons night tonight then 🥃🥃🥃
Glad you enjoyed it
Always.
Good video thanks Danny
Glad you enjoyed it
My van has a VE pump…
I had it running but the computer said ‘No’(as in pump timing too advanced to adjust)
I know very little about pumps but stripped and ‘re sealed’ mine without too much issue. Setting the pump timing has been a journey of wrong info(completely in my case) and misadventure although now I have a few more thing to try out first before I ‘sack it’ and buy a new pump(reconditioned)
You must have an electronic VE pump
Magic Mike strikes again, well done great job.
Thanks!
Feel for you Mike. Happened to my Covid RRC v8 EFI new engine. Started but ran like a bastard and backfired like buggery. Eventually sorted it but the shine on the new engine was a bit diminished by the end. The god of rovers only tests his most ardent disciples. Keep smiling 👍
Thanks!
Your video,s are invaluable just reassembling my 200tdi and like a numpty i undid the nut on the pump flange thinking it was keyed , so will be using your how to re-time on my pump .
These are the tools I used

I sent mine for repair 300tdi. And wouldn’t start spend ages thinking it was me. I had to video it with the injector pipe loose and watched the inlet valves saw it was firing in 2 first after cylinder one inlet valve closed
Seems to be common that the pump is OK, but the pulley is on wrong
@ was the rebuild company not checking there work. They didn’t argue when I brought it back. I should have watched some of your videos on how to change that o ring on the top half looks easy the way you did it.
On the original Bosch fuel filter head, I'm sure there's a restricted banjo bolt on the return from the pump..... If it's gutless and rough running check that..
Mike, I had a real problem with this blue hoses. I tried several hoseclamps and tightened like hell.
The hose is so stabil, really difficult to squeeze.
These hoses were very tight to fit - had to use lubricant to get them to go on
Did you used to work on land rovers in Great Ayton?
No.
for servicing the injector pumps, what is typical cost for you in Canada if send to certified shop? i got quoted CAD 900-1500 depending on parts needed.
Very expensive here - you should look into buying an outright rebuilt one from the UK. I have had rebuilt ones done in a shop here and similar problems as this video - timing out and fuelling set so lean it would hardly get into 5th (pretty economical, mind!)
I can strip and rebuild them with no problems - except setting them up - has to be done on a test bench - and shops will not accept DIY pumps to be set up on their equipment, as there could be contamination that gets into their equipment - maybe they have not heard of filters...
@@BritannicaRestorations thank, indeed get a reconditioned one from the UK is very similar i pricing and more likely to be calibrated and tested to suit a LR.
Exactly!
Try some Start You Basted 😂
Ooooooooopoh shinnnne 😊
👍👍👍👍👍
As always, it's not that Land Rover engines are shit, the problem is People working on them and finding excuses for their own mistakes. Those engines are boolet proof. I know, I have run since the start of 200 series, with millions of km on them and all i can say is that they stand a lot of shit.
I take it you have now owned a Freelander with a V6 in it...
Can you do more v8 videos??
If one comes along - don't see many nowadays
@BritannicaRestorations thank you!
Made in Middlesbrough 😂😂
Lol!
Back in the Boro years ago, you could buy 'reconditioned engines' from the scrapyard, with a 6-month guarantee.
They were all shiny black
They used to power wash the old engines they took out of cars, paint them, and if they failed within 6 months they would give you another - hoping that it would get to the 6-month point!
Nowt wrong with Boro!…Blackett Hutton in Guisborough (guessing you used to live there) used to send all their motors to us in Boro 😊
Who pays for the extra labor to fix the pump?
fixed rate job
