I'm torn between a Harley Benton 212 with the v30's or a Marshall mx212 with the 70/80's. I just got a dsl20 head and need a affordable cab soon. The mx cab would look better, but would the HB be the better tone choice?
@@Cheximus got the Harley Benton vintage 212, horizontal. After shipping to USA still only $318. Marshall mx212 with particleboard and 70/80's cost $499 before tax. Easy choice. I definitely recommend ordering from Thomanns website. Way cheaper than US prices. They even have the MX cabinet for, I think about $240. Plus shipping. I wish Marshall would at least put V-plus speakers instead of the 70/80's. Maybe I should try one before bashing too hard. But the Harley Benton quality is nice. Took the back panel off the other day. Beautiful poplar plywood. Looked brand new and fresh. Smells nice too.
It sounds great! I wish it had headphone jack on the front like my other amp. Also an 8 ohm Jack would be nice. The whole package with the cab I might consider since my best cab is a 4 ohm and not much will fit it anyway
Just rearrange your speakers as 16ohms, 2x8ohm series = 16ohms, 2x8ohm parallel=4ohm, 4x4ohm series=16ohms (don't try the parallel 'cos is like 1 - 2 ohms) the power is the same at 16ohms, no matter the arrangement.
It's a 2 speaker cab 2- 8 ohm speakers. I have tried it in series and it just doesn't sound the same. The 4 ohm setup is night and day different and sounds too damn good to wire it to sound less!
@@jamoman0277 it sounds great through a 1x12. It's plenty loud for practice for sure. Plug it into something bigger like 2x12 or better yet a 4x12 and it's very capable of playing with a live band.
i think it's great for heavy riffing, but you got to experiment with the settings. i guess gain is too high in this clip, but if you use a booster pedal in front of the amp with gain around 7-8 it gets a nice (oldschoolish) metal tone
just got mine last week and i gotta tell you, it sounds fresh thorugh a 1x12 cab. clean channel actually is bright in regular settings, but i like that through the neck pickup of a strat. can handle all the rock and metal sounds very well and is louder than you'd expect from 1watt. i keep playing it on 0.1w in my flat, great experience!
The cool thing about the classic gain channel is that if your Strat is too bright, just crank the volume to get more compression to take off the top end bite. Dimed, my Strat even has usable tone on the bridge pickup. More interestingly, rolling treble on the amp to zero dramatically increases gain and produces quite a marvellous tone. Tele bridge pickup REALLY likes it.
@@lorthern4118 I usually have amp's treble and mid at 12 o'clock and bass dimed. The higher the volume, the more I roll back the bass to help keep it somewhat tight. Depending on how bright your pickups are, you may want to increase top end as you get closer to dimed volume. And, as the old "dimed Marshall" implies, there's great joy to be had in just taking volume, treble, mid and bass and just winding 'em all fully clockwise. Ultimately, just experiment. The combination of guitar, pickups, guitar vol/tone and amp vol/tone controls create nearly unlimited variations. I find that my LP Special's P-90s interact with the amp quite differently than, say, my Tele's '64 Pure Vintage pickups. Oh, and the amp's treble knob can be rolled back to minimum to increase gain, which can net a really interesting tonal effect. Enjoy the journey. :)
@@TraneFrancks oh why do u dimed the bass??? I got one, and when i turn up the volume the bass gets muddy (maybe loose) it sounds like farts. I got the bass at 9 oclock, and didnt really fix it, but i got it thru a closeback2x12 with v30s.
@@howtoshootstraighthtss4948 Since I have the combo, bass is pretty weak. As I wrote above, however, the more the volume goes up, the more the bass gets rolled back. I play mostly edge-of-breakup tones, so I seldom have to worry about it farting out.

Too many questions, will keep my answer very brief- to avoid you any pains of research just get this combo or a cabinet with matching ohms to go with a valve head. Bugera, blackstar, joyo some brands out there with effects loop as well.
I have this amp and use it with a 16 Ohm 2X12 Cab I modified. Play in a band with it. I do mic it up with a SM57 but I am told I am too loud and I remind them IT IS 1 WATT! :)
I am interested in Marshall MX112 cab in particular! For playing in relatively low volumes (like in home or garage) would that MX112 Cab be ok paired with a Solid State Mini Dark Orange amp head??? would the extra quality of a 400-500$ be significantly better sound experience, working at relatively low db levels? Low volumes meaning .. like 60db-70db that is normal conversation sound level … (90db lawn mower)
Just ordered my first guitar, a Harley Benton which I'll play through an inexpensive audio interface and something like Amplitube. I still aspire to have a black and gold Marshall head + cab one day when I have too much money to care and the freedom to make the walls shake.

If you are asking about size - cab is designed as an extension for DSL20 combo or as set for DSL20 head. Try to Google phrase "DSL20C MX112", you'll see the stack ;)
Mine has ZERO clean tones unless set below 3 on the dial(9oclock). No matter what tube set up. A one trick pony that does a Marshal sound very well. I like my Katana solid state more,as it blows the DSL-1 away on every level.
ok i got the head and the cab.and i can tell you this if you want to make them sound amazing this is what i did to the cab,i changed the speaker straight away cause it fart nomatter what .the 70 /80 is crap.i put in a celestion greenback g12m from 1971 original in clean condition .you can hear the difference in tone on my channel.really change the speaker first no necessary a green back original but a new one will work amazing or a v30 celestion .then i changed the valves in the head to 60s mullards i know they cost alot but if you are a tone freak like me you will.then i put an ibanez st 9 original from 1984 super tube screamer in front of it .and hear the difference. with a gibson or a strat it sound amazing.
Why does the 70/80 fart ? it is a 80W rated speaker with heavy doping. But I agree that the celestion 70/80 is not a good fit for marshall type amps..Also VOX puts this speaker in their very bright VOX AC4-c1 in a small closed back cab which is the wrong speaker for the cab and circuit. . Marshall amps tend to have pretty strident upper mids and the celestion 70/80 has that in spades, and the lack of low mids in the 70/80 and focus on highs mids make it sound better in an open back configuration. A really well broken in 70/80 sounds nice in my friends YCV40. An american sounding amp with a large baltic birch plywood open back cab (not dead MDF).. Speakers like the celestion vintage 30 sound better in small closed back cab as it limits the mids a bit, lift the resonance frequency so you get more audible punchy bass.. PS: the 70/80 takes a long time to break in.. It might be the amount of doping. I have a solid state DV micro 50 amp which is said to sound a little like a darker fender silverface amp, without a bright cap,, the mid control work on lower mids,, the bass pot is too excessive (keep it 10' oclock) , and the treble needs a little boost (2 o'clock),, This amps lacks the upper mid presence of a marshall amp and the celestion 70/80 is a good fit.. I have a smooth sounding eminence legend GB128 but with the DV mark it lacks cutting midrange.. The GB128 works wonders in bright marshall amps though..
The head is awesome, especially when you consider the price. But the Seventy80 sucks. It’s by far the worst celestion I’ve ever played. No comparison to a Greenback or even a G12t75.
My DeArmond M-75 (Gold Tone humbuckers) and Gibson Les Paul Special w P-90s see breakup on the classic gain channel (power set to 0.1 W) with the volume knob at about 11 o'clock. The single coils on the Tele and Strat need more of a twist of the knob, but the output is basically the same. Strat and Tele like a bit more overall volume to tame the bridge pickups via compression.
Trane Francks ...Hi..do you think this is way different from Orange , I have the Th30c ...great breakup at low volume 2 channel...i.e. Worth buying for that Marshall tone ..?
@@neoaureus I suppose it depends on what vintage of Orange you consider "Orange". Is it a Matlab or later? Same somewhat applies to the Marshall question. The DSL1xR amp strives to mimic the tone and gain of a JCM800 on the classic gain channel, so you need to balance that versus the vintage of Orange you're hoping to emulate. If you want a late-'70s/early-'80s Orange tone on the Marshall classic gain channel, you won't get there directly, but a treble boost pedal might help you get closer. Ultimately, if you really want the Orange sound, you want an Orange amp. But, yes, if you like the JCM800-type of grind, you'll enjoy this amp. Just note that if you really want that big bottom, you'll want the head and separate cab instead of the combo. The combo is more mids-focused and the bottom end is a little more loose (typical of open-back combos vs sealed cabs).

nice! enjoy it!
Did you get tht tone starting from 6:15 using some fuzz pedal?
Hi.
What speaker They put inside the CAB?
Think about buying the head but not to sure on that Seventy 8 cabinet speaker. Mostly play metal rhytm on a 6 string, doubting to get myself a Peavey cabinet or one with celestion v30 any advice?
Yeh 12v30 or 12h30 I hear good things about the greenbacks too
The Seventy 80 speaker that comes in this cabinet holds this amp back. A greenback, V-Type or some of the WGS options really improve things and open this amp up.
I was worried about clean headroom, but that sounds very usable without getting lynched by the neighbours.
I had a Blaxkstar HT-5R, which was a good home amp, too.
how was blackstar ht5r gain for metal tones and which cabinet were you running it through ?
@@riffheart It’s a very versatile amp and gives a full range of distortion tones - though a metal version exists, too. I used the standard HT extension cab. It’s a great amp for overdriven rock tones.
very polyvalent (good harmonics) amplifier from clean to high gain...what do we need more ? change the preamp tube and ad a power amp on a stage if necessary) and 3 pedals and let's go Mario !
The clean isn't overly bright. It's just enough to cut through several types of mixes👍
I'm torn between a Harley Benton 212 with the v30's or a Marshall mx212 with the 70/80's. I just got a dsl20 head and need a affordable cab soon.
The mx cab would look better, but would the HB be the better tone choice?
What did you go for? Eyeing up the Harley but I think I'd prefer 1x12 (playing at home).
Wutup Natedog!
It has an emulated out so headphones can be plugged in. It’s on the rear of the amp.
NateDogMXtv well thats a practice amp this is more giggish
Allô ,does your DSL1HR make a popping noise when changing from the Ultra gain to Classic gain? Thanks
yes it makes popping noise, if you change it while playing.
This stack with a Sire S3 (sunburst),Gretsch Electromatic (bordeaux red) or Sqiuer CV Strat (candy apple red) and your playing under $1000.
Is it possible to hook the head up to a boss katana artist cab? Like use a cable extension in the back to connect the head to the speaker?
You still got it? How are you liking it?
What about DSL1 into a sv112?
is it loud enough?
Too loud
The DSL20HR into a 1x12 cab is blistering!
Torn between getting a 112 and a 212 for my DSL 20HR, how are you finding it with the 112?
@@jamoman0277 it sounds great through a 1x12. It's plenty loud for practice for sure.
Plug it into something bigger like 2x12 or better yet a 4x12 and it's very capable of playing with a live band.
@@bernardfoshage9901 awesome, thank you, I've got myself a nice cheap 212 and a pair of Greenbacks to put in it 👍
Your playing ❤wow
A 4x12 for this amp for home use?
Nice review of this amp. And some great lead playing too.
Is it ok to use a 8 ohm cab with this?
Great sound ....
Great video but wondering does it come with the foot switch ?
Yes.
What is your opinion? IMO it sounded good fir clean and leads but not for the heavy riffing.
Exactly. It's kinda muddy in the heavy riffs. But for some nice lead tones or blues /hard rock leads is fine!
Stel Andre and for high gain you have the FX Loop 😏
i think it's great for heavy riffing, but you got to experiment with the settings. i guess gain is too high in this clip, but if you use a booster pedal in front of the amp with gain around 7-8 it gets a nice (oldschoolish) metal tone
If you want modern high gain get a 5150 like everyone else 😆
230v 50hz are you live in the USA
Nice amp and cabinet, sounds really great for 1 watt! Really nice playing too!
just got mine last week and i gotta tell you, it sounds fresh thorugh a 1x12 cab. clean channel actually is bright in regular settings, but i like that through the neck pickup of a strat. can handle all the rock and metal sounds very well and is louder than you'd expect from 1watt. i keep playing it on 0.1w in my flat, great experience!
@@TraneFrancks is there any tone settings you'd recommend?
This is better than the horrible mg series right ?
Quick qurstion. I never had a true amp just a cheap no name practuce amp and im looking yo get this. What are the do's and dont's with a tube amp and when using it wirh head phones do you unplug it from tge cab? Also is ot worth the money and what cab would sound best with this for metal tones? I was thinking of a orange cab with celestor vintage v30 speaker in it. Thanks for the help in advance
Too many questions, will keep my answer very brief- to avoid you any pains of research just get this combo or a cabinet with matching ohms to go with a valve head. Bugera, blackstar, joyo some brands out there with effects loop as well.
The back panel says it's manufactured by Yamaha.
I have this amp and use it with a 16 Ohm 2X12 Cab I modified. Play in a band with it. I do mic it up with a SM57 but I am told I am too loud and I remind them IT IS 1 WATT! :)
Well the Woody Woodpecker theme was the last thing I expected
should i buy this set or the dsl20c
its a good combo but i think i like some other tube amps better now.. but its a good low volume amp for a small room!
Sounds pretty good.Wish it had a real tube though.
it has a tube
@@StelAndre Oh wow! That is great news! Thanks
Yay!!!!
DO THEY WORTH IT
yeap!
Ive got the 20 watt combo here and i cant say enough good things about it
@@itakemyshirtoffwhenipoo4990 I got the 5W combo aswell, Play it mostly clean with my epiphone casino and I love it, great amp for the money!!!
I too came for the cab. As I need a cab for my rack setup
Sounds ok for 200 quid, the jcm 1 was awesome hope it makes a comeback
Would the MX112 cab work with a Marshall SC20H Head?
i think yes!
Just ordered my first guitar, a Harley Benton which I'll play through an inexpensive audio interface and something like Amplitube. I still aspire to have a black and gold Marshall head + cab one day when I have too much money to care and the freedom to make the walls shake.
hehe yeah it feels good! but the vst nowadays sound so so so good.
What’s your thoughts on the Harley Burton guitar?
beautiful kit !!
YAY 👍🏻

Οι εντυπώσεις σου από την καμπίνα; Σε καλύπτει;

How big is this vs the 20w head version?
Will it work out?
If you are asking about size - cab is designed as an extension for DSL20 combo or as set for DSL20 head. Try to Google phrase "DSL20C MX112", you'll see the stack ;)
Very nice amp
great sound
Nothing sounds like a Marshall. You'll have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.
Hurmmm i heard cromok there 😭😭
Why do you always have to microphone the amplifier to do your tests?
they should try it without microwaves so people hear their real sound without mic
What volume do we get the tube break up?..
Trane Francks ....ah ! You are not a amp nerd....you are a Philosopher ! Haha ...thanks I shall ponder on the mysteries of life...I mean electronics.
@@neoaureus Have fun, man! I hope you find that tone that's in your head. ☺️
I'd say thats a YAY

This amp is easily converted to an 8ohm load...much more versatile for my cabs as an 8ohm amp...
Please explain how to do it.
I've read you can directly connect an 8 ohm speaker without issues. So we really need to Mod the wire in the transformer?
