      @@milesfarberbecause Ray tracing was a relevant question that anyone was asking back in 2017? 2080 RT was still barely usable in games when it came out, and it was leagues ahead of any traditional ray compute ray tracing before it.
      Vega was what AMD had to offer, but it was not exactly impressive for gaming at the time. GCN based architecture was already long in the tooth and AMD was relying on optimizations and then a node shrink, while focusing on developing RDNA.

    • @thorodin3631
      @thorodin3631 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      navi should be super good. all amd has to do is use infinity fabric to tie gpu's together to get them to scale together and act as 1 just like they do with ryzen. if they tie 2 gpu's together, it would blow the doors off anything that nvidia has. they could literally drop a vega edition right now with infinity fabric and it would wipe the floor off anything from nvidia

    • @zacronzer
      @zacronzer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thor odin considering the thermal output and power consumption, it will be less likely, since they would throttle without some serious cooling and power supply and honestly that concept is pretty similar to titan Z

    • @thorodin3631
      @thorodin3631 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zacronzer Zetto not true at all. I have a thread Ripper (go look on my channel, I have plenty of videos on it) and it is using infinity fabric. At full load on cinnebench my max temp is like 60c. It's actually cooler than my 1800x. My 1800x is liquid cooled (corsair h60, is 120 and has 2 fans with push pull connected to it and my thread Ripper 240 liquid cooler.) and it runs cooler. Granted bigger radiator but the 240 is not push pull, it's just push out the case. So with 2 cpus in one socket it runs damned cool! I also have my thread Ripper stables over locked to 4.15 ghz and at full load 60c!! Further it runs cooler than intels x299 series chips. Intels 16/18 core chips has a higher tdp at throttle. And those are single monolith chips. So that being said, pretty sure amd could do something similar with navi

    I'll admit, I used some of the powerful video card I ALL READY OWN to do a bit of cryptocurrency mining when I'm not gaming on my computers, but OH MY GOD. I am getting so fucking pissed off about the miners buying up all the fucking video cards!
    EDIT: To some responses to this comment. The Bitcoin is currently worth $4388 USD per unit as I am currently writing this. However, with my GTX1080 I have, even overclocked, I only make a max of about $2.50 PER DAY (full 24 hours) with the amount of bitcoin I mine (somewhere around 0.0005 BTC/Day, and no, I'm not mining Bitcoin directly, I'm mining Altcoins that are efficient and converting them to Bitcoin). Then I make another 50 to 70 cents from the 970 I have in a mITX PC I built a while back. All in all, after a few weeks, I've made around $60.
    Given how small that really is, considering I have a job, and that it's impossible to play video games while my PC is mining, yea, I have no problem turning my miner off for a few hours to play video games.

    The real story for me in all honesty is not about either AMD or Nvidia hardware it's about the state of games in general. If you look down a list of popular games the framerates are all over the place, sure some do well on Nvidia some do well on AMD but many just absolutely SUCK on both! not getting anywhere near 100Hz at 1440p.
    I don't mind spending $600 on a graphics card but I do mind spending $500+ on a 144Hz moniter when only a handful of games even come close to that framerate.
    I'm sure many money grabbing lazy developers love the fact that the community spends its time arguing over hardware that is essentially the same when infact the biggest thing holding back gaming is bad developers!

Why is AMD able to get away with anything, imagine if Nvidia did this, people would be outraged, screaming that they are being ripped off, but when AMD does it everyone quiets down and accepts it. Do people not understand the only way to make a company improve is to give it backlash?

    • @dycedargselderbrother5353
      @dycedargselderbrother5353 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not even clear there's a savings to be had. The MSRP of Vega 56 is $400 while 1070s were selling as low as ~$330 before the mining boom, with ~$360 being somewhat common. If Vega 56 holds at $400 and the product is actually available there is a case to be made but if the price shoots up and/or there is nothing to be had until 2018 then AMD has basically abdicated two hardware generations, starting from the non-answer to the 980 Ti, which they still struggle against even with this new product lineup.

I have the ROG Strix OC 1080Ti, that I managed to snag for $779 at launch, but now those go for $799 everywhere. The non OC Strix card is still $760, the cheapest 1080Ti I've seen is the Gigabyte which is still $719. I have yet to see one below $700, even though the MSRP is on founders cards is $699.

      OK, So I pay $100 more for a G-sync monitor and it works better. Or spend the same amount and get a Vega card and get Freesync. I had freesync It was not even close to as good as G-Sync. I guess if i made 2000 zip files a day it would be worth it. Look at the numbers again. As far as Productivity your talking about 10-15 sec difference. So after rendering a 30min TH-cam video you would save your self 2-3 min if that. Unless you sit and watch your videos render its not worth it. Also your talking about 1-1.5 amps more power draw. That adds up. Then add in the insane heat the Vega cards put out.

      it'll probably be more expensive than the 1070 here i presume. the 1070 is like 420€ here while the rx vega 64 is like 650€ here. since the TDP of the 54 is just 100$ lower i do presume that the vega 54 won't be below 500€.

    Vega actually gets massively more power efficient when you use the balanced/power saving profiles and actually only result in a fairly small performance hit.
    That said 1070-1080 performance at a cheaper price was all I really expected or wanted from Vega, most of us won't have the
    cash lying around to pick up a $1000 GPU anyhow.

    I honestly think that the bundles are not that bad for the launch of Vega. After a month or so I think that once companies like Sapphire and Asus start making their coolers for the Vega cards, AMD will change the price of the Liquid Cooled 64 from $699 to something more reasonable like $629 or $649. Or at least, I hope that's what they do
