I have one; best dog ever! She's either an angel or devil, never in between. She either wants affection or she wants to play~ The whole extended family adores her; we just lag on the brushing. This video was very accurate~ They are puppies forever.
The best thing about wheatens really is that they never loose their youth no matter how old they get. My baby girl Max had her loving puppy personality all the way up to the end of her days. Greatest breed ever.
When I was seven years old, my parents got a wheaten for me and my brother for Christmas. We loved him so much, and people I knew told us that he was one of their favorite dogs, even friends who had had many dogs in their lives. Toby passed away earlier this year. Just found this video and I'm getting a little choked up. I forever love my puppy
Aww i watch this and cry because I miss my Wheaten so much! He was the best dog ever! They are truly one of the best dog breeds Ive ever had and I was highly suggest them to anyone
My wheaten had such crazy amounts of energy. It took veery long walks to get him still for the evening. Amazing friend though, my parents (dentists) used him for calming nervous patients. He would sit in their laps during the check-ups. Word of warning though, some of them truly are jesters from birth, no matter the energy you give into them they still will have more than you. Stubborn little terriers!
Johan Nilsson My folks have one and I dogsit for them sometimes. I took her out for several hours to the state park nearby. A 2 hour nap later, and she was whining at me to take her out again. Very high energy indeed.
Today is my Wheaten terriers 11th birthday. I got her from my father when I was 11 (so you can guess how old i am.) She was such a blessing, she would sit by my father's side all day util someone got home, she was a therapy dog at a local nursing home and since she had been around my father and his wheelchair all her life she wasn't afraid of anything. She was hyper and playful but if you weren't feeling well or needed love, she was right there next to you. Best friend a girl could ask for.
They really don't lose the puppy inside of them. I've had three wheatens now. Two passed. One is around six or seven now. Though you see the point where they go from puppy to adult dog with their fur turning white, they will be bouncy, playful, and loving to their last days. :)
My family had an Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier from the time I was three until he sadly passed away when I was fifteen. But we found another great dog, our Wheaten Terrier, Auggie. The runt of the litter, he really is the cuddliest thing on four legs.
My boy Oscar just turned 1 last weekend. What a year its been. First of all, he's a gift from God. Secondly, he ate one of my shoes last night. Don't let that turn you off. He will sit or lay down with hand commands, but he is young at heart and always will be. We groom him ourselves as it seems most groomers don't know how to groom them and cut the beard and faux off or too short. I like my Wheaten to look like one.
I had one of these. He was seriously stupid in a really cute way, always so friendly and had such a good nature. He hated being groomed, though. Used to really fight back and that was the only time I ever saw him be truly aggressive.
. . . soo sorry for your loss , we also had to do the same with our wheaten "Kipper" , I can hardly even now watch the tribute video I posted up here on Y-Tube without bust'n a tear . I nick named him K-Town . . . cheers from Az . usa .
Very protective, likes to bark, extremely hard headed, but makes an excellent foot warmer, relaxer, and all around ok dog. Likes to play games before I have to put it away in a cage or to do anything. Always wants to play a game. This dog likes to bark, and it licks like crazy.
A great breed. Can be emotional and very attached to their humans, so we need to be attentive to them and provide a lot of person-dog interaction. This breeds a great relationship. These dogs are Love-muffins!
that looks just like my dog! I just love this breed of dogs, and if you are thinking of buying a dog, buy a terrier because they are playful, joyful and just a fun dog to have
I love my wheatens, my newest one, murphy, is such a wildcard. Soft yet defends my family (usually barking, growling, his hair makes him look bigger then he is)!
We've had two. Snickers and Skeeter. They are FANTASTIC dogs. But be SURE to start their training early. Don't think that because they're so cute they won't try t be the boss.
My dog who’s 11 (a grey wheaten) is the chillest dog you’ll ever meet, he’s 11 and we just got him off a friend who didn’t have time to take care of him. We’ve had him for 1 year, but before we owned him he was hit by a car and also got in a fight with a pitbum (pit bull) and wasn’t so lucky. But he is completely fine now. He also loves snow and his name is Copain (that’s buddy in French cuz we live in Canada )
Just like our previous 3 English Sheep dogs - Only in a smaller package Love Him. Everything in video is true. Great loving comical independent dog ( most of the time ) but needs his loving time. Who doesn't!
My wheaten sandy is 2 now and she's playful and smart although she's still like a biter and pretty rough when it comes to playing with me and the other dogs, but when she sees my parents she acts cute and chill lol also she has fleas but she doesn't seem allergic ?
Love love love mine. I have four. Lost one from liver disease at 9 yrs old. So the vet said.???! It was the most painful sight to see him so sick for nearly three years bc multiple errors in diagnosis. I still think he was sick with PLN instead of liver disease. They are the sweetest and pup like even at 11 yrs old (my oldest pride and joy). Because they don't shed, my house is always clean. Well once in the while they would bring in a leaf or two from outside bc they got stuck in their beard.
I'm trying to decide if a Wheaten Terrier is the right breed for me. Could you share your experiences with their prey drive? Is it possible to teach them to accept smaller pets, or are they the type of dog that will try to kill anything they can, regardless of what the owner tells them to do? I have experience with introducing dogs with prey drive to other pets, but I am aware that there are some dogs who can never be trusted around other animals, and I'd like to keep the option of getting other pets, even once my dog is no longer a puppy.
animalobsessed1 Hello! As someone who grew up with a Wheaten Terrier, I will say that the prey drive is intense. I still have to keep my Knightly away from my frogs and giant water bugs lest he eat them! He was also known to roughouse with my cat (whom was about half his size) so that might be an issue if you have weaker animals. Mind you, these animals were bred to be vermin catchers and even as small hunting dogs so the drive there will be very difficult to control. They love to play and to play roughly so that must be taken into account. Its sometimes terrifying to watch him shake his toys and imagine that happening to one of my garter snakes! So I guess this really wouldn't be your breed but maybe with enough training then maybe you can stop it before it hurts something. -good luck! :D Also, their fur latches onto EVERYTHING xD
Thanks for the reply. Did your dog grow up with the cat he played with, or did you manage to introduce him to one when he was already an adult? Did he grow up with your other pets, or did you get them later? The fur wouldn't be a problem for me; I would mostly keep it short anyway, like I do with my current long haired dog.
animalobsessed1 He did grow up with the cat but not with my other pets. I had to train him how to stay so my garter snake can roam about the living room when he wants to explore or I show him to people. But I would not trust him to be alone with it so I have to keep a close eye on him. This could just be my dog, cause everyone is different but I'd be careful regardless.
My dog 🐕 is a cross between soft coated, Wheaton terrier/Shepherd he is a 43 lbs dog 🐕 and yes he is packed full of energy he’s face/head is soft coated Wheaton, but his body is shepherd with a shepherd tail, you may think that he is crazy 🤪 that’s the wild energy he has he wants to play with everything and everybody even after running 🏃♀️ a mile or two. Seriously he is crazy 🤪 fun.
My Wheaten is a 4 mouth old puppy she very playful and bites hard , she cries a lot when you leave the house and It take them a lot time to be potty train
I wanted this dog so bad when I was 8. I'm so glad my mom didn't cave in. I would've felt tortured. I only realized how much work a dog could he when I got one last year. It was such hardwork for someone who basically sat on his ass all day like me. But it just became a daily routine for me after a month or so.
They do stink sometimes (especially if they get wet). They do not shed. They can be cuddley, mine has gotten more and more cuddley as he's grown up (he's 11 now), but they're usually a little too high energy to lounge around on your lap.
My friend has a mix dog, and they're trying to find out what mix she is. And they know she's a poodle and she likes playing and her puppies where brown when they where born. So does anybody know the mix?
Usually! As long as you aren't allergic to their saliva you'll be fine!. I get allergy attacks if I'm around other dogs for like 20 minutes, but I live with a wheaton, and I have no problems!
My wheaten is almost 10, she's still a puppy, but she is getting slower, and more "stiff". But you should definitely go to vet, and get a thorough check, he might be able to tell the age better, and maybe there are some more serious problems than aging going on, since he can't get up the stairs.
Yes, by their look, some look the same. Norfolks, Irish, Yorkies... they all have a thing in their looks that make them similar. Personality is wher its at.
however, since terriers are so incredibly active, there is a reason why their tails are docked, not simply wanton mutilation. When hunting or chasing things the tails could get caught or injured, especially wheaten or kerries since they carry their tails high. a broken tail is many, many times more painful and troublesome than a quick nip when the pup is a few days old.
I WANT ONE SOOOO BAD!!!! I was at a pet store earlier and got to cuddle one and he fit right into my arms. What did you guys pay for yours? The store I was at was asking for almost $3000
My Wheaten loves hot weather..he is my best beach buddy..he sits behind my chair in the shade and swims to cool off. We pack lunch , water , balls , Chuckit and treats ..go for the entire day.
Still, wheatens due to their heritage and single coat feel a lot more comfortable in the cold than in heat. They are extremely resilient to rain and snow, the latter they absolutely love to play around in and as such are the most comfortable in moderate to cold climates like central to northern Europe and Central US and Canada.
I have a wheaten called Nino, they are so awesome, but I see them swim at this vid, my wheaten doesn't do that, he'll only go in the water 'till his belly
No, Wheaten's are born with a tail that will grow long. As puppies, they are traditionally docked. Back in the day, the king put a tax on dogs with long tails so the farmers docked the tails, and still today we keep the tradtion. Our breeder gave us the choice. We picked the traditionally docked tail.
HELP! My parents don't know how to take care of a dog. I have a wheaten and I'm pretty sure we got him from a puppy mill, but my parents don't give a shit. My dog bites people, barks at me all the time, his fur is matted and he smells disgusting, and even kennels and places to keep dogs while we go on vacation won't take him because he bites them. We can't even get him groomed anymore. We don't socialize him either. He just goes in the backyard. How do I tell my family that this is not the way to treat a dog???
+HeavenlyHopeful -why don't you take over the walks(an hour in the morning and again at evening) and begin to groom him. Most wheatens love the water.Look at some dog training techniques on the internet, but they're very willing to please,so reward good behaviour and yelp if he nips.He nips (bites) because he's never learned not to from other dogs.Taking him out and socializing with other dogs will teach him this-especially if the dog is a larger puppy,or a tolerant adult dog.If you care about your dog you will make the time to improve his life-and then you will have a true friend forever.
Got my beautiful baby girl Quincy, the most wonderful girl, sometimes she is in a cranky mood, can't blame her, she's gonna be twelve this year, saved her for two years ago.. Stuck in a divorce and was to be put down, but I'll saved her one day before her put down, the owner got her here, since then I've had her, she is my wonderful old lady :)
My wheaten just died a couple days ago, I loved her so much and truly recommend them to any soon to be dog owners.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs.
Sorry for your loss💔 my condolences🙏🏼💫 my aunt owns one and I love her nubby little tail. Thanks for recommending!💘
I used have a wheaten but he passed away in 2012, I still miss him :(

We just got our Wheaton this past May. She is better than we could have ever hoped and we just adore her!
Aww i watch this and cry because I miss my Wheaten so much! He was the best dog ever! They are truly one of the best dog breeds Ive ever had and I was highly suggest them to anyone
Follow my new channel if you think you'd enjoy a dose of some wheaten therapy. Such a good breed

Our was totally and utterly fearless. Alfie was amazing.
RIP Alfie.
I have a wheaten terrier that has never played with a toy and sleeps all day long but can definitely run fast. She is the cuddliest dog ever

best breed there is! I grew up with a wheaten in the 90s and he was a fantastic family dog. R.I.P Truman
I love dogs with that "surfer dude" hair that hangs over their eyes. It makes them look so much more laid back and cool.
My wheaten is so sweet and smart, I love her. The perfect dog in my eyes😭
This is the best dog in the world! Very smart, playful, full of energy, fluffy, full of love for people , and his owner! My snuggly teddy bear :)))))
I have a wheaten. What a great dog.
Indeed!
My family had a Wheaten. My dad loves this breed!!!
I have a Wheaten and they and so happy and playful. She is always there for you in your time of need and by the way we named her Brooklyn. :)
My wheaten is 4 and he still acts like a puppy. Wheatens are incredibly friendly, gentle, and especially love children and other dogs.
So true
I had one of these. He was seriously stupid in a really cute way, always so friendly and had such a good nature.
He hated being groomed, though. Used to really fight back and that was the only time I ever saw him be truly aggressive.

I have a wheaten :) She's the sweetest dog ever!

theyre soooo cute. i'm getting dogs like those
Just like our previous 3 English Sheep dogs - Only in a smaller package Love Him. Everything in video is true. Great loving comical independent dog ( most of the time ) but needs his loving time. Who doesn't!
My Wheaten just sits on the sofa looking for cats all day
My wheaten eats spiders sometimes and it's so weird
LIGHTNING LLAMA mine too
My Wheaton terroir acts like a cat, always sleeping, only playing if you want to play, only barking at new people.
Thank god mine never had the beautiful fluffy tail cropped!!
mine died around 8 due to cancer and i'm definitely itching to get another
Love my Wheaton Rex best breed ever

are they good for allegy sufferers?
I think my dog is a mix of Glenn of immal, Wheaton and another terrier or 2 in there. He's defiantly 100% terrier
They do stink sometimes (especially if they get wet). They do not shed. They can be cuddley, mine has gotten more and more cuddley as he's grown up (he's 11 now), but they're usually a little too high energy to lounge around on your lap.

How much do they shed?
They are so fluffy I own one!
My wheaton Ginger is so cute:D
How do you stop there flea allergy?
My sweetie wheatie has his hair shaved super short :3 He’s also pretty anxious (separation anxiety) and he’s on Prozac. His name is Fozzie (fuzzbutt)
My friend has a mix dog, and they're trying to find out what mix she is. And they know she's a poodle and she likes playing and her puppies where brown when they where born. So does anybody know the mix?

My wheaten was a runt she is really laid back we named her scooter my grandparents wheatens name is rylie
yesterday i bought a 12-week old wheaten! what do i name it?
what did you name him?
Yes, by their look, some look the same. Norfolks, Irish, Yorkies... they all have a thing in their looks that make them similar. Personality is wher its at.
hey does any buddy now where i can find a wheaten terrier puppy fore sale under 50 $ or less this dog is just soo cut
My Wheaten Is The Best Dog Ever(: !
if you dont brush their hair and groom them often they do start to smell and it gets oily
Named my weaten cookie :)
SO MANY !
Yes, England.

Yeap, the wheatens tail is one of its most enduring parts! Leave it on as nature intended!!
yes
my litlle wheaten terrier is 12 years old but still as play full as an litlle puppy.
he is actually turning 13 years.
How is he now?
Good for you! :D
My puppy sadie is a wheaten and she's in some of my vids .
I WANT ONE SOOOO BAD!!!! I was at a pet store earlier and got to cuddle one and he fit right into my arms. What did you guys pay for yours? The store I was at was asking for almost $3000
Darius Wilson mine was $800 from a breeder (but he was also the runt of the litter and has extremely crooked teeth)
We got ours at fursonality.com last year for $1200.
i've got a wheaten (he is the best thing that's ever happened to me) he's stille got a bit off black hair though (he is 3) .. it's rather wierd...
they don't cut the tails off. some wheatens are born with short stubby tails.
We're in Seattle, and our Wheatens did NOT like the hot weather. Keep them cool with plenty of water and ice cubes.
My Wheaten loves hot weather..he is my best beach buddy..he sits behind my chair in the shade and swims to cool off. We pack lunch , water , balls , Chuckit and treats ..go for the entire day.

I have one named Oliver! :D
I have a wheaten terrier that has short hair :).
Kyra Clarke mine too
Same
I have a wheaten called Nino, they are so awesome, but I see them swim at this vid, my wheaten doesn't do that, he'll only go in the water 'till his belly
they're tails aren't cut. some Wheatens are born with stubby tails.
No, Wheaten's are born with a tail that will grow long. As puppies, they are traditionally docked. Back in the day, the king put a tax on dogs with long tails so the farmers docked the tails, and still today we keep the tradtion. Our breeder gave us the choice. @ImLaraCroft Same thing with my wheaten boy. Makes him look so funny!
dogs 101 do video about cerry blue terrier
*kerry
My wheaten is named Shaggy
i have a wheaten terrier named polar
Most terrier breeds are remarkably similar.
Mine can't stay still
he is also allergic to wheat, chicken and egg
Is the Wheaten allergic to wheat? that was a bad pun im sorry
Where are their tails? This is so sad. My wheaten has a beautiful tail. It seems completely pointless, glad its illegal where I'm from.
@lissfaroeshare12 lol same thing to me i think its a wheaten terrier go check to a vet they'll find out
HELP! My parents don't know how to take care of a dog. I have a wheaten and I'm pretty sure we got him from a puppy mill, but my parents don't give a shit. he just need more attention..if he smells add some baking soda to his anti-ticks,lice and anti-mange powder...powder them off..he is good as new
try to touch him more often..give him dog treats..and slowly exposed him with leash outside to become more familiar with other people and dogs
use the powder technique, if he doesnt like bath...and talk to him like a friend..often
