It's amazing that the newest thing in that house was from 1971. Literally everything in there is an antique. It's also amazing that it's still standing, most houses wouldn't last for 50 years standing empty.
I was 17 in 1971, great decade, the best music, traveling was simple, and airports were a breeze to use. People actually saw you off at the gate. People were kinder, less self obsessed. If you lost your wallet you'd usually get it back with the $ inside. Your videos transport me back to a time you and others would absolutely be astounded to experience. Thanks again for all you do, been watching you since almost day 1.
So cool that the community respected it enough to leave it alone for so long. In mamy other parts of the world it would be torn down for parts, squatted on, ransacked, antiques stolen, etc etc. Nice to know ppl still respect things in some places. Beautiful furniture!❤
I enjoy and look forward to your videos because you and Danny appreciate the significance of the history for the way things were done as compared by today's standards i.e. the photographs and correspondence. I love the attention to detail you point out as well as the respect you show to everything right down to the cobwebs.
Wow, there is a 3rd party in these explorations and I believe it is spirit teaching us about our lives in the most beautiful and peaceful way. I hope more people will watch because you're really missing something not watching. It's really profound when you dwell on life in this dream like setting that Leslie and Danny are so amazing at! Thank you
Absolutely one of the nicest mansions, but to think it is now in such decay, The family look to be so prestiges and nice people. It is terrible it has been left like this and all the antiques never went to family at all, Thank you for showing this lovely home!
This beautiful place must be built sooo very well to still be standing today!!! I would love to live here!!! The antique wooden furniture is gorgeous!!! The frames on the pictures are beautiful!!! The window & door casings are beautiful!!! I love the stained glass windows!!! Everything is sooo very pristine!!! It all was all sooo well preserved!!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us Danny & Leslie! I loved it 👍🙏💕
Hermosa casa hermosos muebles para restaurar la puerta reja me encanto que pena nadie pueda aprovechar tantas cosas lindas gracias chicos desde URUGUAY SIGAN ADELANTE EN ESPAÑOL GRACIAS 😅
It's extraordinary that the house hasn't been vandalized. I want so badly to know the history of the house..I loved seeing everything inside, every single thing, including the cobwebs, but it's the house itself that fascinates me. Why was it abandoned with everything in it? Did something bad happen there? Something bad enough to make someone walk away and not look back? Ever? It's like something out of a Brontë or Dickens novel. One thing I noticed that was odd, there didn't seem to have been damage done by mice. Bed clothes and carpets maybe, but the lace curtains still hang in the windows🤔. Also, if mice had been in there for 50 years, the house would smell terrible. The odor of mice is very particular. Once you've smelled you never forget it. Yet not a single comment was made about any strange odor. Years ago in Italy, where I live, a couple of real estate agents were showing me houses. One was pretty deep in the woods in the Appennino. I stepped through the front door , turned around and stepped out again. I could scarcely catch my breath. "Was somebody murdered in this house?" I asked. The agents assured me that nothing had happened there. I told them I wanted to leave immediately and they obliged but I could tell they thought me to be just a mad American. Several weeks later while out to dinner with a friend to whom I told the story, I learned that I'd been right about the house, that a man had murdered his wife there during the 60"s. No one local would ever consider buying the house, only a foreigner would do. But no foreigner was interested in it because it was so ugly and also because of its location, buried in the woods. That sort of reaction has only happened toe a handful of times in my life, but when it does, the feeling is overwhelming. Only that one time, however, did I later learn that I'd been right.
I love that little television! When we only had three channels, there was no point in bulking up the room with anything you couldn't easily move from room to room or one surface to another.
Such a beautiful episode. This whole movie felt so personal, as if the owner was right beside you as you were exploring and telling the story of the photos, furniture and possessions thorough the house. Such a beautiful and comfortable looking property, I would love to see it restored. Such a shame it's abandoned and left to decay
Hello, Lesley! I love abandoned Portuguese houses and this must be one of the most wonderful houses you've explored. So many antiques and precious family photos in every room! I love how respectful you are about this family's memories! Danny is a skillful cameraman, as usual! Thank you for this great exploration! ❣️
lovely old mansion it is a pitty nobody has the money to restore this lovely old family mansion a lot of work will have to be done but i don t know if decendants or far family relatives still own this mansion but they could try fixing it up step by step
Thank you for sharing these wonderful stories and bringing us into the lives of the families that lived there. It's so sad that so many antiques are left behind to rot
Hey Lesley, this is really once more a wonderful video showing this huge abandoned home with a private chapel in Portugal with many still beautifully furnished rooms. A legit time capsule, considering the fact, that the location has been abandoned for about 50 years! Wonderful background music, and Danny of course did once again an excellent job with his camera. - A really very atmospheric mansion, which was so fascinating to see! - Always lovely to see how Lesley is providing some kind of new life to this place! Amazing and unique, I love it! - And - last but not least I absolutely love listening to Danny as well, because he is so knowledgeable, and he provides your video with his remarks valuable additions to your comment, Lesley. Great documentation with the unparalelled BoD quality of the highest possible caliber! Wishing you all the best, peace and kindest regards.
I just found your channel for the first time now, and I must say that I really appreciate the dignity and respect that you bring to this exploration. You have a new subscriber in me.
Lovely🎉😮. That stained glass (blue) window & that private iron or brass gate. I wonder if they will sell it? That chair is pristine and very, very beautiful. Looks comfortable too.
Hello hello Leslie and Danny from 🇺🇸 USA. I was so busy yesterday I missed the video drop. I enjoyed looking at all the old pictures and objects in this place.Thank you for sharing this with us.❤❤☮️
Really glad you got to explore this old abandoned house before it decayed more. I loved the antiques, especially that big sofa. I look forward to seeing the new place each Sunday. Thanks for sharing this wonderful exploration Lesley and Danny. ❤😮
great video, I like the way you paint a picture of what life must have been like when this house was in full operation. These big places are a business's in themselves. It would have been a full time job just running such a big place day to day. A lot of the time the occupiers abandon parts of the house as it falls apart. My sister inlaw bought a huge house in France where the previous owner just lived in the conservatory because the rest of the house was in such poor shape..
Hey Lesley and Danny, Texas USA here. Very interesting place and kinda creepy. That picture of the man on the mantle, you couldn't tell if it was a photo or a painting... back in the 50s and 60s here in US, they would paint on top of a photo, to make it look more like a painting. I have a really old picture of my brother and I that had that treatment. It was also in an ornate gold frame. I painted the frame bright green and replaced the photo with a painting of my dog. Lol I considered that an upcycle since I never liked that weird picture of my brother and I that my parents had hanging in their living room. 😂😂
Also, oil pencils were used over black and white portraits. My paternal grandfather was a professional photographer in the early 20th century. He utilized the is technique. I still have a box of his old oil pencils.
Cockburn pronounced co- burn is a sherry. Often it was a ladies drink drank neat in small sherry glasses.🍷Lovely in a trifle. Thank you for sharing another great abandoned property find. Love the Portuguese furniture ❤
I think the iron doors inside were used to keep airflow going through the house and to keep it cool in summer and hot in winter while giving some form of privacy from room to room.
Hi guys! I have to say, you must spend many, many hours of research just to fiind these Gems that you exporlore, I find that in itself very impressive 👍😊. I love your style, respectfulness, and just how you tell everyone's story with a touch of TKC❤! See you in the next one..and this place ws in phenomenal condition considering it's age!
In about 1976, I traveled around Europe on a motorcycle. I stopped once at a bed and breakfast house on the Mediterranean coast before Marcelles. It was run by an old lady. I was given this massive room with very high ceilings to stay overnight. It was full of ornate furniture and the double bed was huge. The bed faced a wide French door wall facing the sea and the large boulders outside. All night you could hear the roaring ocean and the waves hitting the rocks. I never got the continental breakfast in the morning. After, I continued along the coast to Italy. This was a unique time and I never appreciated it fully. I traveled along the highways with the wind in my face and saw all the wonderful sights and cultures. A great sense of freedom.
On some of the furniture, such as the simple stick chairs, if you look at the under part of them you could possibly find the dates they were made and also the initials of who made them. You might be surprised at what you find. Just a thought.
Hello Lesley and Danny! I am only one year old when the house was left abandoned. 😂I am old lady 👵 now. But the place is very nice wood furniture and many old pictures. Very interesting place 🤔 👌 👍 ❤
I don't understand the rules of law for abandoned property? If it wasn't left to anyone in a Will, or distant family relative? Does the State not take ownership?
Roman catholic priests don't usually live in their family home. They are assigned a parish by the bishop, and they get moved around every four or five years. At least over here in the US, they do that. I did not see any water damage, so the roof is still good. Some declutering and a thorough cleaning it would be quite livable. Those couches are probably stuffed with horse hair, so they should be quite valuable. I'm surprised the local government has not taken it over by now and put it up for auction for past taxes. Where is your brother Leslie? I cannot remember his name. Is he going to university?
Is it possible that this home was built in the 1700s? The blocks used in construction are HUGE and the wooden front door is MASSIVE. It looks like a feudal mansion to me. I love the sun porches on these older European homes. I am guessing the chairs were used to host weddings in the chapel or he was storing them for the church? Also, Portuguese white port is the best EVER.
The framed pieces on the chest, were sacred masses in Latin. Each mass for various occasions. Seminaries were religious colleges, essentially those were Joachim's college buddies 😊
It's amazing that the newest thing in that house was from 1971. Literally everything in there is an antique. It's also amazing that it's still standing, most houses wouldn't last for 50 years standing empty.
Except for those plastic hubcaps on top of the safe, of course...
Great video

The reason for chairs used in old photos is so the people are able to hold very still during the photo taking process.
I just found your channel for the first time now, and I must say that I really appreciate the dignity and respect that you bring to this exploration. You have a new subscriber in me.
so, no mortgage, no relatives who inherited or have been informed about it.
Great question!
Lovely🎉😮. That stained glass (blue) window & that private iron or brass gate. I wonder if they will sell it? That chair is pristine and very, very beautiful. Looks comfortable too.
I LOVE THIS HOME
Favolosa questa esplorazione... favolosa!
another awesome post
If someone abandoned this castle 70 years ago, how can you say that nobody remember? Someone cannot be nobody.
I think Joaquin is pronounced "Wha Keen". A shame that the country does not take possession and save some of these antiques that are museum quality.
No, the pronunciation is J. The "wha" thing is more close to Spanish 😉
The Spanish pronunciation of Joachim is correct..Wha Keen as far as I know too.
Thank you so much for sharing this ill make a painting out of it

My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
