Another truly great production. I don’t know if I’ve heard the story of 'the concubine in Givah' before.
Whilst the behaviour of the townspeople in Givah was repugnant, unforgivable and monstrous. I’m not certain that the actions of the Levite were too on form either!
He ought to have been protecting his concubine, not throwing her to the wolves.
I wonder how he would be received in today’s society for pushing a young woman out to a creepy mob?
It is little wonder she had left him, he probably didn’t treat her well or afford her the respect she deserved.
She would have been better off sending him on his way when he turned up at her father’s house.

Thank you for this presentation. You alluded to it when you said Benjamin's actions were sodomy 8:48, but I think it deserves to be highlighted. That story draws direct parallels to Genesis 19, when the men of Sodom attempted to rape Lot's guest, Lot instead offered his two daughters. This parallel communicates to us that Israel at that time became the very thing they were suppose to supersede, Sodom. Instead of becoming a light to the nations, they became like darkness. But what prevented their destruction like Sodom, was God's loving faithful (Hesed Emet) covenant with them.

    • @sydyidanton5873
      @sydyidanton5873 ปีที่แล้ว

They occurred hundreds of years apart! The events of S & G happened in Abraham's lifetime. This event occurred well after the Exodus from Egypt!
The destruction of S & G was NOT due the handful of depraved townspeople that arrived at Lot's home demanding he hand over the 'travellers'. It was to do with corruption, idolatry, disrespectful violent behaviour and lack of tolerance and hospitality for strangers in their midst (as was the townspeople of Givah).
It was centred on the complete wickedness and evil of the people who were materialistic, cruel, malicious and lacked compassion.
The term 'sodomy' and 'sodomise' has been completely blurred over time due to the Christian interpretation of it meaning homosexual rape. It has then evolved in the English (likely other languages also)vernacular and legal parlance to mean a specific type of sexual penetration.
That is NOT its meaning in biblical text. The Mishnah and more 'recent' Talmudic explanation provides the context that the necessary brevity of the Torah doesn’t.
To sodomise is to act in a vile reprehensible manner, acts of violence for personal gain, instant gratification and materialistic desires at the expense of others.
This includes murder, rape, incest, adultery, embezzlement and many other acts of selfish wickedness. The events in question with full context suggest the intentions of the townspeople were not exclusively, or perhaps even likely, a carnal desire but an act of violence and humiliation. As has been demonstrated throughout history, men raping other men is not an act of homosexual desire but an act of control and humiliation, as it is in many scenarios irrespective of gender or type of act committed!
This disturbing obsession Christian biblical students and clergy over the evil of homosexuality is pathological, along with many other misinterpreted finger-wagging subjects is demonstrative of their lack of comprehension of the texts, the absence of full information and context, combined with the arrogance they claim to be experts on the literature. They’re only reading the 'highlights' and not the other material.
Perhaps it isn’t entirely their fault as there are many mistranslations and misinterpretations in documents published for them and sold as 'Gospel', the most accurate and correct documents ever!. It is the equivalent of reading the abstract of a scientific journal article and claiming full comprehension of not only the full research undertaken, but the entire science of the subject also.
Haredi yeshiva students spend their lifetimes studying/arguing* ALL of the documents in their unadulterated original text and not even they claim to be experts.(usually)
*discussion challenging intellectual views and interpretation for the purpose of expanding views, not highly emotive disrespectful polarised viewpoints persuasion.

Not entirely correct... The Israelites were not originally from Egypt! They were originally one of the many native Canaanite tribes who lived in that land. Some of them moved to Egypt due to drought and financial issues, that's where they got stuck in Egypt and became slaves for few hundred years... But some Israelites never left Canaan... The Hebrew slaves simply returned back to their original homeland after suffering persecutions and slavery abroad.

There's an amazing archaeological site of an ancient alter that was discovered in 1980 on Mount Ebal, that fits perfectly the story about Joshua Ben-Nun and the alter he was ordered to build on that exact same place: (Joshua 8:30) "Then Joshua built an altar unto the Lord, the God of Israel, in mount Ebal".
Of course there's no way to prove the connection between archaeology and stories from ancient history with 100% certainty, but many of the ancient places that are mentioned in the Jewish bible still exist in Israel today, and many of them has incredible archaeological findings that leaves no room for doubt... I mean, how do you explain finding an ancient alter from the 13 century BC, which is about 100 years closer to the time of Joshua Ben-Nun, on top of the exact mount that mentioned in the Bible??? Incredible stuff!

In a similar way that all people are immigrants outside of Africa. Native Americans didn't spawn from the ground, they came from Asia and with time were considered native to America. The Sami People are an asiatic ethnic group that settled in northern Europe and was considered native over time. Hungarians came from Asia and settled in Europe, they're native Europeans. People always migrated and mixed with local populations. The Bible is more story than history. I would say that the Israelites didn’t conquer the land as much as settle and intermarry with the indigenous population and assimilate with them. That makes more sense than blowing horns at a fortified wall and the walls broke down while using stone tablets to crack open a stone wall.
The Bible has significant inaccuracies scattered throughout. Like a woman being impure double the time for giving birth to a girl as opposed to a boy. That the earth was created in 6 days. That the earth is only 6,000 years old. That the anti Christ will come along and bear the mark of the beast or 666 which in Greek stood for Nero which incidentally was the name of a demonic Roman emperor notorious for persecuting Christians.

With the fall of empires and accompanying lawlessness, a confederation of hill tribes formed to plunder the ruins. Then they made up stories about how they destroyed all the cities themselves.

The Egyptian timeline is held to some debate. The exodus actually happened earlier, during Amenhotep II reign in 1446. In the beginning of kings it says that Solomon began to reign after such and such years after arriving in the land of Canaan. Do the math, and Amenhotep II was succeeded by a second one child, the first whom died, the only pharaoh in any given timeline for the exodus to have lost a son. Thought to be the Hyksos during this time as well

Lol.. When are y'all going to realize that the Israelites / Jews ARE THE CANAANITES the ancient Canaanite deities are the same ones spoken of in the bible El ( Elohim ), Yaweh, Baal, etc.. Jews definitely did not combine El and Yahweh to create their God lol. Ur right in that El, Yahweh, and Baal were pagan Canaanite deities that are referenced in the Torah and Bible. However, they are referenced because Israelites were instructed by their God/YHWH = YEHOWAH= JEHOVAH (in English) not to worship those gods/idols of the land. However, considering the Israelites settled in the land of Canaan and established the nation of Israel...i mean...i guess you're right in saying that they are geographically descendents of Canaan. Hebrew is considered to be a ancient Canaanite language so...yeah.

The Palestinian people are descendants of the Philistines, who were from the area around what is known in modern times as the Sinai and Gaza Strip and stopped just south of Jaffa (modern-day Tel Aviv). That was it. When the Romans exiled the Jews, they gave the land all the way to the Dead Sea to the Philistines. It was never theirs to give in the first place.

Archaeological evidence shows the settlement of Jericho around 10,000 BC. , one of the oldest settlements in the world by a non-Jewish indigenous Levantine people, Jerusalem was settled around 5,000 BC, Bethlehem in 2,200 BC by non-Jewish indigenous peoples. All great civilisations throughout history have referred to the land as Palestine. Starting with the ancient Egyptians( who called the neighbouring land "plst" in 1150 B.C.), via Herodotus ( who described the whole territory as "Palaistinê" in the 5th century B.C.) and the Islamic scholars( who drew on the knowledge of the ancient Greeks) to the British. According to the Bible, the so-called Jews/Israelites were different from the indigenous Levantine/Canaanite peoples. They were enemies. The Jews/Israelites were foreign invaders who over time adapted/stole language, belief systems, circulating myths, culture etc. from the Canaanites and Mesopotamians. According to the Quran, Banu Israel was cursed by God because they committed the worst sins, such as taking interest, murdering prophets and spreading lies.
