Not for lack of effort by a bunch of !@#$ in the 1800s. Those pictures of 20 feet high bone piles next to the railroads were disgusting and took way too long to put an end to.
back then bison were bigger then they are today, we also had some species that hypothetically, could be viable to bring back. Due in large part to genetic descendants alive today.@@Floppy_Fish23
They CAN get into some trouble with hoof stuff though. I know for cows if they just step in the wrong way on concrete BOOM hoof problem. (I'm a big fan of Nate the Hoof Guy).

I just had to try and count. Fascinating, so I re-watched it. I didn't try to count em1 by 1, but as close as I could get, in groups of 10. I came up with 140 until the 2nd set came up. Then about 30 more, for an unofficial count of 170. Also, it didn't seem like the buffalo wanted to run into em. When they saw the car, they tried moving to the other side of the road. It's almost as if they were planning "hey, there's an object here that I'll need to avoid." Good stuff on the video. Thanks.
You can tell that those are bison because they have horns on the sides of their heads. buffalo have horns on the top of their heads. and bison are native to parts of Europe and North America.Buffalo are native to Africa and Asia.
An amazing sight to witness. Made me smile on a very cold, snowy winters morning here in Cymru ( Wales) UK Diolch am wneud fi gwenu( Thank you for making me smile) 😁👍
Seems like they are trotting. Because they aren't out of control, I think that technically doesn't count as a stampede, although I don't blame you for using the more colorful title. A true galloping fear-driven stampede would be a different level of intimidating.
If they were feeling mischievous , I’m pretty sure they could have teamed up to knock the car into the ditch . Luckily, they are not like humans, with sinister motives.🤣
Keep in mind a huge majority of roads are built on animal trails, so odds are they are taking the same route their parents and grand parents took it's the humans that probably did the taking not the bison.
Take a summer seasonal job. Housing and food, uniforms are provided. The concession headquarters is located in Gardiner MT (and they hire all year long). You'll meet people from all over the world.
Those aren't buffalo though😯 Those are bison . Buffalo have extremely less fur, much larger horns, and are more docile. Bison are hairy stinky unfriendly beautiful beasts 😊
Great comment. In days of old, when employees didn't have cars, they would hitchhike with the tourists. My first summer was '85. And my roommate made a sign that said "Park Employees, Late for Work". That sign worked for us!
It looks like they're wearing fuzzy britches 😁😁😁😁😁!!!!!!! I got be close to one while on vacation in Yellowstone many years ago. I've marveled at the ever since. Watching them makes me feel happy.
Watching the video I just envisioned a buffalo hunt. I can hear the Natives whoop with excitement. The buffalo stampeding. I hear the twang of the bow. Such a picturesque view. They are the most sacred and magnificent animal in my opinion.
Thank God these magnificent beasts didn't go extinct.

Well these are not true buffalo, these are descended from ranch buffalo
Amen. People back then were truly disgusting.@@TheRadioAteMyTV
Imagine being in that exact location, and then time traveling back to the 1700s.
there were millions back then
@@forexed8948 60 million, vs today's population of 30k wild bison + 500k farmed bison.

@Floppy_Fish23 this same exact stampede but with Bison Latifrons.
Or hell even mammoths

It's amazing how modern roads have become a normal thing to them. Even Buffalos are like "Dude I don't like walking on uneven terrain"
Yeah they are like “look at this convenient even pathway for us to run!”
Only 3% of the park is visible from the road. They even like the snow groomed roads in the winter.

Crazy how some of them have different running motions than others
They probably think the same thing about cars.
I don't know where the buffalo are going , but if they are leaving , people should be following !!!!!!

"Oh look, Sire, the herd is on the move."
Odd

And just think, this is nothing compared to the herds of thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) that used to roam the prairies.
My thoughts exactly, and not to mention this is no where near their top running speeds
Looks like the women from my office, running to Pizza Hut buffet at lunch

let's not be dramatic here
Its like bikers in South park, they like to show off together.
I've got a saying "don't worry about the stampede, worry about what they're stampeding from"
Totally. Wolves.
This was no stampede so no worries at all, except to be left with the question, where are their wings?

It must be like a minor earthquake as they pass by

Are they headed towards the exit?
They are going to see a free screening of the film Where the Buffalo Roam so they can roast it like Rocky Horror.
Such a rushing herd is impressive :)
