Wow!!! That is awesome! Really brings home the fact: if you can't go fast on a 300, you're not going fast on a literbike. Even if you think you are, you're really not. This is the way to do it! I will be watching this again and again......
Max's first word was motorcycle my man. He literally grew up at the race track with all of the Sportbike Track Time Staff up here in Michigan. We are very thankful STT was able to make getting him on the track last year happen at his age. Thanks for watching and the kind words! - Brian Van
Awesome job Max. Your are on the race line and maintaining it very well. Great job on your corner speed. Coming out turn 4 going up the hill, hug that right (get your right knee right over that curbing) and aim for the corner worker station, sets you up perfect for the drive down into Charlotte's Web. Coming into turn 10 (high speed kink), be to the inside and shoot a straight line into the inside of turn 11, that is the fastest way through that section and will help drop some time as well pick up speed for going into turn 12.
Thanks for the kind words and the advice. We are headed back to ride with Sportbike Track Time the day after the MotoAmerica Barber round this month. If all goes according to plan Max will be getting some one on one coaching from my man Chris Ulrich. Max rode pretty good considering this was the first time he rode Barber and he fell for the first time (one session before this video). Having the videos from this trip to review will help him make the most out of the time with Chris. We will have a camera on the bike and post the video to compare the before and after. For my Wife and I the most important thing is making sure Max is safe on track. Like speed, safety is a direct result of having a strong fundamental base. We are using the camera and a GPS timer to gather data to review what he is doing out there to help him build that skill set so we can enjoy riding together for the next 22 years or so. - Brian Van
He did awesome for his first time there. I was very intimidated my first time there but every year get a little better. I still have sections to work on every time I go there to race. The advice I offered is advice that was given to me by some front runners at a WERA event who I worked with throughout my last race season. That is awesome if that all pans out. Chris is phenomenal and Max can definitely take away a lot from what Chris has to offer. Max is very fortunate to have these opportunities and I hope you all cherish these lasting memories. Crawl, Walk, Run.........Fast is smooth and smooth is fast.
He really impressed me by riding better after the crash than he did before it. Getting back out there and getting right back after it is not always easy to do. Thank you for watching! - Brian Van
He is a pretty lucky little dude for sure. I never really rode much at all until I was 30ish myself. That will be the excuse I will use every time he passes me on the outside! - Van
He corner speed does look pretty darn good. For that reason I will make dam sure he is on a 300 and I am on a 1000 the first time we ride together! I am proud to be a straight away blaster and a corner camper! Have a sponsorship application in with KOA Campgrounds right now. - Brian Van
That is his long term goal right now. There is a lot of work to be done before he is ready to compete at that level. He will be racing the R3 with Wera for sure next year at Grattan. If that goes well we may hit a couple others. Thank you for the kind words! - Van
He did pretty decent for his first visit to Barber. This is an old Go Pro camera he had that we threw on the gas tank so I could see what he is doing out there. We will have some 360 degree Garmin videos up pretty soon from Grattan here in MI. - Van
This is my nephew Justin right here. I hear you are kicking some ass on the football field this year! Keep it up and make sure you hit the books as hard as the dudes on the other team! - Uncle Brian

Absolutely right, confidence is everything! Good to see Max back on the track and doing very well I might add.
Thanks!
Nice work Max! I’m really impressed with your progress since coming to Grattan at the end of ‘17!
I remember the early years when little Max made guest appearances. Now he’s a track monster who would embarrass me. My how time flies.
