- Did I mention that they used this to pack silage? Let's remove the belly pan and drain the oil to see what things look like! 1945 Cat D4 crawler 5T3171, wide gauge.
This tractor shares many parts in common with 4G9986, "Lil lefty." Including the D4400 engine! The debate is on, use for parts or keep for a future project? I think Dad has already fell in love with it! I hope you enjoy the shop talk, banter and commentary.
Thanks for watching!

Did I mention that they used it to pack inslage? 😂🤣😂
It did look good for a while, but it seems there's always "one more thing"!
I get a kick out of you and your Dads banter! Still my favorite youtubers!
Thanks Tom!
Yikes!
Loving the content! It's hard not to want to save them all.
Reviewing past videos👍
Definitely recommend pulling it apart and looking inside sometime down the road that was a bunch of water 😮 great video thanks for sharing
We are definitely going to tear it down. Thanks for watching!
Good luck with that one day
We have another running D4400 engine for a swap if needed. Thanks for watching.
Do you save your non watered down engine oil in a drum. Letting it settle. Then pumping from the top to have oil overfill cat engines in storage. So the cam and sprockets are covered. Or at least deep enough that hand barring the engine will spread it over the cam sprockets.
No we haven't but that's a great idea I think we're going to use in the future appreciate it, thanks for watching Wayne!
Hope you kept the receipt, for the cap
😂
Personally I think the head gasket got blown out cause of serious overheat. No other way to pull the head and find out what is stuck and what it looks like inside.
If you pull the head off and you find the head gasket is defective there’s still a chance the block may not be cracked because the amount of water that came out was in the oil pan and the antifreeze and oil would be higher maybe above the oil pan so maybe there’s some hope 😀🇨🇦
I think that's the next thing we're going to try. When we get the head pulled there might be some obvious signs. Thanks Keith!
I believe THE NORTHWEST HILLBILLY TH-cam just rebuilt his d4 he had a motor and knowledge you might be able to use good luck with the repairs. As always have a great day
Thanks, I do watch his channel. 👍
Are you looking for another D4? I have a narrow gauge D4, hydraulic blade, runs, drives, steers both directions, 24 volt electric start, good undercarriage. Located in northeast Iowa if interested.
Not at the moment, maybe an the future we will.
heck put a die in her and fire it up to ensure you hopefully see the leaky area on tear down
