    I’m working on my own castle moc but these give me too much inspiration for my minimal sized bank account (and you know why it’s small)and also at number 8, my brain got incredibly confused about that minifigure like “why is the figure small?” Or “this moc is huge”

    Woah! Look at number 16's building technique. The way the rocky terrain is built at angles to make it look natural...
    It deserves an A+ ! 😀👍👍

    • @laefg
      @laefg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fr, it was way too low rockwork is hard and especially when using ball joints among other joints then it becomes really difficult but beautiful.

  • @matthewneuendorf5763
    @matthewneuendorf5763 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Natural rockwork is one of the things I find most difficult, and one of the most consistently impressive achievements of most great castle MOCs. Nearly every entry on your list has done truly amazing work with terrain, but especially with rock faces.
    One of my biggest complaints about castle MOCs is the treatment of merlons and crenels. A merlon should be tall and wide enough for a minifigure to hide behind, while crenels should be deep enough for a minifigure reasonably to attack through. It would also be nice if folks put somewhat more thought into just how the defenses of a castle are supposed to work, not just the curtain walls and towers, but gates, sally ports, interior pathways, and even approaches and surrounding structures.
    The historical pedant in me really dislikes all the overgrown foliage and vines. They compromise fortifications and any castellan worth his salt would have his men keep the castle clear of anything like them.
    Perhaps the single most impressive thing in any of the listed MOCs is #1's snow. It's not just replacing pieces with white, but actually layering onto the underlying structure. That's not something you see very often, and I have to imagine it takes a great deal of planning to execute effectively.

    • @Goldfyre
      @Goldfyre  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Natural rockwork is HARD.

    Lore for the MOCs:
    The Siege:
    The Lions and Falcons, being the most powerful kingdoms in the land, are well known rivals. So war is always around for these two.
    Cerfus the Cruel:
    King-Emperor Cerfus was the Black Falcon who started the conquest of the clans. He showed no mercy towards both his enemies and his allies, because of this he gave the nickname Cerfus the Cruel. If people tried to rebel against him, he’d put it down immediately.
    Journey of the Black Falcons:
    There are three friends on a journey. On the way they stopped at an outpost located on the southern river cliffs, not too far from the Lion Kingdom.
    The Harbor:
    This harbor, built by the Raven Knights, is located on the northern coast of the Ghis Desert. With this, the Ghis is starting to become tropical in the northern regions.
    Echoes of the past:
    There are two crown knight brothers in this part of the Crown Kingdom. The younger one is sitting down writing his discoveries in a letter. The older one is at the top looking across the horizon, wondering what is out there.
    The Medieval Castle:
    This castle is built by a guild composed of outcasts, bandits and raiders exiled from their kingdoms. As time went on, a town was formulating around it and soon it would become the capital city of a new kingdom.
    The Wagon:
    The Raven Knights introduced better wagons to the orcs when they arrived. This allows them to traverse better in the desert to trade their goods.
    Blackwood Forest:
    Remember those outcasts earlier, well they didn’t just build the castle and town. They built a fishing village and port in Blackwood forest. It’s called Blackwood, because on the other side is the borders of the Black Falcon Kingdom.
    The Crimson Falcon Forest:
    The forest gained its name from the crimson wood it offers. It is located on the other side of Falconcove Port, there is also an outpost used by the Black Falcons on a tiny island just close enough from the forest.
    The Windmill:
    This windmill is build located on some farmland on the outskirts of Crimson Falcon Forest.
    The Black Falcon’s Nest:
    This outpost is built on the outskirts of Falconcove port to watch out for any incoming attacks. Most likely from the Vikings.
    The Black Towers Keep:
    Another clan that escaped the Falcon’s grasp is the Bear Clan. They fled into the Lionswood, where they built a new kingdom and have become the Bear Knights. Hopefully, they’ll come into contact with the Forest Men.
    Winter’s Embrace:
    The Village of Winter’s Embrace is located in an unknown location in the north. It is build by a clan of herders.
    Castle on the shore:
    This is built by the survivors of a forgotten kingdom. They probably were defeated by the Falcons or the Lions.
    The Woodland Outpost:
    This outpost is build by a group of knights, defiant against the other kingdoms. They are allies with the Forest Men.
    The Black Falcon Knight:
    This knight was one of many great warriors of his time. He died during the conquest of the clans, due to his heroic actions a statue was built in his honor.
    The Trebuchet:
    The Lions had set up a trebuchet as they are about to siege a Falcon Castle.
    The Bridge of Solitude:
    This bridge is built connecting to a path in Crimson Falcon Forest.
    The Red Keep:
    The Red Keep is a castle built by the kingdom of outcasts.
    Winter in the Raven’s Wharf:
    The Ravens had managed to reach to the north, without the Black Falcons noticing. Hopefully, the wharf will become their new capital.

    The thing I love most about Winter in the Ravens Warf (besides it generally being spectacular) is that it proves you don't HAVE to have a bunch of crazy angles in a MOC to make it look amazing. Most if it is built in the classic squares and rectangles of Lego, but you'd never notice!

  • @henrydegroff4282

    In this video and others, you have said that using small parts and extremely "detailed" techniques to construct castle walls is the way to go. Quite frankly, this just isn't true. While you can like what you like, many, many real castles were made with large blocks of stone. Castles were made purposefully with very smooth walls, that would often be covered in a plaster layer. I guess I'm just trying to say extremely detailed castle walls are cool, but honestly a bit over done.
