    We do pretzel bites instead for less work but our recipe boils in baking soda water. It is really easy to do with a quick flip or dunk to cook the dough. Then you bake and the recipe calls for melted butter and then the coarse salt but you could easily do water or any other oil lightly to stick the salt. I hope he finds a pretzel recipe he likes but ours is from Dine & Dish. We use the bread machine but probably easy to find one by hand or mixer.

    To keep those lovely pretzels from burning, maybe try an insulated baking sheet? It is actually my favorite "cheat" when making cookies. Excellent job, momma!

    That outside summer kitchen will be a blessing. My German Russian family always had a summer kitchen. Bake bread. All you need now is it oven. I have seen on TH-cam how to build a outdoor oven. The man name is Townsend. Things for colonial times. A great educational project for the children.

    He is such an inspiration for those young and old searching for the dreams of baking. It’s a beautiful thing to see a young one with so much interest in a lost life skill. It’s unfortunate that such a requirement for life isn’t being taught in so many homes. I hope he continues to chase that dream.

    David may I suggest using baking soda in boiling water to get that darker color and pretzel taste. Just don't add baking soda to boiling water as it makes a volcano mess on your stove. I have been cooking and baking for 50 years and I still make mistakes!!! Lol. I tie my pretzels into a knot and use a slotted spoon to add and flip the dough in the boiling water. You can also make pretzel buns for hamburgers in this way and they are yummy. Wishing your family a blessed Easter!!

    Greetings from Germany - the home of Pretzels. As far as I know, the water with the dissolved Soda must be nearly boiling hot. And the shaped dough should swim in it for round about 30 - 60 seconds. Have agreat Easter!

    Had a small garden with my neighbor and he would measure but not me.Guess what they all tasted the same.Once everything started growing you could not tell if they were straight or not.

    Wonderful video! For Gabe’s pretzels-an egg wash then sprinkle the salt on, that works wonderful. When my girls and I have made them, the one recipe we follow calls for us to put them in boiling soda water. Then we pull out, place on parchment paper, brush with egg wash and top with coarse salt.
    We are getting another snow storm. 2 weeks ago we were a muddy mess, now have 18+ inches on the ground.

    Not sure if someone has already said this, but when I make pretzels, I put them in boiling water with lots of baking soda for about thirty seconds and brush them with butter (or oil in your case) that seems to brown them nicely.

    David is 10 times a better baker than me. I keep trying to master bread baking and failing. I need to learn how to make gluten-free bread. So David is great at what he does. He even encouraged the little one to try the soup.
    That last shot of you holding your little one, I can clearly see- he looks just like you! 100%.

    Love the out door kitchen and we are in Michigan and ready for the wreathes to change. We are planting a garden with our 5 grandchildren for the first time .       Last year I also started my first vegetable garden in years with my grandchildren. It was amazing to see their individual gifts and interests grow and develop. (I’m also in Michigan). Blessed Resurrection Day to your family.

      I've tried canning outside and I found that I had to put something up as a windshield around my cook stove and my canners it was too hard to control the temperature in the canner due to the wind cooling them off at the top it sure was an easy when we just opened a cardboard box and wrapped it around three sides of the cooktop

    Happy Resurrection Day! My pretzel recipe that I wrote down awhile back calls for cooking the pretzels in a water baking soda mixture on the stove. Might be another idea for him to try. 🙂 Can't wait to see what recipe he finds for the pretzels. Always fun to see what neat recipes he makes. Also that was a great idea for the pretzel cheese!!! I so miss dipping pretzels in cheese. I am going to have to give it a try. One of the many reason I love following is because of the great dairy free recipe ideas.     I peel my garlic and put them in a jar and fill with olive oil or similar to what you do as well. I do like that you use the greens of the Garlic! I am learning!!! Thank you.

    I love it that he enjoys baking so much it’s a joy to watch him learn and your a great mama for encouraging him! Maybe he can try parchment paper or a silicone mat for oven might be good and could be reused over n over just a thought but happy baking!! plants looks awesome by the way and love your new outdoor stove

    We live in western NC no central heat/air (we do have a window unit AC that is just enough to help keep the edge off on super hot days). We set up an outside kitchen a couple years ago on our deck. We've added a 2 burner camp stove this year, similar to your 3 burner, mainly for canning. Best thing we ever did was set up that kitchen! Baking and canning are great hands on learning tools for chemistry, math/fractions and cooking/baking life skills. Great job, mom!

    My mom would always make crocked rows(she spread those genetics to me😆). One of my grandparents told her that more seeds fit in a crocked row!!

    One of the girls at Heartway Homestead has a recipe for pretzels that tastes good. Love the summer kitchen. That's one of my goals for this year. I need a three burner stove for canning.

      That's exactly what I was going to suggest! They looked delicious! If I remember right, Julianne's recipe had them going through a water bath of some sort, and an egg yolk wash to get the shine

    I have recently discovered that I LOVE radishes! My favorite way is to enjoy them raw, sliced with a sprinkle of salt. I have sauteed them in olive oil, and roasted them in the oven as well. I have tossed the leaves with spinach leaves and beet leaves for a wonderful salad. Radishes are delicious! I have not tried them pickled yet, though.

    Love all you do and that your children are all so helpful..you are an inspiration to me. I'm way past babies and little ones. I adopted 4 of my grandchildren each at birth . They are my 2nd litter as I jokingly say. They are now 20 down to the only girl just turned 16. I also have another boy here that just turned 14 he's been with us for 3 or 4 years now. I work and have property that I try to keep up on and have hopes of getting in a small garden this year. I live in a very hot part of Southern California near wine country Temecula. So I love all your gardening tips and tricks they are so helpful. Bless you and your family on this Easter weekend and always. The 3 youngest ones are getting baptized at Church today. Watch out for those wasabi radishes I have heard they are quite on the spicy side but I have not got to try them myself yet that was one of the things I was supposed to order this year and never did.     My wonderful daughters bought the 3 burner camp stove for Mother's day last year. My main use is for canning. I love it! I am going to get the griddle to go with it too. I also would like to set up a sink,which I bummed off a remodel, so that I can maybe hook up a waterhose to and wash my produce. Do the whole thing outside. That's my plan anyways. Love your channel!     Radishes are also great grilled in the oven with olive oil & salt or tossing in air fryer. Yummy! My hubby is also type “A” engineer with straight rows. I just get the seeds in and call it good!! 😊🌻

    We've only made pretzels a few time, but boil them first. I worked in a bagel shop while in college, Always boil first. Happy Easter to you and the family.

    Radishes are one of my favorite foods to grow. I tuck them in around bigger plants to help keep the soil cool (we're in the desert). Then I use them just little little red potatoes in stew or I roast them with garlic and other veggies.

    The baking soda water is supposed to be boiling, kind of like for bagels! It will help with browning. :)

      Yes, it’s a boiling dunk done after the pretzels have been formed and had their final little proof. Also need to be baked in a humid/steamy oven. Since the pretzels were too dark on the bottom and too pale on the top, I’d preheat the oven with a cast iron pan/skillet on the lowest rack and right before putting the pretzels in pour a couple inches of boiling water into the pan and bake the pretzels on the rack above the steaming pan. I’d try the recipe again with some adjustments to the soda dunk and bake. The dough looked fine.

    My favorite method of maintaining a sustainable pantry and stockpiling items long term for the whole family and the family dog and the family cat is what I consider to be the most practical, utilizing every type of food storage methods and technology available, both old and new. . Except for the fruits and vegetables that get canned, I keep perishable items like meat, poultry, fish, fruit, vegetables and dairy products in the refrigerator on a short term basis until I'm ready to use them for a big family meal - and for even longer term sustainable storage, a large separate freezer, which can store a half side of beef with plenty of room left over for homemade ice cream etc. . I'm considering upgrading to a walk-in freezer at some point.in the near future, if my plans to open a bed and breakfast come to fruition. Sometimes, however a nice round of cheese can do well for quite awhile on a pantry shelf at room temperature - and doesn't mind even if it has to stand there alone.😁 Store bought canned goods get shelves.in the large pantry closet - several for canned meat like corned beef hash, spam and sandwich spread and another for canned vegetables Bread, rolls, grains, homemade pasta, cereals and the like are stored in special humidity controlled bins I order from Amazon Prime - which usually get delivered to my doorstep about an hour after I order them. . Stuff from the family garden and orchard, like onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, cauliflower, cucumber, pumpkins, carrots, corn celery,, potatoes and yams, cherries, blueberries and strawberries get canned in Mason Jars and stored in the cool, root cellar of this wonderful rambling former farmhouse (circa 1867) I share with my extended blended family and several rambunctious dogs raised on table scraps from the some of the finest food from a plethora of sources both commercial and home based. . There's even a special separate "summer kitchen" which I converted to store butter and ice cream churns, pots, pans, utensils, extra storage containers, foil, bags, cutlery, and other meal related accoutrement. Out back in the woods, just beyond the big pile of wood I maintain all year, (for use in an antique woodstove I keep on hand, in case the power goes out) there's even an old rusting vintage still where my great grandfather made some of the finest corn whiskey for miles. Next to it is the rusting hulk of the Ford Model A he used to transport that powerful hootch by the light of the moon on soft summer nights to his eager customers in a tri-county area. Further into this verdant forest of mostly sycamore, oak, pine and scrub, runs a cool stream into which I occasionally cast a rod or net to catch some Brook Trout, Bluntnose Shiners, or whatever takes the bait (just earthworms for the most part). And yes, hunting season means wild turkey, deer, and even an occasional wild boar. Next week, I'm planning on filing for a permit to 3-D print a smokehouse in order to be able to create gourmet artisan handcrafted, beef, bacon, turkey, and beef stick jerky, which interested local merchants can private label for other people to share with their families and their family dogs. Unfortunately, i had to break the bad news to my free range hens today that due to expected egg shortages regretfully numbered are their days of laying a couple of eggs and then basically taking the rest of the day off with ranging privileges' within the parameters of a few very nice rural acres - parts of which are rich with fat grubworms. There's even a short dirt road between the main barn and the farmhouse which they're free to cross to get to the other side as often as they'd like. My rooster Ben overheard me and he ain't too happy either, knowing full well that due to oncoming egg shortages, he'll be "workin' overtime to make sure there's plenty of eggs for me an the family. 😊😊

    Just a quick note, I have always heard not to store tin can goods in their tin can. Put in another container to store in fridge.🙂

    Pretzels need a stronger alkaline liquid for dipping. In Germany we use foodgrade lye.
    In lieu of that I had previously used a 5% lye made from drainage cleaner lye as an old baker suggested to me. Wouldn’t do that again in a hurry as there’s probably a lot of heavy metals rubbish in there but they were really yummy and exactly the taste I was looking for.
    In regards to shape, the ends of the dough snake are traditionally quite a bit thinner and therefore nice and crunchy.

    I so enjoyed this video. When the kids were picking the forsythia I could almost feel that warm breeze and it makes me want warmer weather to hit us soon. Ok did I miss it or did David video the pumpkin biscotti? I love biscotti and love pumpkin. Anyways great video. 🇨🇦💝🌷

    Oh my goodness! I was fascinated with the luffa! Not sure even how to spell it. I honestly thought it was from the ocean, lol. And I loved the soap idea. You’re brilliant. Can you eat the squash?
