Good Morning Everyone. This video is an accumulation of projects and ideas. I hope one will inspire you to try a new technique or style for one of our four legged friends. I am off on a short vacation for a few days with my husband. I'll reply to questions and comments when I can. Enjoy.
YES, I would love to see a video on raw edge quilting! I am loving the collage quilting that uses the raw edge technique. I would like to see some examples of it being done.
Thank you 🙏🏻 I just got diagnosis with cancer and mastectomy and radiotherapy. I feel happy when I look at videos.. I can manage quilts but I m not a great quilter.. Sri Lanka is a tropical island which quilt isn’t so popular.. but I did many for kids and colours makes me happy
That diagnosis is quite a lot to deal with. I'm sending you good vibrations! Quilting can help get you through the tough times. You don't have to be a great quilter (heaven knows I'm not, LOL) to be creative and self-expressive. It's all about *you* and, as Karen says, the quilt *you* want to make. When you're sad and want to express sadness, you can quilt in colors that represent sadness to you, maybe like black and dark colors, and when you're happy you can quilt in colors that represent happiness and joy to you, like white and sun-shiney yellow. So I hope you find your "sew-jo" and quilt away to your heart's content.
To keep larger bias pieces from stretching I mark my fabric on the cut lines then sew a line of stitching 1/8th inch on the inside of the lines, then cut out my block. I still starch, but this stops the stretching and distortion.
I want to do wild animals for a grown grandson . I need a site to get paper patterns to do like 10 or 12 inch blocks. Or do a raw edge appliqué type .I am not a beginner.
Karen, Add another vote for a raw edge video! This would work so well for a project I have in mind and your videos always help so much. You seem to know exactly what I need to hear and always at the right time. I’m so grateful to have found your channel. I hope you are all staying safe up there and that your son is continuing to do well.. Love from Ohio
Another designer who makes animal and other portraits is Timna Tarr. Check out her Animal Menagerie fabric as well as the blocks that inspired the fabric.
I have learnt so much from you Karen Thank you so much for your detailed, patient and clear instructions and quilting assistance Love your 30 minute timer That REALLY works for me Amazing quilt teacher
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. They are my absolute "go to " for any trouble shooting or just as a pick me up. I would be delighted to see the raw edge sewing. Especially since I want to try my hand at landscape quilts.
Wendy Gratz of Shiny Happy World has a big variety of animal applique quilt patterns that are super simple and charming. She also has free videos on her site on every step of the process. And stuffed toy and crochet critter patterns. I made her Woodland Critters quilt and was thrilled with the way it turned out.
Thanks for your excellent overview. And, as per other commentators below---would love to see a raw edge video. Your explanations are well ordered, calm, and efficient. All the best to you from the Pacific Northwest.
Bonjour Karen, I just discovered your channel last weekend and I have to say thank you! You helped me a lot for my binding, I have binge watching all your videos! And I must say that you are a very good teacher.... Have a wonderful day! Christine 🇨🇦
So many new ideas for me and love the idea of framing the fabric and printing a pets photo to make gifts for my family. I'd even have a go at the paper pieced animal patterns you've shown. Thanks for all that 😊❤️☘️
I didn't have a sewing machine when I started quilting. So EPP was my introduction to the craft and that is my method of choice. For me machine sewing is a kind to voodoo. I do not have the skills in 3 dimensionally thinking or the precision for that. I love the different methods that you showcase. Thank you for your video.
Thank you Karen for such wonderful videos. I have enjoyed everyone and often look back at them I would really like a video on raw edge applique, Thanks in advance.
I love to do fussy cuts in my quilts. I think you would like to interview Monica Poole from Pattern Poole. She and her daughter Alana are in Australia and design a lot of animal patterns. I'm in her fb group and we're doing a qayg along using the flip and stitch method and cover strips.
Yes, please I would like to learn more about raw edge applique. Is there a fine mesh laid over the top before quilting? And what is it called? Is it a type of tule?
Yes, please Karen, a tutorial on raw edge applique would be greatly appreciated. You have probably covered this in a previous video, but what spray starch do you use? Thanks, I get so much out of your videos.
anyone reading this can answer: can anyone tell me where to place the needle when making a zigzag stitch? i'm connecting capri sun pouches to make a bag. i never know where to start with the needle.
Hi Karen! I enjoy your channel very much, to me it's inspiring, I learn a lot, and I especially appreciate the quality on everything you post. I think your content is "sharp", if it makes sense :) I'm currently looking into Craftivism (by Sarah Corbett and a ton of other individuals.) I just thought it could be an interesting perspective for an interview if it resonates with you. Have an amazing Sunday!
