So for anyone still having the issue in relation to a Windows update failing and looping their system before startup, here's what I did to fix it...
1. If you can't reach the troubleshooter menu let the PC loop over and over until it goes into it itself
2. Do a system restore to a previous point in time
3. Get back to the troubleshooter menu and boot Windows into safe mode using the command prompt
4. While in Windows safe mode delete the update
5. Disconnect your internet connection and restart the PC (so it doesn't try to install the update again)
6. Your PC should now boot into Windows normally
7. Once you're successfully back in Windows disable when Windows automatically installs updates
Side note: I'm still trying to figure out why the update itself is broken. I'll edit my post with a solution to this if and when I find out what's causing it.
Hope this helps!

Couple days ago my hp laptop stopped working. So on startup there is a long wait followed by Blue error:
"recovery your pc couldn't start properly a required device isn't connected or cant be accesed 0xc0000185, enter - try again, f1 - recovery environment, f8 - startup settings, esc - uefi firm. settings."
I tried to start up again couple times. I can't acces f1 and I can't acces safe mode from f8 (these return me to error screen). I did download windows installation media on usb but not sure if it can help/how to proceed. Do you have some advice on what can I do next?

Thanks to an automatic update that failed to install earlier my pc has crapped itself hard. I can’t get to the troubleshoot screen, I can’t boot to windows by any means, my pc insists on diagnosing problems and repairing disc errors by itself to no avail and just loops.
