I'm nearing retirement, but leaning more to be seasonal tourist, meaning 6 months in Philippines and 6 months in US. Not planning in investing a property in the Philippines and maybe looking for a short term rental for a condo or townhouse. Manila is my preferred location and Baguio is my next choice.
I'm a retired expat in Manila. I've seen many channels like this. Glowing reviews with breathtaking imagery. Nonsense. Truth is, western living here is expensive. And province life lacks amenities. You can't have it both ways in the Philippines. So choose your lifestyle prior to choosing a place to live.
Thanks for sharing. My wife and I will be in Dumaguette for two weeks this coming October; we'll see what it has to offer. Although we have not entertained much the idea of retiring in the Philippines, this visit may somehow encourage us to rethink the future. By the way, I enjoy your videos. You seem to have a lot of ideas on how to better one's financial condition. I always say that if everyone thinks the way my father did, no one will be poor - you reminded me of him. Good luck to your channel, Salee.
My wife and I checked out Tagaytay and found the area too humid. It turns out the average humidity is nearly 80% all year. Tagaytay is also 55 km from the International Airport so it doesn't work that well for travel bugs like me. Lastly, Tagaytay is like Hua Hin in Thailand where it's very congested from Friday night to Sunday because of so many day and weekend trippers from Metro Manila.
thanks for sharing that 👍 Actually you're right about the weekend congestion, that's why as much as possible, we avoid the weekend when we go there...unless may rides 😊
Salee,I love the content. Keep it up. I will be moving to the Philippines soon and getting perspective from you and your channel is beneficial in allowing me the knowledge to make a successful move. As a physician, I always research everything before taking action and you are giving me a good perspective and insight on so many aspects of what I have to consider. Hopefully, by next year I will be over there and starting up my practice to live my best life as you are
Manila will always be my base. Best hospitals, hotels, restaurants, malls, supermarkets, entertainment, concerts, sporting events, internet and casinos in the country. Easy to get to Boracay or Palawan if I need a beach break. To people that say they can't relax in Manila because it's noisy have never stayed in a luxury condo on the 40th floor with great views in one of the major CBDs. Even when I'm at the pool I can barely hear the traffic below. What about crowded malls? Do your shopping from 10am to 3pm from Mon-Thur and you have the entire mall to yourself.
I’m attracted to the beautiful cool Tanay Highlands that has excellent water source, cheaper and less traffic congestion and less crowded than Tagaytay Highland where I can grow my organic garden and raise organic free ranging chicken. Tanay has similar natural topography like the inner Northern California with its mountains, lakes, rivers and waterfalls that I tremendously enjoy where I work and live. But Tanay is closer to the beaches than the inner Northern California . Other options: Sta Fe , Nueva Vizcaya(I love Citrus fruits), Lantapan ,Bukidnon; Kapatagan , Davao and Porac Highland, Pampanga.
If you got money, you can go live anywhere. You do not have to stay in one place all the time. I plan to see the entire Philippines and live in each spot a little time to get to know it.
My choice is Tiaong, Quezon. Due to near in other provinces with beautiful tourist spots. Such as beaches in Batangas. Also, near in mountains, like Mt. Banahaw. The best thing is it about 2.5 hours drive to Manila, and it will be lessen once the TR4 ( an new expressway in the south ) open.
I've been to all those places but i like Sultan Kudarat. I like the Provincial setting. Gensan Airport is not too far away or i can also use Davao airport. Speaking of beaches, Sarangani /Glan areas have the most relaxing beaches. I retired to enjoy peace and solitude. Too many people and too much noise annoys me but i do enjoy visiting Cebu, Manila , Bagiuo , Palawan , Batangas and wherever i feel like.
Bohol is also nice! I will add it to the list.. We went there once and we loved it! Beautiful beaches, good food, nice people. The highlights were swimming with turtles in Balicasag Island and seeing dolphins on our boat ride, plus chocolate hills and tarsier! haha I couldn't stop... We will go back for sure! I'm so happy for you 🥰🙏🤩
agree, Bohol should be in the list maybe top ten…especially if you have family there. i bought house in tagaytay, have families in dumaguete and iloilo…bought a small lot in palawan, don’t know yet where will i end up…istill have 2-3 yrs to decide, nice and helpful video by the way…great job,Salee.
There are some nice places in Mindanao, but I wouldn't say Panabo City is one of them. Davao City is okay, but many people from Davao have migrated to Gensan (formerly Dadiangas) also identifies as Sarangani Province. Mindanao is Predominantly Muslim, so it isn't unusual to see a Christian chapel standing adjacent to a Mosque in most towns and small cities. Cebuano is favorably spoken all over Mindanao.
The nicest places to live or retire in the Philippines are in Nuvali Sta. Rosa , Alabang in M.Manila , Claremont near Clark Global City , LA Union , SBMA , Puerto Princesa , Iloilo city

Retired last Month. I'm less than 40 Days from at least a Six Month Visit to Cebu City [IT Park or Business Park]. Mactan International Airport is a big draw as I have friends in Indonesia & other places I want to visit in SE Asia.
One needs to have a checklist of living conditions to be met in a categorically prioritize manner. 1)access to proper medical facility 2)cost of living conditions 3)peace and order conditions For me, Cebu will certainly be on top that can qualify the above requirement.
Hello Ma’am, I appreciate and really like your video, but if your messages is to inform foreigners towards why they should choose PHP to retire, mixing English with Tagalog makes it hard to understand all that your talking about. But your video is very nice. Thank you

I was just laid off at the age of 45, I have a 9K military pension and access to Tricare and VA healthcare. With a 401k, assets, and savings, I am considering selling or renting my home and relocating abroad. What are some good passive income opportunities?
Is it time for a career shift or should I consolidate my investments into a single account? If I go for the latter, how do I do it right, and what could be the drawbacks? Plus, with a $200K property sale on the horizon, should I combine my investments or diversify them across different markets?
These are crucial questions for a financial planner. I met mine at a NYSE summit, and with her help, my wife and I reallocated our $1.7M portfolio between a traditional IRA and a brokerage account. Nice video. However it seems you are trying to target an audience that is already familiar with the country and will most likely move back to the area they are from. Still informative though.
You should make separate videos for English and Tagalog. Foreigners do not want to wade though the Tagalog. Remember we demand efficiency. Problem is there is no best place to retire in the Philippines. The Philippines is not a very desirable place to live. It may be okay for visits, not living.
The advice in this video really is supposed to put into the carbage can. Retirees have the freedom to travel around. To find a place with supposdetly the best and most complete amenities is not necessary. Instead you can cherry-pick the best of every region. And what expat retirees dont want is to be exposed to one place and exposed to heavy tax paying. A smart retiree will never spend more than 180 days in the country within the calendar year, so you avoid all taxes. ANd a smart retiree will spend time in secret places that are even more beautiful. Sorry to say that, but the video author has not even a clue about such places in the Philippines or in other parts of the Pacific region. And of course, no retiree with knowledge of such places will give them away to youtubers. So those places will stay secret for many decades to come, exept for the smart retirees.
Well some truth there but I’m full time in another North Asian island and country on the Pacific that gives me free, first -rate healthcare , no taxes on stocks and has a cost of living for me that’s 69% lower than where I come from plus interest rates are 1.7% and inflation the same. Taxes are progressive but not excessive.
