On my BMW X5 I found the passenger front inner door handle was getting sticky with this black goo. This is the door inner door handle on a BMW X5 that the material can break down and get soft, sticky, and can actually look like its melting in a hot climate!
I found a very inexpensive way to fix this issue! Ebay motors sells this inner door handle for about $14.00 and dealer cost is over $150! I will show you how easy it is to replace the inner door handle on a BMW X5 E70.

my door handle melted too (2015 X5). I thought it was grease so I put dish soap on and kept wiping and black stuff just kept coming off until I realized whatever the hell it was is just melting away.

@@AskTheCarExperts Quick update, it turns out that for my car and newer, that inner door arm cannot be removed without taking off the entire door trim panel and drilling out some clip from the back.
Instead I settled with a plastic cover that I can just lay on top of the sticky door arm & cover it completely. Will apply some glue too if it doesnt hold well.

Oh man, there is always something right! Maybe some outward pressure on the handle.

I have a problem with the top screw of this handle. It just keeps spinning in place, wont come out and wont tighten anymore like the thread would be damaged. Dont know what to do

Sorry to hear that. Try a magnet, maybe it is just stuck. Or the door panel will need removal.

Hi Tahr, can you send me the last seven of the VIN? That is an odd problem. It sounds like it could be a bad stepper motor, stepper motor calibration, or a heater box flap issue

@@AskTheCarExpertsHi guys, all ok here for the most part. Good to hear you’re doing well. Smoke has yet to hit us on the west coast but the “fun” is yet to come as the hot weather is about to start for the next few months. Our Winix air purifier is ready (Costco) as are the A/C units 👍🏼
Atta boy, Zion! Helping your dad as always 🐕

Hello, Thanks for the VIN. Nothing stand out with your vehicle options. This would have to be an issue with a stepper motor or air flap in the heater box. I feel it is less likely a heater control module failure. You would need to use a high end scan tool and try to to a stepper motor teach in procedure. Sometimes this can help fix some odd issues. If this issue is still there then the flap for that side would need to be checked in the heater box. No an easy thing to diag unfortunately.
